INTRODUCTION: The information about digital examination provided by the scientific literature is quite insufficient. Therefore, digital examination of the occlusion is an object of analysis not only in Bulgaria but in other countries as well. No evidence for digital occlusal analysis on Hall-crowned teeth was found in the prosthetic part of the pediatric dentistry.AIM: The aim of this article is to conduct a study on the occlusal balance with T-scan after treatment with preformed metal crowns (PMCs) using the Hall technique.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Object of the clinical study were 50 crowned primary teeth. Unit of observation with the T-scan 8 system were occlusal articulation relationships in primary and early mixed dentition after the Hall technique.RESULTS: The results confirmed equal occlusal relationships in both sides – the crowned teeth compared with the symmetrical natural teeth. The occlusal contacts were with a similar value of the summary masticatory force compared with the control group of natural teeth.CONCLUSION: The received data confirmed that the restoration of decayed teeth with preformed metal crowns maintained the occlusal harmony in the dentition

UV-LED Disinfection in Medicine and Dentistry

In 1878, Arthur Downs and Thomas Blunt published an article describing the sterilization of bacteria exposed to light with a short wavelength of 240 to 270 nm. Ultraviolet (UV) light is a form of light that is invisible to the human eye. A unique feature of UV light is that a certain range of wavelengths, those between 200 and 300 nanometers (billionths of a meter), are categorized as bactericidal, meaning that they are able to inactivate microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. There are different disinfection systems based on UV light in the fields of manufacturing, medicine, and dentistry: open radiation lamps, single lamps for disinfection of surfaces (mainly in the food industry), lamps with reflective surfaces, disinfection cabinets, etc. In relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, the question of the need for disinfection and its effectiveness in treating coronaviruses is particularly relevant. The purpose of this article is to examine light-based disinfection, the development of technology over time, and the latest advances in technology. Today, this is of paramount importance for both fields of occupational and public health

Introduction: Edentulism, especially in the support areas, as well as pathological tooth wear (abrasion and attrition) of the hard dental tissues leads to a decrease in occlusal height and posterior translocation of the articular heads in central occlusion. Partial and complete edentulousness of patients disturbs their occlusal, phonetic function, as well as aesthetics.Aim: The aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship between the type of prosthetic treatment and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) complaints.Materials and Methods: A total of 152 patients who visited the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the Medical University of Varna and underwent prosthetic treatment were examined. The patients were evenly distributed by sex and age. They have been clinically examined and interviewed. Results: Slightly more than half of the patients underwent prosthetic treatment with partial dentures (53.9%), the rest—with complete dentures. Sex dependence was not established while, in terms of age, it was determined that the mean age was 64.5 years for patients treated with complete dentures and 57.2 years for partial dentures (p < 0.001). There was a significant difference in the type of dentures and complaints related to TMJ dysfunction (p = 0.030), finding that the likelihood of TMJ dysfunction in patients with complete dentures increased more than twice (OR = 2.124 (1.030–4.381); p < 0.05).Conclusion: The probability of TMJ dysfunction in patients with complete dentures is much higher than in those treated with partial dentures. Regardless of the type of the dentures, females are more prone to TMJ complaints

Modeling the evolution of the aerosol cloud of toxicants in the atmosphere

    Get PDF
Using the methods of mathematical modeling, the formation and evolution of aerosol clouds of toxicants in the atmosphere from the chemical industry enterprises, thermal power engineering and rocket carriers of space vehicles is analyzed. The processes of dynamic interaction of drops between themselves and a two-phase flow, processes of agglomeration, crushing and evaporation of aerosol particles are taken into account. The results of numerical calculations are presented
