Performance Analysis of NFS Protocol Usage on VMware ESXi Datastore

Hypervisor virtualization that uses bare metal architecture allows to allocate and provide resources for each created virtual machines. Resources such as: CPU and memory, can be added or upgraded anytime to the host hardware (virtualization server) to be able to create more virtual machines. However, upgrading the hard drive size cannot be done anytime if there are already have data or virtual machine that has fully operated on the host hardware, related to the raid system and the establishment of hard drive partition.Upgrading hard drive size on virtualization server can be done by using NFS protocol on NAS server. VSphere ESXi able to use NFS protocol and store the virtual disk that is used by virtual machine as guest operating system on network storage besides using local hard drive (host hardware hard drive). When the virtual machine want to run the guest operating system, it will request to write/read virtual disk there is stored on NAS by using NFS protocol through the network. In this research, measurements has been taken on data communication performance due the USAge of NFS as virtual machine's datastore in addition to local hard drive USAge on server's device. Measurements were performed by sending various data size from client to server (virtual machine) and measure write/read speed on server's cache memory and hard drive, and measure RTT (Round-trip Time) delay between client-server. The testing has been conducted on virtual machines that use local drive and NFS as virtual disk datastore

Instrumentation for Measurement of Gas Permeability of Polymeric Membranes

    Get PDF
A mass spectrometric 'Dynamic Delta' method for the measurement of gas permeability of polymeric membranes has been developed. The method is universally applicable for measurement of the permeability of any gas through polymeric membrane materials. The usual large sample size of more than 100 square centimeters required for other methods is not necessary for this new method which requires a size less than one square centimeter. The new method should fulfill requirements and find applicability for industrial materials such as food packaging, contact lenses and other commercial materials where gas permeability or permselectivity properties are important

Risk of critical illness among patients with solid cancers: a population-based observational study of 118,541 adults

Importance: Critical illness may be a potential determinant of cancer outcomes and geographic variations, but its role has not been described before. Objective: To determine the incidence of admission to intensive care units (ICUs) within 2 years following cancer diagnosis. Design, Setting, and Participants: This was a retrospective observational study using cancer registry data in 4 datasets from 2000 to 2009 with linked ICU admission data from 2000 to 2011, in the West of Scotland region of the United Kingdom (population, 2.4 million; all 16 ICUs within the region). All 118 541 patients (≥16 years) diagnosed as having solid (nonhematological) cancers. Their median age was 69 years, and 52.0% were women. Main Outcomes and Measures: Demographic and clinical variables associated with admission to an ICU and death in an ICU. Results: A total of 118 541 patients met the study criteria. Overall, 6116 patients (5.2% [95% CI, 5.0%-5.3%]) developed a critical illness and were admitted to an ICU within 2 years. Risk of critical illness was highest at ages 60 to 69 years and higher in men. The cumulative incidence of critical illness was greatest for small intestinal (17.2% [95% CI, 13.3%-21.8%]) and colorectal cancers (16.5% [95% CI, 15.9%-17.1%]). The risk following breast cancer was low (0.8% [95% CI, 0.7%-1.0%]). The percentage who died in ICUs was 14.1% (95% CI, 13.3%-15.0%), and during the hospital stay, 24.6% (95% CI, 23.5%-25.7%). Mortality was greatest among emergency medical admissions and lowest among elective surgical patients. The risk of critical illness did not vary by socioeconomic circumstances, but mortality was higher among patients from deprived areas. Conclusions and Relevance: In this study, about 1 in 20 patients experienced a critical illness resulting in ICU admission within 2 years of cancer diagnosis. The associated high mortality rate may make a significant contribution to overall cancer outcomes

Markets Need Predictable Government Actions to Function Effectively: The Case of Importing Maize in Times of Deficit

    Get PDF
Food relief for vulnerable groups is important in times of deficit. For the remainder of the population, well functioning grain markets can save lives during times of food shortfalls. This note illustrates how predictable Government behavior in the market can improve markets’ ability to meet the needs of consumers.food security, food policy, Zambia, maize, Agricultural and Food Policy, Marketing, Q18,

An investigation of microstructural characteristics of contact-lens polymers

    Get PDF
The free volume and gas permeability in several contact lens specimens were measured as part of a Space Commercialization Program. Free volume was measured using positron lifetime spectroscopy, while permeability for O2, N2, CO2 gases was measured using mass spectrometry and polarography. Permeability for all gases increases with the mean free volume cell size in the test samples. As might be expected, the specimens with the highest free volume fraction also exhibit the lowest Rockwell Hardness Number. An interesting corollary is the finding that the presence of fluorine atoms in the lens chemical structure inhibits filling up of their free volume cells. This is expected to allow the lenses to breathe freely while in actual use

This research describes educational cooperation Indonesia - Australia case study:sister school SMPN1 tasikmalaya with glenunga International High School in 2012.Indonesia is a nation that has a fundamental problem in education. Then, efforts to improvethe quality of education is not negotiable in order to improve the quality of human resourcesin Indonesia. To solve the problems, Indonesia has the initiative to cooperate with the State, one of which Australia. The research method used is a descriptive of qualitative research method about thefacts. This research is an explanatory that describe about problem, indication, policies, cooperation. In writing techniques, the authors collect and collate data through libraryresearch from several sources like books, journals, articles, websites, the media and others. The authors also use the concept of national interest in view the case in this study. The direct impact is the increased economic value of the activity of educationalservices in both countries. Indirect impacts are from increased trading activities in bothcountries Australia is working closely with its partners in developing countries to support thedevelopment priorities of each country. Australian Government aid to Indonesian students tothe bilateral relationship between Australia and Indonesia can provide benefits in thepolitical, security, socio-cultural and economic. Keywords: Education, Problem, Country, Impac

The Role of Mugaiwa in Promoting Household Food Security: Why It Matters Who Gets Access to Government Maize Imports

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of mugaiwa, and the small-scale trading and milling sector that provides it, in ensuring poor consumers’ access to food in the context of this marketing season’s maize deficit. The paper then identifies opportunities for Government and the private sector to increase access to affordable food among consumers.food security, food policy, Zambia, mugaiwa, Agribusiness, Q18,
