    Quality of Life after Stapled Hemorrhoidopexy: A Prospective Observational Study

    Objective. The objective of the study was to assess the change in quality of life (QOL) of patients undergoing stapled hemorrhoidopexy (SH) using WHO Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire. Methods. The study sample comprised patients with symptomatic II, III, and IV degree hemorrhoids, undergoing SH. The patients were asked to complete WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire before and one month following the surgery. Result. There were 20 patients in the study group. The postoperative pain score measured by visual analogue scale at six hours postoperatively was at 24 hours. The items in the WHOQOL-BREF had high-internal consistency or reliability as shown by high Cronbach's alpha coefficient which was 0.82 and 0.90 for pre- and postoperative questionnaires. There was significant improvement in the overall perception of QOL and health, and in physical and psychological domains. There was modest improvement in environmental domain, while no change was noted in social domain. Conclusion. SH improved the quality of life of patients treated for hemorrhoids

    Introduction: Palliative medicine is one of the developing medical specialities. This study was undertaken to enquire about the level of awareness regarding various aspects of palliative care among general practitioners of city of Bhopal. Material and method: This study was undertaken with the help predesigned questionnaire among the general practioners enquiring them about various aspects of Palliative medicine. Results: The opinion about diseases requiring palliative care varied to large extent. Majority of subject reported pain control as the main objective of palliative care. There were varied response to various other aspects of palliative care but majority had considered it important. Discussion: Palliative care is an important aspect of comprehensive care which needs to be given to terminally ill patients. Awareness regarding same variable even among doctors and improved awareness through various means is essential to improve quality of life of patients and their families facing the problems associated with life-threatening illness

    Assessing the pattern of usage of smartphone in clinical practice among clinicians of city of Bhopal

    Introduction: Smartphone have become essential part of our lifestyle and hold a promise to be used for variety of purposes. Its widespread availability and popularity has grown its usage in general population in various fields other than just in telecommunication alone. The usage of Smartphone among clinicians is also very common. We tried to study the current pattern of usage of Smartphone in clinical practice among clinicians in Bhopal city. Material and method: We had done survey among around 200 clinicians of Bhopal city using a predesigned semi structured questionnaire. Results: Smartphone usage among practicing doctors was very high. The opinion of majority of clinicians was that it is useful in clinical practice and hold potential of becoming important tool in clinical practice. Discussion: Smartphone hold potential to serve many needs of clinicians and may be an essential tool for future clinical practice. It is also associated with some limitations and hazards which might be reduced with adequate precautions
