On Berenstein-Douglas-Seiberg Duality
I review the proposal of Berenstein-Douglas for a completely general
definition of Seiberg duality. To give evidence for their conjecture I present
the first example of a physical dual pair and explicitly check that it
satisfies the requirements. Then I explicitly show that a pair of toric dual
quivers is also dual according to their proposal. All these computations go
beyond tilting modules, and really work in the derived category. I introduce
all necessary mathematics where needed.Comment: 22 pages, LaTe

D-branes Wrapped on Fuzzy del Pezzo Surfaces
We construct classical solutions in quiver gauge theories on D0-branes
probing toric del Pezzo singularities in Calabi-Yau manifolds. Our solutions
represent D4-branes wrapped around fuzzy del Pezzo surfaces. We study the
fluctuation spectrum around the fuzzy CP^2 solution in detail. We also comment
on possible applications of our fuzzy del Pezzo surfaces to the fuzzy version
of F-theory, dubbed F(uzz) theory.Comment: 1+42 pages, 9 figures v2: references added v3: statements on the

Proximity Effect and Josephson Coupling in the SO(5) Theory of High-Tc Superconductivity
We consider proximity effect coupling in
Superconducting/Antiferromagnetic/Superconducting (S-A-S) sandwiches using the
recently developed SO(5) effective theory of high temperature
superconductivity. We find that, for narrow junctions, the A region acts like a
strong superconductor, and that there is a critical junction thickness which
depends on the effective SO(5) coupling constants and on the phase difference
across the junction, at which the A region undergoes a Freedericksz-like
transition to a state which is intermediate between superconductor and
antiferromagnet. For thick junctions, the current-phase relation is sinusoidal,
as in standard S-N-S and S-I-S junctions, but for thin junctions it shows a
sharp break in slope at the Freedericksz point.Comment: 4 pages, LATEX, 5 eps fig
Emerging Non-Anomalous Baryonic Symmetries in the AdS_5/CFT_4 Correspondence
We study the breaking of baryonic symmetries in the AdS_5/CFT_4
correspondence for D3 branes at Calabi-Yau three-fold singularities. This
leads, for particular VEVs, to the emergence of non-anomalous baryonic
symmetries during the renormalization group flow. We claim that these VEVs
correspond to critical values of the B-field moduli in the dual supergravity
backgrounds. We study in detail the C^3/Z_3 orbifold, the cone over F_0 and the
C^3/Z_5 orbifold. For the first two examples, we study the dual supergravity
backgrounds that correspond to the breaking of the emerging baryonic symmetries
and identify the expected Goldstone bosons and global strings in the infra-red.
In doing so we confirm the claim that the emerging symmetries are indeed
non-anomalous baryonic symmetries.Comment: 65 pages, 15 figures;v2: minor changes, published versio
Reverse geometric engineering of singularities
One can geometrically engineer supersymmetric field theories theories by
placing D-branes at or near singularities. The opposite process is described,
where one can reconstruct the singularities from quiver theories. The
description is in terms of a noncommutative quiver algebra which is constructed
from the quiver diagram and the superpotential. The center of this
noncommutative algebra is a commutative algebra, which is the ring of
holomorphic functions on a variety V. If certain algebraic conditions are met,
then the reverse geometric engineering produces V as the geometry that D-branes
probe. It is also argued that the identification of V is invariant under
Seiberg dualities.Comment: 17 pages, Latex. v2: updates reference
Mastering the Master Space
Supersymmetric gauge theories have an important but perhaps under-appreciated
notion of a master space, which controls the full moduli space. For
world-volume theories of D-branes probing a Calabi-Yau singularity X the
situation is particularly illustrative. In the case of one physical brane, the
master space F is the space of F-terms and a particular quotient thereof is X
itself. We study various properties of F which encode such physical quantities
as Higgsing, BPS spectra, hidden global symmetries, etc. Using the plethystic
program we also discuss what happens at higher number N of branes. This letter
is a summary and some extensions of the key points of a longer companion paper

The Toric Phases of the Y^{p,q} Quivers
We construct all connected toric phases of the recently discovered
quivers and show their IR equivalence using Seiberg duality. We also compute
the R and global U(1) charges for a generic toric phase of .Comment: 14 pages, 3 figure
