Vortex-Antivortex Lattice in Ultra-Cold Fermi Gases

We discuss ultra-cold Fermi gases in two dimensions, which could be realized in a strongly confining one-dimensional optical lattice. We obtain the temperature versus effective interaction phase diagram for an s-wave superfluid and show that, below a certain critical temperature T_c, spontaneous vortex-antivortex pairs appear for all coupling strengths. In addition, we show that the evolution from weak to strong coupling is smooth, and that the system forms a square vortex-antivortex lattice at a lower critical temperature T_M.Comment: Submitted to Physical Review Letter

Laurolactam as a stabilizer against the thermo-oxidative degradation of poly(ether-ester)

In this study we examined the influence of laurolactam on the thermo-oxidative degradation of a copolymer of poly(butylene terephthalate) and polybutylene glycol and of di(ethyleneglycol) dibenzoate, used as model compound. The degradation was followed by measurement of the oxygen uptake, FTIR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy and measurement of the intrinsic viscosity changes during degradation. A stabilizing effect of laurolactam on the thermo-oxidative degradation could be observed, as an induction time was defined in which hydroperoxides were not formed and molecular weight was kept constant. After this period the oxygen uptake, hydroperoxide formation and polymer conversion increased more slowly

Preparation of biodegradable materials by reactive extrusion

This work aimed to prepare biodegradable polymeric materials based on blends of a synthetic high density polyethylene (HDPE) and biodegradable polymers such as polylactic acid (PCL) and poly(caprolactone) (PLA), in a co-rotating twin-screw extruder. A polyethylene modified with maleic anhydride was used as compatibiliser. The mechanical results showed that the addition of PLA improves the blends stiffness while the addition of PCL leads to materials with a greater elongation at break and a lower Young modulus. This feature is related with the mechanical properties of each material as well as the adhesion between them. Concerning the biodegradability tests, it was found that HDPE/PCL blend presents the highest degree of biodegradability

Surveying the spirit of absolute summability on multilinear operators and homogeneous polynomials

[EN] We draw a fundamental compendium of the most valuable results of the theory of summing linear operators and detail those that are not shared by known multilinear and polynomial extensions of absolutely summing linear operators. The lack of such results in the theory of non-linear summing operators justifies the introduction of a class of polynomials and multilinear operators that satisfies at once all related non-linear results. Surprisingly enough, this class, defined by means of a summing inequality, happens to be the well known ideal of composition with a summing operator.D.
