Kelsie Blackston Artist Statement My interest in graphic design stems from the love of art and computers I had while growing up. Although I’ve always been interested in drawing and expressing my ideas through artistic means, I started college hoping to go into computer science. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I would enjoy taking a more artistic route, and that’s how I ended up here today. When I begin a project, I start by researching and sketching. Through researching, I find new styles and artists that inspire me constantly. However, there are artists that I tend to always think of when starting a new project. A couple of them are Louise Fili, for her elegant and beautiful use of typography, and Saul Bass, because of his simple, yet iconic, logo designs. As a designer, I’ve learned to be flexible to fulfill the requirements of each project. While I believe my style is flexible, I tend to be drawn to certain things. Even as I got older, I found that I was always attracted to playful and bubbly styles; things that would often be described as “cute”. This tends to come through in my work, whether it be the typeface, color palette, or style of illustration I’ve chosen to use. When designing Cosmic Threads, a space themed girl’s underwear company, I could do whatever I wanted with little limitations. This allowed me to be overly playful with my designs and have fun with my pieces. Over all, Cosmic Threads is an example of who I am as a designer, and what I want my work to continue to be.https://digitalcommons.murraystate.edu/art499/1003/thumbnail.jp

Queer Feelings, Political Potential: Tracing Affect in Performance Spaces

    Get PDF
This thesis layers theories of affect circulation, queer performance participation, counterpublics, and queer space and time with ethnographic work performed in queer performance spaces. In so doing, the thesis explores affective networks in queer performance spaces in order to begin a theoretical analysis of the connecting affects amongst queer performance participants. In my interviews, I found affective connections which I explored as keywords. These keywords express affects that, in part, create the affective networks of queer performance participants

This Comment will discuss the problems underlying California\u27s Unfair Competition Law that eventually led to the adoption of Proposition 64. It will also assess the Proposition\u27s method of addressing those problems, which arose due to the UCL\u27s broad standing provision and lack of res judicata effect. Additionally, this Comment will look at outstanding issues not remedied by the recent amendments to 17200, as well as review recent judicial decisions and evaluate their success at clarifying a law that one California Supreme Court Justice has dubbed a growth industry

By evaluating the case recommendations following a preliminary hearing from military sexual assault cases from fiscal years 2016-2018, this study aims to assess whether or not extralegal factors are influencing decisions of case recommendations of assigned convening authorities. Using secondary data from the Department of Defense’s annual reports on sexual assault in the United States military (n=5,171), this study aims to answer the following questions: Do extralegal factors contribute to convening authorities’ recommendations following Article 32 hearings? If so, what extralegal factors contribute to convening authority\u27s decision on non-judicial hearing recommendations? The results of the following analyses identified several extralegal variables that significantly impacted Article 32 case recommendations, including victim and offender characteristics, such as branch of service, pay grade, and gender. By recognizing and resolving any extralegal bias factors, the military can implement even more changes to protect the victims of such crimes. Each factor evaluated showed bias in one, some, or all case recommendations
