Total Mercury Determination in Muscle and Liver Tissue Samples from Brazilian Amazon Fish Using Slurry Sampling
This paper presents a slurry sampling method for total mercury determination by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) in tissue of fish from the Amazon. The tissue samples were lyophilized and macerated, and then the slurry samples were prepared by putting 20 mg of tissue, added to a solution containing Triton X-100, Suprapur HNO3, and zirconium nitrate directly in sampling vials of a spectrometer. Mercury standard solutions were prepared under the same conditions as the slurry samples. The slurry samples and the mercury standard solutions were sonicated for 20 s. Twenty microliters of slurry samples were injected into the graphite tube, which contained an internal wall lined with tungsten carbide. Under these conditions, it was possible to thermally stabilize the mercury up to an atomization temperature of 1700 °C. The method was validated by mercury determination in reference materials DORM-4 and DOLT-4. The LOD and LOQ were 0.014 and 0.045 mg kg−1, respectively, and recovery percentages in relation to the concentration values were certified in the order of 98%
Annatto in diets Carassius auratus goldfish fingerlings: growth performance and skin pigmentation
This study evaluated the effect of adding annatto as agent pigmentation on the staining characteristics of the skin, muscle and productive performance of Carassius auratus, reared in 0.15 m3 (dimensions 0.50 x 0.50 x 0.65 m) hapas disposed within a circular masonry tank of 25 m3.
Vitamin A is important to the proper development and functioning of the body, appearing in several metabolic functions. This experiment was conducted with aim evaluate to the vitamin A supplementation in diets for Goldfish Carassius auratus. The experimental was completely randomized with six treatments (0, 2.000, 4.000, 8.000, 16.000 and 32.000 IU of vitamin A kg(-1) diet) with four repetitions into 24 experimental cages, with capacity for 150 liters useful volume, made of mesh shading, installed inside a masonry circular tank with a capacity of 25 m(3) of water. 192 fish with an average initial weight of 6.66 +/- 0.57 g and initial length of 7.30 +/- 0.33 cm, feed at 8h, 11h, 14h and 17h at satiety were used. Evaluated the effects on productive performance and intensity of yellow-red coloring of the skin of the fish were. The Linear Response Plateau analysis of weight gain and length total, feed conversion and daily growth rate versus vitamin A requirement estimate showed 2,624, 2,385 and 2,358, 4,381 and 2,866 IU of vitamin A per kg diet, respectively. The data indicated that this vitamin has little or no influence on the intensity of the skin color of the Goldfish
Effect of ractopamine on Nile tilapia in the end of grow-out period
ABSTRACT This experiment was conducted in outdoor tanks to evaluate the effect of inclusion of ractopamine at increasing levels (0, 4, 8, 12, and 16 mg kg−1) as additive in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) diet in the final grow-out period (750-920 g) during 31 days. Therefore, 400 fish were housed into 20 experimental tanks, in a completely randomized design with five treatments and four replications. Growth performance, body yield, and chemical composition of fish muscle and organs were evaluated. Fish fed diets containing up to 16 mg kg−1 of ractopamine for 31 days did not improve growth or performance parameters. However, lipid percentage of abdominal muscle was different in fish fed ractopamine, reaching the lowest level of 199.3 g kg−1 of ether extract at 8 mg kg−1 treatment. Other body chemical composition parameters did not differ between animals treated or not treated. Feeding ractopamine up to 31 days has limited effect on body composition in Nile tilapia (~900 g), without any changes in growth parameters. This is a lower metabolic response in this species when compared with mammals and other terrestrial animals
