Developing an Overbooking Fuzzy-Based Mathematical Optimization Model for Multi-Leg Flights

Overbooking is one of the most vital revenue management practices that is used in the airline industry. Identification of an overbooking level is a challenging task due to the uncertainties associated with external factors, such as demand for tickets, and inappropriate overbooking levels which may cause revenue losses as well as loss of reputation and customer loyalty. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to propose a fuzzy linear programming model and Genetic Algorithms (GAs) to maximize the overall revenue of a large-scale multi-leg flight network by minimizing the number of empty seats and the number of denied passengers. A fuzzy logic technique is used for modeling the fuzzy demand on overbooking flight tickets and a metaheuristics-based GA technique is adopted to solve large-scale multi-leg flights problem. As part of model verification, the proposed GA is applied to solve a small multi-leg flight linear programming model with a fuzzified demand factor. In addition, experimentation with large-scale problems with different input parameters’ settings such as penalty rate, show-up rate and demand level are also conducted to understand the behavior of the developed model. The validation results show that the proposed GA produces almost identical results to those in a small-scale multi-leg flight problem. In addition, the performance of the large-scale multi-leg flight network represented by a number of KPIs including total booking, denied passengers and net-overbooking profit towards changing these input parameters will also be revealed

Many entrepreneurial and other collective initiatives create social impact in addition to economic gains. In this paper, we will discuss these initiatives with a focus on the financing ecosystem that is crucial to these organizations. We first discuss the social and solidarity economy before talking about entrepreneurship and social enterprises. We focus next on cooperatives, which are very important in our context for the impact they contribute to achieve. The topic of the social and solidarity economy (SSE) in Morocco garners extensive attention within economic, political, and academic circles. Given the unique Moroccan backdrop, regional advancements, demographic dynamics, and economic traits, it accentuates considerable social issues and amplifies the significance of SSE entities, especially concerning their target audience. The SSE landscape, comprising a diverse array of organizations, has continually adapted and expanded since the country gained independence to address the distinct features of its environment.Muitas iniciativas empresariais e outras iniciativas coletivas criam impacto social para além dos ganhos económicos. Neste documento, discutiremos essas iniciativas com foco no ecossistema de financiamento que é crucial para essas organizações. Começamos por discutir a economia social e solidária antes de falarmos do empreendedorismo e das empresas sociais. De seguida, focamos as cooperativas, que são muito importantes no nosso contexto pelo impacto que contribuem para alcançar. O tema da economia social e solidária (ESS) em Marrocos é objeto de grande atenção nos meios económicos, políticos e académicos. Dada a singularidade do contexto marroquino, os avanços regionais, a dinâmica demográfica e as características económicas, acentuam-se as questões sociais consideráveis e amplifica-se a importância das entidades da ESS, especialmente no que diz respeito ao seu público-alvo. O panorama da ESS, que inclui um conjunto diversificado de organizações, tem vindo a adaptar-se e a expandir-se continuamente desde a independência do país para responder às características distintas do seu ambiente. Este artigo é o resultado de uma presença prolongada no nosso campo de investigação. Recolhemos dados qualitativos após várias entrevistas que comparámos com os dados oficiais apresentados no documento. Neste artigo, fizemos um inventário das principais características do sector da ESS antes de discutirmos as medidas tomadas na sequência da pandemia de covid-19. Por fim, destacamos a necessidade de financiar as cooperativas e de incentivar a digitalização dos seus modelos de negócio

Analysis of the Documentary Information of Scientific and Technical Research of the Moroccan Marine Environment

Since the beginning of the first decade of this century, the Moroccan scientific and technical media scene has witnessed a great development in the production of information favored by the evolution of information and communication technologies. The modernization and equipment in communication infrastructures of Moroccan institutions specialized in the production and the diffusion of the information contributed to the radiation of the research works in marine sciences. The results of these institutions' efforts are presented in several products, in particular the portals of national institutes and documentation centers and their databases, which include their archives and archives of universities and scientific and technical institutes. This paper looks at the contribution of information and documentation systems in the creation and dissemination of Moroccan scientific and technical information in the marine environment. We will try to give a general overview of all existing Moroccan infrastructures and a detailed statistical analysis on the type of existing information, whether open source or restricted

Proposal for Management and Control of Intermodal Containers Using Monte Carlo Simulation

When examining the increased attention in freight transportation, a necessity for sustainable and efficient transportation system appears. The presence of road and traffic complications as well as environmental concerns forces us to develop or adapt an alternative operational system that allows us to overcome these issues. Moreover, the escalation in fuel prices in addition to driver issues for road-only haulage forms an unprofitable and unreliable approach. In this on-going MBA project, container management issues are addressed. A number of delays and their casuals are discussed and analysed. Moreover a Monte Carlo simulation framework is proposed to be used to analyse the interaction of different loading and unloading resources and containers within intermodal container management

Developing an Agent Based Heuristic Optimisation System for Complex Flow Shops with Customer-Imposed Production Disruptions

The study of complex manufacturing flow-shops has seen a number of approaches and frameworks proposed to tackle various production-associated problems. However, unpredictable disruptions, such as change in sequence of order, order cancellation and change in production delivery due time, imposed by customers on flow-shops that impact production processes and inventory control call for a more adaptive approach capable of responding to these changes. In this research work, a new adaptive framework and agent-based heuristic optimization system was developed to investigate the disruption consequences and recovery strategy. A case study using an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) production process of automotive parts and components was adopted to justify the proposed system. The results of the experiment revealed significant improvement in terms of total number of late orders, order delivery time, number of setups and resources utilization, which provide useful information for manufacturer’s decision-making policies.
