An Improved Observation Model for Super-Resolution under Affine Motion
Super-resolution (SR) techniques make use of subpixel shifts between frames
in an image sequence to yield higher-resolution images. We propose an original
observation model devoted to the case of non isometric inter-frame motion as
required, for instance, in the context of airborne imaging sensors. First, we
describe how the main observation models used in the SR literature deal with
motion, and we explain why they are not suited for non isometric motion. Then,
we propose an extension of the observation model by Elad and Feuer adapted to
affine motion. This model is based on a decomposition of affine transforms into
successive shear transforms, each one efficiently implemented by row-by-row or
column-by-column 1-D affine transforms.
We demonstrate on synthetic and real sequences that our observation model
incorporated in a SR reconstruction technique leads to better results in the
case of variable scale motions and it provides equivalent results in the case
of isometric motions
Calibration problems in astronomical radio-interferometry
Aperture synthesis techniques are now commonly used in radio-astronomy to
obtain high resolution maps of radio-sources . Such a precision requires a careful
calibration of several kind of measurement errors. In this report, we shortly
describe the major perturbating effects encountered in the aperture synthesis
procedure, in order to be able to present in a second paper (in this issue) the
calibration techniques that radio-astronomers use nowadays, and the contribution
of the GDR TdSI in the field.
3D density reconstruction of a screeching supersonic jet by synchronized multi-camera Background Oriented Schlieren
International audienceThis work describes the application of 3D Background Oriented Schlieren (3DBOS) to the experimental analysis of the mean and instantaneous 3D structures of supersonic under-expanded screeching jets. These jets feature various dynamical states as the jet nozzle pressure ratio (NPR) is varied. Hence, six flow conditions were considered using acoustic measurements and 3D density reconstructions. Relying on the latter and on Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) to isolate the main flow features, clear visualizations of the instantaneous 3D state and the reconstructed average dynamics of modes A1 and C, that are respectively axisymmetric and helical, were obtained
Learning fluid trajectory models for time-resolved PIV
International audienceWe present a new multiframe cross-correlation (Lucas-Kanade based) algorithm for time-resolved PIV. This algorithm leverages time coherence in image sequences by decomposing the temporal dependency of motion on an arbitrarily chosen trajectory basis. We propose to learn this basis from the data by performing a Principal Component Analysis on trajectories sampled from the studied sequence. We show on simulated data that such an approach can outperform the polynomial models classically used in multiframe PIV
Sense of agency in joint action: a critical review of we-agency
The sense of agency refers to the experience of control over voluntary actions and their effects. There is growing interest in the notion of we-agency, whereby individual sense of agency is supplanted by a collective agentic experience. The existence of this unique agentic state would have profound implications for human responsibility, and, as such, warrants further scrutiny. In this paper, we review the concept of we-agency and examine whether evidence supports it. We argue that this concept entails multiplying hypothetical agentic states associated with joint action, thus ending up with an entangled phenomenology that appears somewhat speculative when weighted against the available evidence. In light of this, we suggest that the concept of we-agency should be abandoned in favour of a more parsimonious framework for the sense of agency in joint action
