Evaluation of the strength anisotropy for railway wheels

    Get PDF
The results of experimental investigation of railway wheel failures and strength anisotropy due to rolling contact fatigue are presented. The results indicate that plasticity acts to concentrate regions of intense hardening near the edges of contact. The determination of overall mechanical properties of small-scale volumes frequently relies on the indentation technique. Strength characteristics of the wheel material were investigated by dynamic indentation method and portable dynamic indentation tester was used for hardness measurements. It was found that some characteristic force values of the instrumented hardness test are very well correlated to tensile strengt

This paper proposes the concept of a new type of Cylindrical Automated Storage and Retrieval system (C-AS/RS), which consists of the octagonal shape rack, system input/output (I/O) positions, load storage and retrieval mechanism (SRM), which rotates and moves simultaneously and contains a number of load handling devices (LHDs). Physical structure of the single and multi-LHD systems, control algorithms and the performance measures were presented. Simulation modelling techniques, descriptive statistics and analysis of variance were used in this research to identify the effects of different location of I/O positions, the number of LHDs on the SRM and the retrieval request rates to the performance of the C-AS/RS system.В данной работе описывается концепция aвтоматизированных цилиндрических систем складирования нового типа (англ. Cylindrical Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems - C-AS/RS), которая состоит из стеллажа восьмиугольной формы, системы локализации ввода / вывода (англ. input/output-I / O), механизма сбора и хранения груза (англ. Storage Retrieval Mechanism - SRM), который вращается и движется одновременно и содержит ряд погрузочно-разгрузочных устройств (англ. Load Handling Device - LHD).

Sustainable urban transport in Lithuania: influence of land use and socio-economic development

    No full text
For sustainable urban transport planning, instead of the direct prediction of transport demand based on tendency prognosis, the connection between influential factors and demand is modeled in this paper. The prognosis of influential factors used takes into account the reasons behind public transport demand. Practical realization of such a task demands a detailed analysis of the influence of these factors on the transport demand presented. The influence of factors such as the development of economics, level of motorization, inhabitant density and land use on the transport demand is evaluated. Analysis is performed on the basis of the theoretical expressions of inhabitant mobility and the information of practical investigations

Multicriteria analysis measurement of the road transport corridor impact on the environment

This paper describes how transport is one of the main branches of any economy without which the functioning of a modern economy is, in general, impossible. It ensures necessary economic links and joins all industrial units of a country into one whole, thus establishing the conditions for an economy to function coherently and efficiently. Thus, transport is an important branch of an economy. However, its infrastructure expansion needs high levels of investment. This is why investment projects for the development of the transport structure have to be thoroughly selected and their implementation has to ensure sufficient efficiency. Taking into account that transport generates a number of adverse effects from both transport infrastructures and vehicles, the indirect ones – environmental influences might be included into the group – may have even greater consequences on society than its direct effects

EVALUATING THE URBAN PUBLIC TRANSIT NETWORK BASED ON THE ATTRIBUTE RECOGNITION MODEL

    No full text
The aim of this paper is to propose an attribute recognition model, so that it can be used to simultaneously estimate the public transit network system. Based on the analysis of a variety of factors influencing the public transit network, quantitative research has been conducted with reference to the attribute recognition theory in order to make scientific decision-making. On the basis of defining attribute measure, this paper presents the attribute recognition model suggesting the attribute recognition theory that can be used to evaluate the public transit network. The reliability of the new method can be explained using real data of the survey on the public transit network in China. The applied results offer scientific reference for instructing and controlling urban traffic by the Government. The main advantages of the new model are in contexts where internal linkage and shared inputs between activities can be considered. The structure of this mode is more realistic than that of the conventional one
