    Lilin river has high economic valute. The function of this river as a connection between mainland. The purpose of this analysis is to find out the result of sedimentation happened in the edge Lilin river for sediment capacity bed load or basic of sediment. Sediment is pleces of materials, in general consist of rocks it is physically and chemically. Basic capacity (bed load) is particle that move in the base river. Situation of basic capacity always move, because of it along the base river always happen degradation and agradation process called as “alterasi base river” in research methodology use method dorect obseruation and the aspect is the buildup of sludge at Lilin river. The way to sediment is take the sample directly. The tools that used to take the sample were gauge, staff gauge, water dipper, wood and scoop. Analysis was used shear stress approach is Duboy's and Shield's approach, then energy slope is Meyer Peter and Miiller's approach. Based on calculation bed load discharge by using 3 methods, there are Duboy's, Shiled's and Meyer Peter miiller's. Then the result of calculation discharge for 1 year at Lilin river by using Duboy's method has value qb was 6,83x105 (lb/thn/ft), Shield's method has value qb was 8,33x10 5 (lb/thn/ft) and then qb by using Meyer-Peter and Miiller's was 4,99x10 7 (lb/thn/ft). for calculate the volume of sediment at edge Lilin river was value of qb by using Duboy's method was 267,42(lb/thn/ft), Shield's method was 219,36 (lb/thn/ft), Meyer-Peter and Miiller's was 36603,26 (lb/thn/ft), then dredging could be done suitable with the volume of sediment that has been calculated

    Louis Choris and Scientific Illustration: Visualizing Colonialism in New California

    This paper investigates artist Louis Choris and his book of scientific illustrations, Voyage Pittoresque autor de monde (1815), as a case study for the larger dilemma of visualizing factual modes of documentation. With a specific focus on Choris’s anthropological drawings of the indigenous people from the San Francisco Bay area and mission, it is argued how the decisions that must be made when representing something contain inherent biases. This contrasts with the functional usage of these drawings as documents meant to depict objective realities, especially in a time marked by heightened interest in taxonomy and the natural sciences. Above all, the existence of Choris’s illustrations do contain a surface positive when one acknowledges how they function within the larger colonial system, especially in the context of cultural preservation efforts by the modern Ohlone people

    Polymer electrolytes represent the ultimate in terms of desirable properties of energy storage/conversion devices, as they can offer an all-solid-state construction, a wide variety of shapes and sizes, light-weight, low costs, high energy density and safety. Here we present our recent results concerning a novel strategy for preparing efficient polymer membranes which are successfully demonstrated as suitable electrolytes for several energy conversion and storage devices (i.e., Li- and Na-based batteries and DSSCs). Highly ionic conducting polymer electrolytes containing PEO-based functionalities and different components (e.g., Li/Na salts, RTILs, natural biosourced and cellulosic fillers) are successfully prepared via a rapid process and, directly or subsequently, cross-linked via UV irradiation (patent pending, PCT/IT2014/000008). All the prepared materials are thoroughly characterised in terms of their physical, chemical and morphological properties and tested for their electrochemical performances and durability. The UV-curing process on such materials led to the production of elastic and resistant amorphous macromolecular networks. Noticeably increased ionic conductivities are registered (10-3 S cm-1 at RT), along with very stable interfacial and storage stability and wide electrochemical stability windows. The different lab-scale solid-state devices show remarkable performances even at ambient temperature, at the level of those using liquid electrolytes, respect to which demonstrate much greater durability and safety. The obtained findings demonstrate a new, easy and low cost approach to fabricate and tailor-make polymer electrolytes with highly promising prospects for the next generation of advanced flexible energy production and storage devices

    An agronomic evaluation of new safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) germplasm for seed and oil yields under Mediterraean climate conditions

    Interest in oilseed crops for agro-industrial research and development projects has increased in the Mediterranean area, in recent years. Saffloower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is of potential interest for agriculture mainly due to fatty acid content variability in the seed oil. The aim of this study was to assess the agronomic performance of 16 new safflower accessions together with safflower variety Montola 2000, used as a reference, in a semi-arid environment. Research was carried out in Sicily (Italy) from 2013–2014. Hierarchical cluster analysis carried out on the fatty acid composition of safflower accessions resulted in their division into four main groups. Linoleic, oleic and palmitic acids were the main fatty acids present in the accessions. Seed yield was 1.11 t ha-1 on average and seed oil content was found to be approximately 35.01% of dry matter on average. Positive and significant relationships between seed/oil yield and other tested traits were found. The carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen content as a percentage of dry matter varied greatly both for the above- and belowground plant parts on average. This study confirms the interest of safflower for both food and non-food applications, offering interesting prospects in semi-arid regions

    LONG-LASTING CRANIAL NERVE III PALSY AS A PRESENTING FEATURE OF CHRONIC INFLAMMATORY DEMYELINATING POLYNEUROPATHY

    We describe a patient with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) in which an adduction deficit and ptosis in the left eye presented several years before the polyneuropathy. A 52-year-old man presented with a 14-year history of unremitting diplopia, adduction deficit, and ptosis in the left eye. At the age of 45 a mild bilateral foot drop and impaired sensation in the four limbs appeared, with these symptoms showing a progressive course. The diagnostic workup included EMG/ENG which demonstrated reduced conduction velocity with bilateral and symmetrical sensory and motor involvement. Cerebrospinal fluid studies revealed a cytoalbuminologic dissociation.Aprolonged treatment with corticosteroids allowed a significant improvement of the limbweakness. Diplopia and ptosis remained unchanged.This unusual formof CIDP presented as a long-lasting isolated cranial nerve palsy. A diagnostic workup for CIDP should therefore be performed in those patients in which an isolated and unremitting cranial nerve palsy cannot be explained by common causes
