Integrated Stratigraphy of the Cenozoic Andean Foreland Basin (Northern Argentina)

    Get PDF
The stratigraphic and sedimentologic characteristics of Cenozoic deposits in north‐western Argentina represent important tectono‐sedimentary constraints on the evolution of the Andean foreland basin in this region. This nonmarine unit unconformably rests on the top of the postrift deposits of the middle Eocene Lumbrera Formation (Santa Bárbara Subgroup, Salta Group) or on older deposits. Eocene‐Pliocene paleoenvironmental changes were the direct result of changes in the tectonic setting and accommodation space. This study describes the results of an integrated analysis of the middle‐upper Eocene to Plio‐Pleistocene deposits filling the basins of the Cordillera Oriental. Fluvial deposits associated with different topographic slopes characterize the basins that formed in the Central Andes of north‐western Argentina due to Cenozoic tectonic convergence. The formation of these basins led to the development of continental sedimentary environments, including an ephemeral fluvial system with aeolian dune fields; a sandy braided fluvial system; a playa lake; a sinuous gravelly sandy fluvial system with lagoons; and lagoons and marshes. These basins, which were probably connected during the first stage of their development, are characterized by different subsidence histories, sedimentary paleoenvironmental evolution patterns, topographic slopes, provenances, and paleocurrent directions, resulting in different tectono‐sedimentary histories

The Zika virus epidemic, officially declared a global emergency, and the threats of retrocession in the Legislative Branch, like Bill of Law n. 5.059, Brazil runs the risk of counteracting the measures needed to guarantee women's sexual and reproductive health, as expressed by the World Health Organization and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, calling on governments to fulfill their responsibility to reverse restrictive laws and policies, expand access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, and guarantee access to information and the right to health for all women, without discriminationhttp://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S0102-311X2016000400301&lng=pt&nrm=iso&tlng=e

Tectosedimentary evolution of the Payogastilla Group and and its relation to Cenozoic volcanic arc, in the Calchaquí, Tonco and Amblayo valleys, Salta province, Argentina

    Get PDF
The stratigraphic and sedimentological characteristics of Payogastilla Group deposits are very important to study tecto-sedimentary evolution of the Andean foreland basin in northwestern Argentina. The lower stratigraphic boundary of Payogastilla Group with the Lumbrera Formation (Santa Barbara Subgroup, Salta Group) deposits is a paraconformity. The upper stratigraphic boundary, the Colorados Formations is a paraconformity and a unconformity, the subsidence of the basin was uniform and the duration of the initial deposit was about ~35 to 21 Ma. During the middle to upper Miocene, represented by Angastaco Formation deposits, with a thickness of 4550 m (in Calchaquí river) and 1500 m (in Tonco) it took place a major tectonic influence, which delimited the basin depocenter in Angastaco basin. This event started in Tonco valley (>13.7 Ma) and later continued in Calchaquí valley (~13 Ma). Also in the ~13 Ma it have developed two orographic barriers (Los Colorados and León Muerto ranges), in the eastern, that during the Late Miocene (10-5 Ma) would have been reactivated to an important orographic chains form. During the Pliocene the tectonic uplifts would have reactivated, being registered as alluvial fans with a strong provenance from the east. Levels tuff deposits intercalated in Angastaco and Palo Pintado formations, show a clear signature of the arc indicating their origin of the arc active to those times with features that indicate a crustal component in their magmas participant. While pyroclastic levels intercalated in San Felipe Formation, with higher peraluminous character and lower Na20 K20 content regarding, which lie in the area of the type S granites, giving different cortical components idea.Fil: Galli, Claudia. AbstractAccording to the International Cooperative Alliance, in its statement on identity and Cooperative Principles (1995) by defining mentions that: "A cooperative is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their needs and aspirations, economic, social and cultural ... ". Thus Unions are not for profit distributable, as in a commercial society, yet generated a surplus of this will be returned to those who helped shape it, thus leading to the return to be paid to partners.Key Words: Cooperative Acts ; Surplus distributable ; Return to Associate

Fixed and on-demand regimens of acetaminophen in periodontal surgery : randomized clinical trial

    Get PDF
Aim: to evaluate the clinical efficacy of an acetaminophen analgesic by comparing its prescription in fixed versus ondemand schedules after periodontal surgery. The hypothesis of the study was that the fixed regimen would be more effective than the on-demand regimen for postoperative analgesics following periodontal surgery. Methods: An open randomized clinical trial was conducted. The 68 patients who needed total flap surgery to restore supracrestal tissue attachment or surgical treatment of periodontitis were randomized”. Visual Analogue Scale was used to assess pain. The fixed group (n = 34) received 500 mg of acetaminophen every 4 hours for 2 days. The on-demand group (n = 34) was instructed to use the acetaminophen “as needed,” at intervals of no less than 4 hours between doses. Ibuprofen was the rescue medication for both groups. Pain scores and medication use were recorded 2, 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours after the surgical procedure. The study was registered at the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials under RBR-7wv259. Results: The two groups did not differ in relation to the frequency or the intensity of pain in a 48-hour period (n=20 in the fixed group, and n=22 in the on-demand group), or even in the intention-to-treat (n=34 in each group). Individuals who experienced moderate to severe pain used rescue medication more frequently in both groups. No adverse events were reported. Conclusion: Both regimens were effective in controlling postoperative pain after periodontal surgery
