Seismic-risk Mitigation for Brittle Museum Exhibits: Zagreb Experiences and Perspectives

A strong ML5.5 earthquake, that struck Zagreb in March 2020 caused significant damage to many buildings in the city centre and several museums had to be temporarily closed or relocated. However, what is sometimes being overlooked, are the many valuable museum collections that were severely damaged or irreparably destroyed due to the excessive seismic vibrations. Mainly due to a lack of financial resources and inadequate spatial conditions and capacities, even the most valuable and unique artifacts in Croatian museums are often insufficiently seismically protected. The paper addresses seismic risk mitigation for sculptures and other brittle artworks that are particularly sensitive to strong seismic accelerations. In contrast to the traditional rigid securing of protected objects, a novel technique, namely base isolation, benefits from their partially unrestrained sliding movement, which accommodates the ground vibrations. Although it has proven effective for many valuable sculptures around the world, it is however, extremely costly and mostly out of reach of the limited financial resources of the Croatian cultural sector. The experiences of the Zagreb museums and the implemented protection mechanisms before and after the March 2020 earthquake are being examined, with the aim of discussing feasible solutions that suit local means and circumstances

U našem ćemo radu dati jednu opću kronologiju i pregled gradnje zagrebačke katedrale. Spomenut ćemo sve probleme i nedoumice koje je ona dosad postavila pred istraživače, međutim prvenstveno ćemo se koncentrirati na samo tijelo, odnosno lađe koje predstavljaju najmlađi srednjovjekovni dio katedrale i vjerojatno najčitkiju cjelinu s obzirom na znatne restauratorske intervencije koje je Herman Bollé izvršio nakon velikog potresa 1880. godine

A variable-geometry beam-shaping assembly for accelerator-based BNCT

Although the beam shaping assemblies (BSAs) for reactor-based Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) facilities are typically of a single design, the accelerator beams with the possibility to provide neutron spectrum to give characteristics which are optimum for different treatment sites and tumor depth generally may require a fine-tuning procedure which can be undertaken with variable-geometry BSA. In this study, a special geometry is proposed for use with a hybrid photoneutron source equipped with drill-chuck type head. Both the neutron spectrum and epithermal neutron flux can be treated by changing the BSA geometry

Droit international humanitaire – génocide, crimes contres l’humanité, crimes de guerre : travail terminographique

Dans notre travail terminologique nous avons effectué l’analyse de la terminologie française du domaine du droit international humanitaire où plus précisément de la partie du droit international humanitaire qui porte sur le crime de génocide, les crimes contré l’humanité et les crimes de guerre. D’abord nous avons présenté la théorie de la terminologie et de sa méthodologie de travail et ensuite nous avons appliqué ces règles et cette théorie retenues à la traduction. En utilisant la méthodologie terminologique nous avons traduit le texte choisi en dépouillant le corpus, c’est-à-dire en repérant les termes pertinents. Notre travail terminologique nous a quand même posé quelques problèmes. Dans un domaine si étroit il est parfois difficile de trouver des collocations ou des exemples satisfaisant des contextes où les termes sont employés. Ils se limitent à un champ bien délimité et exclusif. Ces termes ne sont guère flexibles (ce qui veut dire que leur application est très limitée et reste dans le champ d’une partie du droit international humanitaire). Et pourtant on peut les trouver dans les domaines bien différents alors qu’il est connu que les termes d’un domaine spécialisé ne devaient pas être appliqués dans un autre. On peut donc trouver des termes provenant du domaine du droit international humanitaire dans la langue de spécialité appartenant au domaine du droit pénal. Par ailleurs, la plupart des termes sont de nature nominale et composés de plusieurs unités lexicales ce qui les rend assez longs
