Smarr's formula for black holes with non-linear electrodynamics

It is known that for nonlinear electrodynamics the First Law of Black Hole Mechanics holds, however the Smarr's formula for the total mass does not. In this contribution we discuss the point and determine the corresponding expressions for the Bardeen black hole solution that represents a nonlinear magnetic monopole. The same is done for the regular black hole solution derived by Ayon-Beato and Garcia, showing that in the case that variations of the electric charge are involved, the Smarr's formula does not longer is valid.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures.Contribution to the Festscrift of Prof. A. Implementing strength training strategies for injury prevention in soccer: scientific rationale and methodological recommendations

    Get PDF
Due to the negative effects that injuries have on performance, club finances, and long-term player health (permanent disability after a severe injury), prevention strategies are an essential part of both sports medicine and performance. Purpose: This commentary aims to summarize the current evidence regarding strength training (ST) for injury prevention in soccer and to inform their evidence-based implementation in research and applied settings. Conclusions: The contemporary literature suggests ST proposed as traditional resistance, eccentric, and flywheel training may be valid methods to reduce the injury risk in soccer players. Training strategies involving multiple components (e.g., a combination of strength, balance, plyometrics) which include strength exercises are effective at reducing non-contact injuries in female soccer. Additionally, the body of research current published support the use of eccentric training in sports, which offers unique physiological responses compared to other resistance exercise modalities. It seems that the Nordic hamstring exercise, in particular, is a viable option for the reduction of hamstring injuries in soccer players. Moreover, flywheel training has specific training peculiarities and advantages which are related to the combination of both concentric and eccentric contraction, which may play an important role in injury prevention. It is authors’ opinion strength and conditioning coaches should integrate the ST methods here proposed in their weekly training routine to reduce the likelihood of injuries in their players, however, further research is needed to verify the advantages and disadvantages of these training methods to injury prevention using specific cohorts of soccer players

Exploring AdS Waves Via Nonminimal Coupling

We consider nonminimally coupled scalar fields to explore the Siklos spacetimes in three dimensions. Their interpretation as exact gravitational waves propagating on AdS restrict the source to behave as a pure radiation field. We show that the related pure radiation constraints single out a unique self-interaction potential depending on one coupling constant. For a vanishing coupling constant, this potential reduces to a mass term with a mass fixed in terms of the nonminimal coupling parameter. This mass dependence allows the existence of several free cases including massless and tachyonic sources. There even exists a particular value of the nonminimal coupling parameter for which the corresponding mass exactly compensates the contribution generated by the negative scalar curvature, producing a genuinely massless field in this curved background. The self-interacting case is studied in detail for the conformal coupling. The resulting gravitational wave is formed by the superposition of the free and the self-interaction contributions, except for a critical value of the coupling constant where a non-perturbative effect relating the strong and weak regimes of the source appears. We establish a correspondence between the scalar source supporting an AdS wave and a pp wave by showing that their respective pure radiation constraints are conformally related, while their involved backgrounds are not. Finally, we consider the AdS waves for topologically massive gravity and its limit to conformal gravity.Comment: 26 pages, 1 figure. Minor change

Non-Singular Charged Black Hole Solution for Non-Linear Source

    Get PDF
A non-singular exact black hole solution in General Relativity is presented. The source is a non-linear electromagnetic field, which reduces to the Maxwell theory for weak field. The solution corresponds to a charged black hole with |q| \leq 2s_c m \approx 0.6 m, having metric, curvature invariants, and electric field bounded everywhere.Comment: 3 pages, RevTe

Black hole solutions in Euler-Heisenberg theory

We construct static and spherically symmetric black hole solutions in the Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg (EEH) system which is considered as an effective action of a superstring theory. We considered electrically charged, magnetically charged and dyon solutions. We can solve analytically for the magnetically charged case. We find that they have some remarkable properties about causality and black hole thermodynamics depending on the coupling constant of the EH theory aa and bb, though they have central singularity as in the Schwarzschild black hole.Comment: 8 pages, 13 figures, figures corrected and some comments adde

Effects of maturation on lower limb neuromuscular asymmetries in elite youth tennis players

Neuromuscular asymmetries have been previously associated with reduced performance. Similarly, maturation has shown that youth athletes may experience a loss of motor control, which could also lead to compromised physical performance. The present study aimed to evaluate and quantify the level of asymmetry among chronological and maturational groups. Forty-one youth tennis players performed the single leg countermovement jump (SLCMJ), star excursion balance test (SEBT) and a change of direction speed (CODS) test. Differences were found between the strongest and weakest limbs across all tests (p 0.001), and also for SEBT in the posteromedial direction (p = 0.02), SEBT composite score (p 0.01) in maturation groups, and for SEBT posterolateral direction (p = 0.03) and SEBT composite score (p = 0.01) in chronological groups. The SLCMJ showed the largest inter-limb asymmetries for the circa peak height velocity (PHV) group (19.31 ± 12.19%) and under-14 (U14) group (17.55 ± 9.90%). Chronological and maturation groups followed similar trends for inter-limb asymmetries, but the biological index showed larger asymmetry scores in the jumping test at PHV compared to that found in the chronological group (U14). These results show that inter-limb differences may be heightened during PHV. Practitioners can use this information to inform the decision-making process when prescribing training interventions in youth tennis players

Relationship between inter-limb asymmetries and speed and change of direction speed in youth handball players

The aims of the present study were to quantify inter-limb asymmetry from jumping, change of direction speed (CODS) and iso-inertial tests and to establish the association between those asymmetry scores and performance during speed and CODS tests in youth handball athletes. Twenty-six youth handball players (age: 16.2 0.9 years) volunteered to participate in this study and performed single leg countermovement jumps (SLCMJ), broad jumps (SLBJ), lateral jumps (SLLJ), CODS tests at 180º (CODS180) and 90º (CODS90), change of direction actions with iso-inertial overload (crossover step (CRO) and lateral shuffle step (LSS)) and 20 m sprint test. Excellent ICC values were found for all tests (ICC = 0.96-1.00) with the exception of the dominant limb during the CODS90 test (ICC = 0.69). Inter-limb asymmetry scores ranged from 3.66-12.67%. Iso-inertial asymmetry values were higher than those found during jumping tasks (9.8-12.7% vs. 3.66-8.76%). Spearman's r correlations showed significant relationships between CRO asymmetry and CODS90 performance on both limbs (r = 0.48-0.51; p < 0.05) and CODS180 (r = 0.41-0.51; p < 0.05) and sprint test (r = 0.46; p < 0.05). These results show the test-specific nature of asymmetries in youth handball players, with iso-inertial device and CODS deficit presenting the greatest magnitude of asymmetries. Furthermore, inter-limb differences during iso-inertial device (CRO) were associated with reduced CODS and sprint performance. These results suggest that the use of iso-inertial devices for the detection of inter-limb asymmetry may be more effective than total time during traditional CODS tests and that larger imbalances are associated with reduced athletic performance in youth handball players

The family of regular interiors for non-rotating black holes with T00=T11T^0_0 = T^1_1

We find the general solution for the spacetimes describing the interior of static black holes with an equation of state of the type T00=T11 T^0_0 = T^1_1 (TT being the stress-energy tensor). This form is the one expected from taking into account different quantum effects associated with strong gravitational fields. We recover all the particular examples found in the literature. We remark that all the solutions found follow the natural scheme of an interior core linked smoothly with the exterior solution by a transient region. We also discuss their local energy properties and give the main ideas involved in a possible generalization of the scheme, in order to include other realistic types of sources.Comment: 31 pages, 1 figure, version to appear in Physical Review

The first regular exact black hole solution in General Relativity is presented. The source is a nonlinear electrodynamic field satisfying the weak energy condition, which in the limit of weak field becomes the Maxwell field. The solution corresponds to a charged black hole with |q| \leq 2 s_c m \approx 0.6 m, having the metric, the curvature invariants, and the electric field regular everywhere.Comment: 5 pages, RevTex, 6 figure
