Predicting needlestick and sharps injuries in nursing students: Development of the SNNIP scale
Aim: To develop an instrument to investigate knowledge and predictive factors of needlestick and sharps injuries (NSIs) in nursing students during clinical placements. Design: Instrument development and cross-sectional study for psychometric testing. Methods: A self-administered instrument including demographic data, injury epidemiology and predictive factors of NSIs was developed between October 2018âJanuary 2019. Content validity was assessed by a panel of experts. The instrument's factor structure and discriminant validity were explored using principal components analysis. The STROBE guidelines were followed. Results: Evidence of content validity was found (S-CVI 0.75; I-CVI 0.50â1.00). A three-factor structure was shown by exploratory factor analysis. Of the 238 participants, 39% had been injured at least once, of which 67.3% in the second year. Higher perceptions of âpersonal exposureâ (4.06, SD 3.78) were reported by third-year students. Higher scores for âperceived benefitsâ of preventive behaviours (13.6, SD 1.46) were reported by second-year students

Metal ion complexation in organometallic crown ethers - Structural and rate effects on the migratory insertion of carbon monoxide in indenyl and cyclopentadienyl iron (II) complexes
The iron complexes [Fe(eta(5)-ligand)(CO)(2)R][ligand = C5H5 (Cp), R = Me (1); ligand = C5H5, R = CHMe2 (2); ligand = C9H7 (Ind) R=Me (3)] react with the crown ether functionalized phosphine [Ph2P-CH2-(aza-15-crown-5)] (L) to give the products of alkyl migratory insertion [Fe(eta(5)-ligand)(COR)(CO)(L)] 4, 5 and 6, respectively. The cyclopentadienyl methyl complex [Fe(eta(5)-C5H5)(Co)(2)Me] reacts with L only in refluxing hexane. The reactions of 2 and 3, in acetonitrile or chloroform, have been followed by FT-IR spectroscopy, or by UV-Vis. The presence of sodium or calcium salts, NaI, NaPF6, or CaI2, does not affect the reactivity of the cyclopentadienyl complex 2, whereas it increases two to three times the rate of reaction of the indenyl complex 3. The acetyl complexes [Fe(eta(5)-ligand)(CoMe)(CO)(L)], (ligand = Cp, 4; ligand = Ind, 6) exhibit a shift of the stretching band v(COMe) to lower frequencies, in the presence of metal salts, up to 40 cm(-1) in the case of 6 . NaPF6 in chloroform, and up to 46 cm(-1) in the case 6 . KPF6 in dichloromethane, as a result of coordination of the carbonyl oxygen to the crown ether held cation. This shift is absent or small in the more polar solvents tetrahydrofuran, acetonitrile, or dioxane, and it is not observed for the isopropyl complex 5, suggesting that steric hindrance of the alkyl group prevents acyl coordination to the metal ion. The terminal carbonyl group of complexes 4, 5 and 6 displays a shift of the v(CO) band to higher frequencies in most solvents, up to 27 cm(-1) for 6 . NaPF6 in acetonitrile and to 26 cm(-1) for 6 . LiClO4 in dichloromethane, arising from electronic polarization by the metal ion and indicating electronic communication between the two metal centres. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A
Effects of industrial processing on the distributions of deoxynivalenol, cadmium and lead in durum wheat milling fractions
The aim of this work was to investigate the distributions of deoxynivalenol, cadmium and lead in durum wheat milling fractions from industrial milling plants. The study focused on two milling technologies: conventional milling and debranning before milling. Initial analyses of samples of all raw materials showed contamination levels considerably lower than the limits imposed by the European Commission. Deoxynivalenol, cadmium and lead showed rather similar patterns of distribution. Semolina had lower, although not significant levels of these undesirable substances than unprocessed wheat grain; in contrast, marked concentration factors were found for the contaminants in shorts (middlings) and flour shorts. Debranning technology resulted in higher contamination levels in products intended for animal feed than conventional milling. The difference was statistically significant for deoxynivalenol and lead contamination of the shorts (middlings) fraction. As the outer parts of the kernel are generally considered richer in inorganic elements and moulds, Pearson's correlation was performed to investigate the relationship between the crude fibre contents of the different fractions, adopted as bran marker, and contaminant levels. Positive correlations were found for each of the three contaminants, although the correlation coefficients were not very high, demonstrating that crude fibre likely does not constitute a good marker for describing contaminants repartitioning in milling fractions when the levels of these substances are low
The editorial series âEnigmatic Architectureâ is interested in identifying and unveil aspects of
communication and functional performance â second and first functions â not entirely apparent in those
works of architecture in which they coexist in an indissoluble way, not only in the final result but also in the
creative itinerary that led to the act of their creation.
The method is the one of hypothesis-thesis, which can be corroborated or not, and that in presence of
doubt is considered worthy of sharing and discussion.
There is no interest here in making flattering praises nor slating of the analized work, but to assume that
the selected piece of architecture is like a patient who, willingly, lends to a medical consultation and/or to
an intervention on the surgical table.
But this metaphor can be extended to other disciplines, first of all psychology, as we are interested to
understand as much as possible which are the tensions in the creative universe of the designers who
conceived the work.
The wellspring of the project, i.e. the covey of primitive ideas, are here investigated by open hypotheses,
non-opinionated, with Calvinian â but sometimes also Kunderian â lightness, a quality that never excludes
the cross-examination.
As well as in the âSunflowerâ, also in Eurosky the lightness, as above intended, is an architectural quality
that aims at being recognized and that struggles for this purpose: in the first case it cuts â in a period coeval
to Fontana â the solid rocky-mass of the volume of the palazzina in viale Bruno Buozzi in Rome and
anticipates the Fellinean âDolce Vitaâ; in the second case it gives rise to a colossal trilith of a Stonehenge
in the E.U.R. district on whose roof sprout the fragile wings of its opposite: the pages of a book of which this
dolmen becomes an immense pulpit

2-Arylpropionic CXC chemokine receptor 1 (CXCR1) ligands as novel noncompetitive CXCL8 inhibitors
The CXC chemokine CXCL8/IL-8 plays a major role in the activation and recruitment of polymorphonuclear (PMN) cells at inflammatory sites. CXCL8 activates PMNs by binding the seven-transmembrane (7-TM) G-protein-coupled receptors CXC chemokine receptor 1 (CXCR1) and CXC chemokine receptor 2 (CXCR2). (R)-Ketoprofen (1) was previously reported to be a potent and specific noncompetitive inhibitor of CXCL8-induced human PMNS chemotaxis. We report here molecular modeling studies showing a putative interaction site of 1 in the TM region of CXCR1. The binding model was confirmed by alanine scanning mutagenesis and photoaffinity labeling experiments. The molecular model driven medicinal chemistry optimization of 1 led to a new class of potent and specific inhibitors of CXCL8 biological activity. Among these, repertaxin (13) was selected as a clinical candidate drug for prevention of post-ischemia reperfusion injury
Gastrointestinal motility disorder assessment in systemic sclerosis
SSc is a clinically heterogeneous and generalized disease, characterized by thickness of the connective tissue of the skin and internal organs, such as the digestive tract, impairing gastrointestinal (GI) motility. Our aim is to evaluate retrospectively abnormalities of oesophageal motility, gastric emptying, oro-cecal transit time (OCTT) and small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) in a large cohort of SSc patients
