Bosons Doubling
It is shown that next-nearest-neighbor interactions may lead to unusual
paramagnetic or ferromagnetic phases which physical content is radically
different from the standard phases. Actually there are several particles
described by the same quantum field in a manner similar to the species doubling
of the lattice fermions. We prove the renormalizability of the theory at the

Noncommutative Quantum Mechanics Viewed from Feynman Formalism
Dyson published in 1990 a proof due to Feynman of the Maxwell equations. This
proof is based on the assumption of simple commutation relations between
position and velocity. We first study a nonrelativistic particle using Feynman
formalism. We show that Poincar\'{e}'s magnetic angular momentum and Dirac
magnetic monopole are the direct consequences of the structure of the sO(3) Lie
algebra in Feynman formalism. Then we show how to extend this formalism to the
dual momentum space with the aim of introducing Noncommutative Quantum
Mechanics which was recently the subject of a wide range of works from particle

Brane Resolution Through Fibration
We consider p-branes with one or more circular directions fibered over the
transverse space. The fibration, in conjunction with the transverse space
having a blown-up cycle, enables these p-brane solutions to be completely
regular. Some such circularly-wrapped D3-brane solutions describe flows from
SU(N)^3 N=2 theory, F_0 theory, as well as an infinite family of superconformal
quiver gauge theories, down to three-dimensional field theories. We discuss the
operators that are turned on away from the UV fixed points. Similarly, there
are wrapped M2-brane solutions which describe smooth flows from known
three-dimensional supersymmetric Chern-Simons matter theories, such as ABJM
theory. We also consider p-brane solutions on gravitational instantons, and
discuss various ways in which U-duality can be applied to yield other

Evaluating a positive parenting curriculum package: An analysis of the acquisition of key skills.
With the increase in survival for children with cancer, part of the focus of current research is aimed towards evaluating how these children are adapting psychosocially. Neurocognitive deficits have been well established. However, there are multiple facets encompassing quality of life, including general mental health, lifestyles and health behaviors, and academic and cognitive functioning. The relationship between neurocognitive and psychosocial functioning has yet to be thoroughly evaluated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between neurocognitive and psychosocial functioning in survivors of brain tumors and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Data was collected from existing archival database comprised of patients of the at Cook Children's Medical Center in Texas. The sample consisted of 177 patients between the ages of 3 and 12 who were at least two years post-diagnosis. Measures used included the NEPSY and the Behavioral Assessment for Children. Statistical analyses included a several one-way analysis of variances, an independent samples t-test, a univariate analysis of variance, a hierarchical multiple regression, and odds ratio analyses. Results indicated survivors treated with neurosurgery alone appear to be less at risk for developing behavior problems than other treatment modalities. Also, brain tumor survivors demonstrate more problematic behaviors than survivors of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Visuospatial functioning, diagnosis, and type of treatment were found to be predictive variables of behavior problems. Attention, and perhaps language, deficits may predispose children to more problems in their behavior. It is concluded that there are other factors affecting behavior in this population that were not accounted for in this analysis. It is recommended for future studies to research the individual clinical scales of the Behavior Assessment System for Children, obtain information from multiple informants, study this relationship longitudinally, and research additional factors that may be influencing the relationship between neurocognitive and psychosocial functioning. This provides evidence of risk factors that should be monitored as the child returns home and to school
Berry Curvature in Graphene: A New Approach
In the present paper we have directly computed the Berry curvature terms
relevant for Graphene in the presence of an \textit{inhomogeneous} lattice
distortion. We have employed the generalized Foldy Wouthuysen framework,
developed by some of us \cite{ber0,ber1,ber2}. We show that a non-constant
lattice distortion leads to a valley-orbit coupling which is responsible to a
valley-Hall effect. This is similar to the valley-Hall effect induced by an
electric field proposed in \cite{niu2} and is the analogue of the spin-Hall
effect in semiconductors \cite{MURAKAMI, SINOVA}. Our general expressions for
Berry curvature, for the special case of homogeneous distortion, reduce to the
previously obtained results \cite{niu2}. We also discuss the Berry phase in the

Isospectrality in Chaotic Billiards
We consider a modification of isospectral cavities whereby the classical
dynamics changes from pseudointegrable to chaotic. We construct an example
where we can prove that isospectrality is retained. We then demonstrate this

The persistence of a chlorophyll spectral biosignature from Martian evaporite and spring analogues under Mars-like conditions
Spring and evaporite deposits are considered two of the most promising environments for past habitability on Mars and preservation of biosignatures. Manitoba, Canada hosts the East German Creek (EGC) hypersaline spring complex, and the post impact evaporite gypsum beds of the Lake St. Martin (LSM) impact. The EGC complex has microbial mats, sediments, algae and biofabrics, while endolithic communities are ubiquitous in the LSM gypsum beds. These communities are spectrally detectable based largely on the presence of a chlorophyll absorption band at 670 nm; however, the robustness of this feature under Martian surface conditions was unclear. Biological and biology-bearing samples from EGC and LSM were exposed to conditions similar to the surface of present day Mars (high UV flux, 100 mbar, anoxic, CO_2 rich) for up to 44 days, and preservation of the 670 nm chlorophyll feature and chlorophyll red-edge was observed. A decrease in band depth of the 670 nm band ranging from ∼16 to 80% resulted, with correlations seen in the degree of preservation and the spatial proximity of samples to the spring mound and mineral shielding effects. The spectra were deconvolved to Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Pancam and Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) Mastcam science filter bandpasses to investigate the detectability of the 670 nm feature and to compare with common mineral features. The red-edge and 670 nm feature associated with chlorophyll can be distinguished from the spectra of minerals with features below ∼1000 nm, such as hematite and jarosite. However, distinguishing goethite from samples with the chlorophyll feature is more problematic, and quantitative interpretation using band depth data makes little distinction between iron oxyhydroxides and the 670 nm chlorophyll feature. The chlorophyll spectral feature is observable in both Pancam and Mastcam, and we propose that of the proposed EXOMARS Pancam filters, the PHYLL filter is best suited for its detection
