Loss of a cytoplasmic determinant through formation of protoplasts in Podospora

Long term storage of Podospora anserina
Until now, maintenance of Podospora anserina strains was tedious, requiring yearly sexual crosses, spore isolation and germination, verification of the genotype and transfer of mycelium to stock tubes maintained at 4 C. We have circumvented these difficulties by storage of ascospores at -80 C
Distributing Monte Carlo Errors as a Blue Noise in Screen Space by Permuting Pixel Seeds Between Frames
International audienceRecent work has shown that distributing Monte Carlo errors as a blue noise in screen space improves the perceptual quality of rendered images. However, obtaining such distributions remains an open problem with high sample counts and high-dimensional rendering integrals. In this paper, we introduce a temporal algorithm that aims at overcoming these limitations. Our algorithm is applicable whenever multiple frames are rendered, typically for animated sequences or interactive applications. Our algorithm locally permutes the pixel sequences (represented by their seeds) to improve the error distribution across frames. Our approach works regardless of the sample count or the dimensionality and significantly improves the images in low-varying screen-space regions under coherent motion. Furthermore, it adds negligible overhead compared to the rendering times
Real-Time Rendering of Glinty Appearances using Distributed Binomial Laws on Anisotropic Grids
In this work, we render in real-time glittery materials caused by discrete
flakes on the surface. To achieve this, one has to count the number of flakes
reflecting the light towards the camera within every texel covered by a given
pixel footprint. To do so, we derive a counting method for arbitrary footprints
that, unlike previous work, outputs the correct statistics. We combine this
counting method with an anisotropic parameterization of the texture space that
reduces the number of texels falling under a pixel footprint. This allows our
method to run with both stable performance and 1.5X to 5X faster than the
state-of-the-art.Comment: 9 page
Frequency Based Radiance Cache for Rendering Animations
International audienceWe propose a method to render animation sequences with direct distant lighting that only shades a fraction of the total pixels. We leverage frequency-based analyses of light transport to determine shading and image sampling rates across an animation using a samples cache. To do so, we derive frequency bandwidths that account for the complexity of distant lights, visibility, BRDF, and temporal coherence during animation. We finaly apply a cross-bilateral filter when rendering our final images from sparse sets of shading points placed according to our frequency-based oracles (generally < 25% of the pixels, per frame)
