Design and Development of an Energy Efficient Multimedia Cloud Data Center with Minimal SLA Violation
Multimedia computing (MC) is rising as a nascent computing paradigm to process multimedia applications and provide efficient multimedia cloud services with optimal Quality of Service (QoS) to the multimedia cloud users. But, the growing popularity of MC is affecting the climate. Because multimedia cloud data centers consume an enormous amount of energy to provide services, it harms the environment due to carbon dioxide emissions. Virtual machine (VM) migration can effectively address this issue; it reduces the energy consumption of multimedia cloud data centers. Due to the reduction of Energy Consumption (EC), the Service Level Agreement violation (SLAV) may increase. An efficient VM selection plays a crucial role in maintaining the stability between EC and SLAV. This work highlights a novel VM selection policy based on identifying the Maximum value among the differences of the Sum of Squares Utilization Rate (MdSSUR) parameter to reduce the EC of multimedia cloud data centers with minimal SLAV. The proposed MdSSUR VM selection policy has been evaluated using real workload traces in CloudSim. The simulation result of the proposed MdSSUR VM selection policy demonstrates the rate of improvements of the EC, the number of VM migrations, and the SLAV by 28.37%, 89.47%, and 79.14%, respectively
Minimization of Handoff Failure Probability for Next-Generation Wireless Systems
During the past few years, advances in mobile communication theory have
enabled the development and deployment of different wireless technologies,
complementary to each other. Hence, their integration can realize a unified
wireless system that has the best features of the individual networks.
Next-Generation Wireless Systems (NGWS) integrate different wireless systems,
each of which is optimized for some specific services and coverage area to
provide ubiquitous communications to the mobile users. In this paper, we
propose to enhance the handoff performance of mobile IP in wireless IP networks
by reducing the false handoff probability in the NGWS handoff management
protocol. Based on the information of false handoff probability, we analyze its
effect on mobile speed and handoff signaling delay.Comment: 16 Page
A Goal Driven Framework for Service Discovery in Service-Oriented Architecture: A Multiagent Based Approach
Automated service discovery is one of the very important features in any Semantic Web Service (SWS) based framework. Achieving this functionality in e-resource sharing system is not an easy task due to its hugeness and heterogeneity among the available resources. Any efficient automated service discovery will remain worthless until discovered services fulfill the required goal(s) demanded by the user or the client program. In this paper we have proposed a goal driven approach towards an automated service discovery using Agent Swarm in an innovative way .A novel multi agent based architecture has been introduced here for service discovery. Communications among the agent in service-oriented framework for the said purpose has also been illustrated here. Finally, the pictorial view of the running agent in the system is shown
A study on oxidized-LDL cholesterol in normolipidemic retinal vein occlusion
Background: Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) has been implicated in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Arteriolosclerosis is an important causative factor for retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Till, date there is dearth of literature on ox-LDL and RVO.
Aims and Objectives: The objectives of this study were to see whether ox-LDL cholesterol is an independent risk factor in RVO with normal lipid profile.
Materials and Methods: Lipid profiles and ox-LDL levels were assayed in 122 adult unilateral RVO cases and 142 age and sex matched controls in this 1 year old case–control study.
Results: ox-LDL cholesterol levels were significantly elevated in RVO cases than controls (54.5±6.1 in cases vs. 36.6±5.6 in controls, P<0.01), although serum lipid profiles were normal in both cases and controls.
Conclusion: The ox-LDL-induced atherosclerosis may be responsible for the retinal venous occlusion in absence of other risk factors. Hence, screening for ox-LDL in RVO patients should be worth considering especially in patients with normal lipid profiles
A study to determine the prevalence of oxidised low-density lipoprotein in retinal venous occlusion in a population of West Bengal
Background: Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) has been implicated in both coronary artery disease and retinal vein occlusion (RVO) because of atherosclerosis. However, there is no study to show the prevalence of ox-LDL in RVO till date.
Aims and Objectives: This study aimed to find the prevalence of ox-LDL in RVO in a population of West Bengal.
Materials and Methods: A 2-year prospective cross-sectional study of consecutive, unrelated adult patients, with a diagnosis of RVO, attending the outpatient department in a Medical College, was taken up for study. A pilot study was done to determine the expected prevalence of ox-LDL. Sample size was calculated based on the formula n=d2z2pq(z=1.96, d=0.04, p=0.196, q=0.804, n=minimum sample size). ox-LDL was measured in a total of 512 subjects who were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
Results: In this study, 272 males (aged 50 ± 7.2 years) and 240 females (aged 46 ± 7.7 years) with RVO were screened for ox-LDL. Elevated ox-LDL levels were found in 142 patients out of 512 participants in this study (27.7%). Moreover, 102 cases (19.9%) were found to have both raised LDL and ox-LDL, whereas 40 RVO cases (7.8%) had only elevated ox-LDL among the study participants. 71.8% of 142 RVO cases with elevated ox-LDL levels also had raised LDL levels, whereas remaining 28.2% had normal LDL cholesterol levels.
Conclusion: It is high time to look beyond the traditional lipid parameters such as ox-LDL cholesterol levels as a risk factor of RVO. This study proved that ox-LDL cholesterol is highly prevalent in RVO cases. Thereby, proper screening of ox-LDL is a must as a tool for risk reduction of RVO cases, especially in a population with normal LDL cholesterol levels
Design, synthesis, and evaluation of 1,4-benzothiazine-3-one containing bisamide derivatives as dual inhibitors of Staphylococcus aureus with plausible application in a urinary catheter
In this study, 1,4-benzothiazine-based bisamide derivatives, a new class of antibacterial agents targeting bacterial peptide deformylase (PDF), were designed and synthesized to combat Staphylococcus aureus infection. Molecular modeling of the designed molecules showed better docking scores compared to the natural product actinonin. Bioactivity assessment identified two derivatives with promising antibacterial activity in vitro. The stability of the most active molecule, 8bE, was assessed using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. Significantly, compound 8bE could also inhibit the S. aureus biofilm at low concentrations. Furthermore, the capability of the synthesized molecule to inhibit S. aureus biofilm formation on medical devices like urinary catheters is also demonstrated

Design and implementation of an improved datacenter broker policy to improve the QoS of a cloud
Cloud Computing offers various remotely accessible services to users either free or on payment. A major issue with Cloud Service Providers (CSP) is to maintain Quality of Service (QoS). The QoS encompasses different parame-ters, like, smart job allocation strategy, efficient load balancing, response time optimization, reduction in wastage of bandwidth, accountability of the overall system, best Virtual Machine (VM) (which reduce the overall execu-tion time of the requested Cloudlets) selection etc. The Datacenter Broker (DCB) policy helps binding a Cloudlet with a VM. An efficient DCB policy reduces the overall execution time of a Cloudlet. Allocating cloudlets properly to the appropriate VMs in a Datacenter makes a system active, alive and balanced. In present study, we proposed a conductance algorithm for effective allocation of Cloudlets to the VMs in a Datacenter by taking into consideration of power and capacity of VMs, and length of Cloudlets. Experimental results obtained using CloudSim toolkit under heavy loads, establishes performance supremacy of our proposed algorithm over existing DCB algorithm
