Rationality, preferences and irregular war
We suppose that civilians under threat prefer certain situations within a context of irregular war and endangered survival; they will prefer those situations associated with greater probabilities of survival. Using lexicographical preferences and belief systems, we have shown that civilians will choose not to remain in situations having a lower probability of survival. Linking into social networks allows for shorter deliberation processes, lower decision costs and faster convergence towards collective decision-making. Civilian displacement thus becomes the outcome of a rational decision-making procedure.Survival
This article explains two enigmas related to the scientific career of Thomas C. Schelling, Nobel Price in Economics 2005: How to explain his capacity to always produce new ideas? Why have his multiple pioneer ideas had more impact on other social sciences and not on economics? The paper proposes three hypotheses: the minor impact of the acquired knowledge of his theoretical work, a heuristic that always privileged the relationship between unpublished facts and unusual angles, and the creation of a spontaneous knowledge network that covered different disciplines dedicated to social interaction.focal points, heuristic, theory of games, social dynamic, neural circuits
This paper shows the relevance of Popper's Rationality Principle (RP) for the appraisal of the impressive mass work emerging, in recent years, in the fields of rationality, learning, evolutionary games and behavioral economic theory. In contradistinction to the well-known rigid criteria of the falsacionist Popper, the RP covers a large and diverse spectrum of behaviors compatible with the minimal idea of ‘acting in accordance with the situation’. Its relevance to understand the formation of social conventions or how agents learn ‘to play Nash equilibrium’ is argued at length here.rationality, economic methodology, evolutionary games, social conventions, Nash equilibrium
Nash y von Neumann: mundos posibles y juegos de lenguaje
Using language game notions and the equivalence between games, this document studies John Nash’s decision of not playing the coalitional game proposed by John von Neumann. The key point is that Nash suggested hypothetical worlds that are incompatible with the kind proposed by von Neumann. And, at the root of this difference, lies their different notions of rationality.modal logic, possible worlds, rationality, language games, cooperative games, non-cooperative games
Optimal design of a photovoltaic station using Markov and energy price modelling
As the fight against anthropogenic global warming increases, photovoltaic (PV) systems, which
are a type of renewable energy, are increasingly being considered. In order to use PV systems, it
is necessary to develop methods to optimize their configuration, that is, the optimal number of PV
modules and inverters. The objectives are to examine the optimization of PVs subject to not only
the operational constraints but also the failure and repair events of PV inverters up to 100 kW,
while minimizing the effective levelized cost of energy. To achieve this, using Markov modelling,
a new energy price model that considers the current prices of the PV inverters is developed as part
of a new optimization framework. A case study considering six real PV inverters is developed to
show the effectiveness of the framework. In addition, real data from a reference PV station in
Germany is used to calculate the average hours per day that a panel generates its rated power to
consider the geographical location, temperature and number of sunny days in the given region.
Unlike previous work, local and global optimal solutions are found using PV inverters in the range
of 15 kW to 100 kW. Therefore, the new findings of this study will be considered in the future, for
example, when considering the failure and repair events of PV modules.

This article suggests that the methodological strength of what is known as the neoclassic utility theory (NCUT) comes from the relationship between the parlor games, typical of formal logic, and the seek and find games which are founded in the modal logic. Through the use of the semantic games we will establish two points: the conditions for the strategic interaction between the neoclassic player, who seeks to construct ideal utility functions, and an opponent who proposes tough counter examples, as well as semantics for the NCUT. In addition, we suggest that expansion of NCUT to other possible worlds does depend on the transformations carried out in the original model-set.neoclassical utility, semantic games, strategic interaction, parlor games
