Teachers’ acceptance and use of digital learning environments after hours : implications for work-life balance and the role of integration preference
While a growing number of teachers use information and communication technology (ICT) for work tasks outside the formal working hours and premises, research is inconclusive how this relates to their work-life balance. Following calls to examine the antecedents and moderating mechanisms of such behavior, the present study aims to examine how technology acceptance relates to work-related ICT use after hours (WIA) and work-life balance, as well as how employees' integration preference affects these relationships. Data was collected among 288 secondary school teachers in Flanders (Belgium) concerning their use of digital learning environments (DLE) beyond school grounds and school hours. Structural equation modelling shows that social influence reduces teachers' work-life balance mediated by WIA. While there was no support for other technology acceptance factors or the moderating role of integration preference, performance expectancy of the DLE and integration preference were associated with a higher work-life balance. Hereby, this study contributes to research on WIA by integrating the technology acceptance framework with boundary theory and work-life research. Overall, the findings show that DLE have an impact on teachers’ work-life balance independent of technological factors or their personal preference, underscoring the importance of school policies that cement the use of DLE in the private domain
Successful surgical repair of a temporal and parietal bone fracture with associated traumatic brain injury in a fourteen-day-old foal = Succesvolle chirurgische behandeling van een os temporale en parietale fractuur met bijhorende hersenschade bij een twee weken oud veulen
A fourteen-day-old warmblood colt presented with severe neurological signs of unknown origin. The foal was recumbent and comatose, and showed spastic motion of the head. Computed tomography (CT) examination revealed multiple impression fractures to the left parietal and temporal bones, as well as traumatic brain injury. Three fragments of the temporal bone were dislocated into the cranial vault. The foal was surgically treated within 24 hours of presentation: the fragments were elevated and the largest fragment was fixated with an L-shaped titanium Matrix Midface 0.8 mm reconstruction plate. The brain injury resolved with medical treatment and supportive care. Apart from a localized wound abscess that was drained, postoperative healing was uneventful and the foal regained the ability to ambulate 18 days after surgery. Follow-up CT imaging documented good fracture healing and a favorable development of the soft tissue injuries. Seven months after surgery, the foal was fully recovered and showed no neurological signs
The CORDEX.be initiative as a foundation for climate services in Belgium
The CORDEX.be project created the foundations for Belgian climate services by producing high-resolution Belgian climate information that (a) incorporates the expertise of the different Belgian climate modeling groups and that (b) is consistent with the outcomes of the international CORDEX ("COordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment") project. The key practical tasks for the project were the coordination of activities among different Belgian climate groups, fostering the links to specific international initiatives and the creation of a stakeholder dialogue. Scientifically, the CORDEX.be project contributed to the EURO-CORDEX project, created a small ensemble of High-Resolution (H-Res) future projections over Belgium at convection-permitting resolutions and coupled these to seven Local Impact Models. Several impact studies have been carried out. The project also addressed some aspects of climate change uncertainties. The interactions and feedback from the stakeholder dialogue led to different practical applications at the Belgian national level

Vanaf wanneer spreek je immers over (on)veiligheid?
