Tensor gauge fields in arbitrary representations of GL(D,R): II. Quadratic actions
Quadratic, second-order, non-local actions for tensor gauge fields
transforming in arbitrary irreducible representations of the general linear
group in D-dimensional Minkowski space are explicitly written in a compact form
by making use of Levi-Civita tensors. The field equations derived from these
actions ensure the propagation of the correct massless physical degrees of
freedom and are shown to be equivalent to non-Lagrangian local field equations
proposed previously. Moreover, these actions allow a frame-like reformulation a
la MacDowell-Mansouri, without any trace constraint in the tangent indices.Comment: LaTeX, 53 pages, no figure. Accepted for publication in

An operative gamma camera for sentinel lymph node procedure in case of breast cancer
Large field of view gamma cameras are widely used to perform lymphoscintigraphy in the sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) procedure in case of breast cancer. However, they are not specified for this application and their sizes do not enable their use in the operative room to control the excision of the all SLN. We present the results obtained with a prototype of a new mini gamma camera developed especially for the operative lymphoscintigraphy of the axillary area in case of breast cancer. This prototype is composed of 10 mm thick parallel lead collimator, a 2 mm thick GSO:Ce inorganic scintillating crystal from Hitachi and a Hamamatsu H8500 flat panel multianode (64 channels) photomultiplier tube (MAPMT) equipped with a dedicated electronics. Its actual field of view is 50 × 50mm2. The gamma interaction position in the GSO scintillating plate is obtained by calculating the center of gravity of the fired MAPMT channels. The measurements performed with this prototype demonstrate the usefulness of this mini gamma camera for the pre, per and post-operative identification of SLN's and how its complementary role with an intraoperative handheld gamma probe enables to improve the efficiency of this practice. A 100 × 100mm2 field of view camera designated to cover the entire axillary area is under investigation
Very Extended and at low levels, Gravity and Supergravity
We define a level for a large class of Lorentzian Kac-Moody algebras. Using
this we find the representation content of very extended and
(i.e. ) at low levels in terms of and
representations respectively. The results are consistent with the conjectured
very extended and symmetries of gravity and maximal supergravity
theories given respectively in hep-th/0104081 and hep-th/0107209. We explain
how these results provided further evidence for these conjectures.Comment: 16 pages, plain tex (equation 3.3 modified and one reference

Mixed-symmetry tensor conserved currents and AdS/CFT correspondence
We present the full list of conserved currents built of two massless spinor
fields in Minkowski space and their derivatives multiplied by Clifford algebra
elements. The currents have particular mixed-symmetry type described by Young
diagrams with one row and one column of arbitrary lengths and heights. Along
with Yukawa-like totally antisymmetric currents the complete set of constructed
currents exactly matches the spectrum of AdS mixed-symmetry fields arising in
the generalized Flato-Fronsdal theorem for two spinor singletons. As a
by-product, we formulate and study general properties of primary fields and
conserved currents of mixed-symmetry type.Comment: 17 pages; v2: typos corrected, clarifications and refs added; v3:

Dynamics of Higher Spin Fields and Tensorial Space
The structure and the dynamics of massless higher spin fields in various
dimensions are reviewed with an emphasis on conformally invariant higher spin
fields. We show that in D=3,4,6 and 10 dimensional space-time the conformal
higher spin fields constitute the quantum spectrum of a twistor-like particle
propagating in tensorial spaces of corresponding dimensions. We give a detailed
analysis of the field equations of the model and establish their relation with
known formulations of free higher spin field theory.Comment: JHEP3 style, 40 pages; v2 typos corrected, comments and references

Xenon isotopes in Archean and Proterozoic insoluble organic matter: a robust indicator of syngenecity?
Insoluble organic materials (kerogens) isolated from ancient sedimentary rocks provide unique insights into the evolution of early life. However, establishing whether these kerogens are indeed syngenetic with the deposition of associated sedimentary host rocks, or contain contribution from episodes of secondary deposition, is not straightforward. Novel geochemical criterions are therefore required to test the syngenetic origin of Archean organic materials. On one hand, the occurrence of mass-independent fractionation of sulphur isotopes (MIF-S) provides a tool to test the Archean origin of ancient sedimentary rocks. Determining the isotope composition of sulphur within kerogens whilst limiting the contribution from associated minerals (e.g., nano-pyrites) is however challenging. On the other end, the Xe isotope composition of the Archean atmosphere has been shown to present enrichments in the light isotopes relative to its modern composition, together with a mono-isotopic deficit in ¹²⁹Xe. Given that the isotopic composition of atmospheric Xe evolved through time by mass dependent fractionation (MDF) until ∼2.5-2.0 Ga, the degree of MDF of Xe isotopes trapped in kerogens could provide a time stamp for the last chemical equilibration between organic matter and the atmosphere. However, the extent to which geological processes could affect the signature of Xe trapped in ancient kerogen remains unclear. In this contribution, we present new Ar, Kr and Xe isotopic data for four kerogens isolated from 3.4 to 1.8 Gy-old cherts and confirm that Xe isotopes from the Archean atmosphere can be retained within kerogens. However, new Xe-derived model ages are lower than expected from the ages of host rocks, indicating that initially trapped Xe components were at least partially lost and/or mixed together with some Xe carried out by younger generations of organic materials, therefore complicating the Xe-based dating method. Whilst non-null Δ³³S values and ¹²⁹Xe deficits relative to modern atmosphere constitute reliable imprints from the Archean atmosphere, using Xe isotopes to provide information on the syngenetic origin of ancient organic matter appears to be a promising - but not unequivocal - tool that calls for further analytical development
Covariant quantization of infinite spin particle models, and higher order gauge theories
Further properties of a recently proposed higher order infinite spin particle
model are derived. Infinitely many classically equivalent but different
Hamiltonian formulations are shown to exist. This leads to a condition of
uniqueness in the quantization process. A consistent covariant quantization is
shown to exist. Also a recently proposed supersymmetric version for half-odd
integer spins is quantized. A general algorithm to derive gauge invariances of
higher order Lagrangians is given and applied to the infinite spin particle
model, and to a new higher order model for a spinning particle which is
proposed here, as well as to a previously given higher order rigid particle
model. The latter two models are also covariantly quantized.Comment: 38 pages, Late
Half-integer Higher Spin Fields in (A)dS from Spinning Particle Models
We make use of O(2r+1) spinning particle models to construct linearized
higher-spin curvatures in (A)dS spaces for fields of arbitrary half-integer
spin propagating in a space of arbitrary (even) dimension: the field
potentials, whose curvatures are computed with the present models, are
spinor-tensors of mixed symmetry corresponding to Young tableaux with D/2 - 1
rows and r columns, thus reducing to totally symmetric spinor-tensors in four
dimensions. The paper generalizes similar results obtained in the context of
integer spins in (A)dS.Comment: 1+18 pages; minor changes in the notation, references updated.

Higher-Spin Interactions: four-point functions and beyond
In this work we construct an infinite class of four-point functions for
massless higher-spin fields in flat space that are consistent with the gauge
symmetry. In the Lagrangian picture, these reflect themselves in a peculiar
non-local nature of the corresponding non-abelian higher-spin couplings implied
by the Noether procedure that starts from the fourth order. We also comment on
the nature of the colored spin-2 excitation present both in the open string
spectrum and in the Vasiliev system, highlighting how some aspects of String
Theory appear to reflect key properties of Field Theory that go beyond its low
energy limit. A generalization of these results to n-point functions, fermions
and mixed-symmetry fields is also addressed.Comment: 66 pages, 10 figures, 1 table, LaTex. Several statements clarified.
