New host plant of Leptoglossus zonatus (Dallas) (Heteroptera: Coreidae)
The coreid bug Leptoglossus zonatus (Dallas) is an important pest that can feed on several economically important plants such as corn, soybean, sorghum, cotton, among others. In Campinas, São Paulo state, Brazil, nymphs and adults of L. zonatus have been found mainly on corn Zea mays L. In field work carried out during the month of May, at the end of the vegetative cycle of corn, adults and nymphs of L. zonatus were observed feeding on Spathodea campanulata Beauv (Bignoniaceae), a tree of African origin widely used in urban green belts, parks and street in Brazilian cities.It is possible that L. zonatus can use the plant S. campanulata as an alternative food resource during the periods when corn is not present or is not at the right vegetative stages.75375
Estudos biologicos e patologicos de dois piralideos pragas de produtos armazenados

HabibTese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de BiologiaResumo: O presente trabalho teve por objetivo estudos biológicos e patológicos de duas espécies de lepidópteros da família Pyralidae, pragas de produtos agrícolas armazenados. A biologia de Anagasta kuhniella (Zeller. 1879) e Plodia interpunctella (Hubner, 1813) foi estudada sob condições de 25 '+ ou '2 GRAUS'C, 70 '+ ou -' 10% U.R e 12 horas de fotofase. As larvas da primeira espécies foram alimentadas com dieta composta por farinha de trigo (80%) e farelo de trigo (20%), enquanto que as da segunda receberam a dieta CENA P-1. Para os estudos de patologia foram realizados esperimentos com Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner var. kurstaki (sorotipo H-3a:3b) em três formulações comerciais (Dipel , Bactospeine e Thuricide) e o isolado Zoocamp -78. Dados referentes ao tempo de duração e mortalidade natural de cada uma das fases evolutivas de cada espécie, assim como o peso médio dos indivíduos, capacidade reprodutiva e a razão sexual foram determinados. Através de parâmetros biológicos convencionais, tanto a dieta oferecida para larvas, como as condições de criação mostraram-se totalmente favoráveis à manutenção das criações dos dois piralídeos. O ciclo total de vida dos indivíduos não acasalados das duas espécies foi mais prolongado do que o dos indivíduos acasalados...Observação: O resumo, na íntegra, poderá ser visualizado no texto completo da tese digitalAbstract: During the present work, biological aspects and pathological approaches were investigated among two pyralid species. The biology of Anagasta kuhniella as well as that of Plodia interpuncella was studied under constant laboratory conditions of 25 '+ ou '2 GRAUS'C, 70 '+ ou -'10% and 12 hours of photoperiod. /the larvae of the first species were fed on a diet composed of wheat flour + wheat bran (4:1), while that of the second were fed on a special semi-artificial diet (CENA-P1). The development of the two species was investigated under the above mentioned conditions, obtaining data concerning egg stage (incubation period and viability) larval stage (duration time and natural mortality), pupal stage (duration time and viability), adult stage (sex ratio, longevity and reproductive capacity), in addition to the whole life cycle. Conventional biological indicators, revealed that the rearing conditions established in the present work, showed to be of great suitability for maintaining cultures od these two species in the laboratory. The whole life cycle of the unmted individuals lasted more than the mated ones, dues to the greater longevity of the unmated adults. Observations on the biology of Apiomerus Lanipes (Fabricius) (Hemiptera, Reduviidae)
The aim of lhe presenl work is to descrihe the biological cycle of the Apiomenis lanipes (Fabricius, 1803) (Hemiptera, Reduviidae) on lahoralory conditions. Adults of Drosophila sp. (Diptera, Drosophilidae) and Ceralitis capitula (Wiedemann, 1824) (Diptera. Tephritidae) was offered for hug feeding (nymphs and adults). The developmenlal of the entire cycle (egg to adult) was 288.26 days and 294.85 days for males and females, respectively.
