A framework for tropical mirror symmetry
Applying tropical geometry a framework for mirror symmetry, including a
mirror construction for Calabi-Yau varieties, was proposed by the author. We
discuss the conceptual foundations of this construction based on a natural
mirror map identifying deformations and divisors. We show how the construction
specializes to that by Batyrev for hypersurfaces and its generalization by
Batyrev and Borisov to complete intersections. Based on an explicit example we
comment on the implementation in the Macaulay2 package SRdeformations.Comment: 15 pages, no figure

In Times of Crisis: Act!
It has been 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall. We are ‘celebrating’ this anniversary at a time when global capitalism and liberal democracy, the so-called winners of the Cold War struggle between East and West, find themselves
in one of the deepest economic and political crises since the Wall Street crash in 1929 and the global turmoil that followed. Perhaps more significantly, however, this is the first crisis that Eastern Europeans are experiencing since
their so-called ‘transition’ from a state socialist to a capitalist ideology. What should we make of this transition since 1989? Rather than engaging in a traditional analysis of the winners and losers of this transition, I am interested in what today’s capitalist crisis has perhaps in
common with the crisis of state socialism in 1989. I will explore this question by engaging with the German film

Remark on the studies of the muon-induced neutron background in the liquid scintillator detectors
This article gives a point of view on the studies of the muon-induced
background for the underground experiments using a liquid scintillator
detectors. The results obtained are in good agreement with the data, especially
for the neutron yield production. This is the first time, when a study of this
kind successes to get the same neutron yield as the one obtained from the
experiment.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, 1 tabl
Acquisition, Distribution and Perspectives of Healthcare Information in Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAM)
Merged with duplicate record 10026.1/2500 on 06.20.2017 by CS (TIS)From April 2001 until September 2005 1 worked as a Pilkington research fellow at the
Department of Complementary Medicine, University of Exeter, which in 2002 was
integrated as a unit of the Peninsula Medical School. All the publications presented here
have been carried out during my time of employment in this post at the Complementary
Medicine Unit of the Peninsula Medical School in Exeter, United Kingdom.
During the first few months of my research post in 2001 1 recognized the importance of
the Internet as a tool to obtain healthcare information. Under the supervision of
Professor Edzard Ernst, director of CAM, I carried out five Internet surveys, of which I
collected and summarized the data and drafted the first version of the manuscripts,
which were then finalized by Professor Ernst's comments:
* Health risks over the Internet: advice offered by'medical herbalists' to a pregnant
woman.
* Reflexologists' responses to a patient with abdominal pain -a survey on Internet
advice.
* Internet advice by acupuncturists -a risk factor for cardiovascular patients?
* Are asthma sufferers at risk when consulting chiropractors over the Internet?
* Aspects of MMR / MMR vaccination advice over the Internet
