The Relationship Between Wages and Productivity: TAR Unit Root and TAR Cointegration Approach

    Get PDF
We analyzed the relationship between wages and productivity in 1990 - 2007 period in Turkey. At the first stage we followed the traditional unit root tests and apply the analysis followed by unit root test procedure proposed by Caner and Hansen (2001). Then we discussed the long run nonlinear relationship between wages and productivity by employing the TAR cointegration analysis developed by Hansen and Seo (2002).wage, productivity, non linear, TAR unit root, TAR cointegration

Defense, Economic Growth and Energy Consumption in China

AbstractThis paper aimed to test the dynamic relationship between economic growth, energy consumption and defence expenditure in China for the period 1987–2013. It was used to the bounds test approach to cointegration developed by Pesaran et al. (2001) and it was determined whether there was a short and a long-run relationship among defence expenditure, energy consumption and economic growth. It was found that defence and energy consumption has a positive and a statistically significant impact on economic growth of China. Further, it was applied the Granger causality and it was determined a positive and a significant causal relation between variables

U.S. Housing Relief During COVID: Successes and Failures - and What Policymakers Can Do

    Get PDF
Housing insecurity has increased drastically since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic last year. Millions have lost their incomes, forcing people to fall behind on rent. At this point, there is a federal eviction moratorium and many states and cities have their own eviction moratoriums aimed at stopping evictions during these critical months as the United States is combating the highest amount of cases and deaths across the nation. Özaksoy, Fulya (Dogus Author)In this study, determinants of the relation between woody biomass energy consumption and economic growth were discussed. The relationship was examined by Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model for selected Sub-Saharan African countries such as Angola, Benin, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Seychelles and South Africa for the period of 1980-2013. According to empirical results, there is unidirectional causality from woody biomass energy consumption to economic growth for Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Niger; from economic growth to woody biomass energy consumption for Seychelles. The bidirectional relationship is supported for Benin, Mauritania, Nigeria and South Africa. The results of this paper demonstrate that structural changes should be implemented in renewable energy policies of the selected countries

Non-linear analysis of Post Keynesian Phillips curve in Canada labor market

Özaksoy, Fulya (Dogus Author)This paper aims to analyze Post-Keynesian Phillips Curve by using non-linear ARDL approach and non-linear Granger causality method for the period from 1957 to 2015 in Canada. This study is differed from other empirical paper by using non-linear ARDL method which determined there is long-run asymmetric relationship between the selected macroeconomic variables for Canada. Canada exhibits bi-directional causality relationship between inflation-unemployment, unemployment-economic growth and inflation-economic growth which refers that the country has flexible labor market

Mjerenje efikasnosti filtara i primjena NNSFDI metode

The study aims to propose the neural network filter based on NNSFDI method as an alternative filter vis-a-vis to frequently applied filters in economics; namely, Baxter-King, Hodrick-Prescott, Christiano and Fitzgerald and Kalman filters. In this paper, it was used two different data which consist of the annual unemployment rates for 1923 - 2008 periods and the monthly inflation rates for 1964:02 - 2009:07 periods. The performance of the new method proposed and the main stream filters were, in particular, evaluated based on the annual and monthly data. The empirical findings suggest that the newly proposed NNFSDI model provided better forecast results compared to Kalman, HP, BK and CF filters for different data sets when evaluated in the light of different error criteria such as MSE, RMSE and MAPE.Cilj rada je prezentirati filtar neuralne mreže zasnovan na NNSFDI metodi kao alternativni filtar u odnosu na često korištene filtre u ekonomiji: naime, Baxter-King, Hodrick-Prescott, Christiano i Fitzgerald i Kalman filtre.
