Spectroscopic characterization and quantum chemical investigation of molecular structure and vibrational spectra of phthalazine-1(2H)-one

    Get PDF
In this study, vibrational and electronic transition analysis of phthalazine-1(2H)-one have been presented using experimental techniques FT-IR, FT-Raman and density functional theory (DFT) calculation. The structural properties of the molecule in the ground state have been calculated using DFT employing B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) basis set. Optimized geometrical parameters have been interpreted and compared with the experimental values. The complete assignments have been performed on the basis of the experimental data and potential energy distribution (PED) of the vibrational modes. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies and energy difference (ΔEHOMO‒LUMO = − 4.876 eV), confirm that charge transfers occur within the molecule. The stability of the molecule arising from hyperconjugative interactions and the charge delocalization has been analyzed using natural bond orbital’s analysis (NBO). The specific heat, Gibb’s free energy, and entropy of molecule have been calculated as a function of temperature by using statistical mechanics coupled with quantum chemical calculation. Observed vibrational wave numbers have been compared with calculated values, and found to be in agreement with experimental results. The study of dielectric properties like dielectric constant at microwave frequency, static dielectric constant and dielectric constant at optical frequency of Phthalazine-1(2H)-one have been determined. The dielectric relaxation studies provide information about the molecular structure and intermolecular interaction between phthalazine-1(2H)-one and alcohol mixture

Peripheral Ameloblastoma: A Case Report and Review of Literature

    Get PDF
Peripheral ameloblastoma, a rare and unusual variant of odontogenic tumour, comprises about 2–10% of all ameloblastomas. The extraosseous location is the peculiar feature of this type of tumour, which is otherwise similar to the classical ameloblastoma. This paper describes a case of peripheral ameloblastoma in a 67-year-old female affecting the lingual alveolar mucosa of the mandibular 32–34 region which was clinically diagnosed as pyogenic granuloma. This paper becomes important due to availability of all data, makeing it a well-documented case

A COMMUNITY BASED CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY TO ASSESS THE UNMET NEED OF FAMILY PLANNING IN URBAN SLUMS AND IT’S DETERMINANTS IN WESTERN PART OF INDIA

Context: Unmet need is a valuable indicator of National Family Planning Programme. It shows how well the programme achieves the key mission of meeting the population’s felt need of family planning. It is added to the 5th MDG as an indicator concerned with maternal health. Aims: To find out 1.) Unmet need of family planning and 2.) Its determinants. Settings and Design: A community based cross sectional study was done among married women of age 15-45 years of urban slums in Jamnagar city. Methods and Material: total 200 study participants were selected by systemic random sampling and interviewed by using pretested semi-structured Performa. Statistical analysis used: Microsoft excel was used for data entry and analysis done by software Epi-info. Results: overall level of unmet need was 20.50%. It was found to be influenced by various socio-demographic factors (age of women, gender of last child and accessibility to the service providers) and these associations were found statistically significant. Number of living children, occupation, and period of active married life, religion and collective decision had no any effect on unmet need. (No statistically significant associations). Major reasons for not using any methods were inconvenience (51.22%), refusal by spouse/family members (21.95%) and lack of knowledge (19.51%) Conclusions: unmet need was higher in more fertile age-group therefore program should focus more on this agegroup. Female education contributes significantly in reduction of unmet need. By encouraging inter-spousal communication and male participation for family planning decision-making is important in bridging the gap between met and unmet need

The south-east region consisting of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is spread over a coastal length of 2,050 km and as per the Marine Fisheries Census 2010, this region has 785 landing centres, 1,168 marine fishing villages, 3.7 lakh fishermen families and 14.63 lakh fisher folk. The estimate of total marine fish landings in 2009 for the south-east region was 8,05,295 t accounting for 25.1% of the total marine fish landings in the country

Spontaneous Gender Categorization in Masking and Priming Studies: Key for Distinguishing Jane from John Doe but Not Madonna from Sinatra

Facial recognition is key to social interaction, however with unfamiliar faces only generic information, in the form of facial stereotypes such as gender and age is available. Therefore is generic information more prominent in unfamiliar versus familiar face processing? In order to address the question we tapped into two relatively disparate stages of face processing. At the early stages of encoding, we employed perceptual masking to reveal that only perception of unfamiliar face targets is affected by the gender of the facial masks. At the semantic end; using a priming paradigm, we found that while to-be-ignored unfamiliar faces prime lexical decisions to gender congruent stereotypic words, familiar faces do not. Our findings indicate that gender is a more salient dimension in unfamiliar relative to familiar face processing, both in early perceptual stages as well as later semantic stages of person construal

HLA genotyping in the international Type 1 Diabetes Genetics Consortium

    Get PDF
Background Although human leukocyte antigen (HLA) DQ and DR loci appear to confer the strongest genetic risk for type 1 diabetes, more detailed information is required for other loci within the HLA region to understand causality and stratify additional risk factors. The Type 1 Diabetes Genetics Consortium (T1DGC) study design included high-resolution genotyping of HLA-A, B, C, DRB1, DQ, and DP loci in all affected sibling pair and trio families, and cases and controls, recruited from four networks worldwide, for analysis with clinical phenotypes and immunological markers

Alcohol Use Disorders (AUD) among Tuberculosis Patients: A Study from Chennai, South India

BACKGROUND: Alcohol Use Disorders (AUDs) among tuberculosis (TB) patients are associated with nonadherence and poor treatment outcomes. Studies from Tuberculosis Research Centre (TRC), Chennai have reported that alcoholism has been one of the major reasons for default and mortality in under the DOTS programme in South India. Hence, it is planned to conduct a study to estimate prevalence of alcohol use and AUDs among TB patients attending the corporation health centres in Chennai, India. METHODOLOGY: This is a cross-sectional cohort study covering 10 corporation zones at Chennai and it included situational assessment followed by screening of TB patients by a WHO developed Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test AUDIT scale. Four zones were randomly selected and all TB patients treated during July to September 2009 were screened with AUDIT scale for alcohol consumption. RESULTS: Out of 490 patients, 66% were males, 66% were 35 years and above, 57% were married, 58% were from the low monthly income group of <Rs 5000 per month. No females reported alcohol use. Overall, out of 490 TB pts, 29% (141) were found to consume alcohol. Among 141 current drinkers 52% (73) had an AUDIT score of >8. Age (>35 years), education (less educated), income (<Rs 5000 per month), marital status (separated/divorced) and treatment category (Category 2) were statistically significant for TB patients with alcohol use than those TB patients without alcohol use. CONCLUSIONS: AUD among TB patients needs to be addressed urgently and the findings suggest the importance of integrating alcohol treatment into TB care
