LEAKAGE CHARACTERISTICS OF OPENINGS FOR REACTOR HOUSING COMPONENTS

Measurements were made of the air leakage rates through structural components that penetrate semicontainment reactor housing installations. Full- sized test specimens were sealed inside a 10-ft-diameter test sphere, and the leakage rate was measured as a function of pressure for pressure differentials of up to 25 in. of water. The data were fitted to empirical equations that describe the leak rate at any pressure differential within the range of the experimental tests. The forms of the equations are such that the total leak rate of a building can be obtained by summing the empirical constants and multiplying by a probable pressure differential. (auth

Concurrent Occurrence of Mucocele and Pyogenic Granuloma

A mucocele is a common, benign lesion of the oral cavity that develops following the extravasation or retention of mucous from a major or minor salivary gland. A pyogenic granuloma (PG) is also a common, benign condition characterized by proliferating capillaries that affect the skin and mucous membranes. The concurrent occurrence of a mucocele and a PG lesion has rarely been reported in the medical literature. This case study reports such a finding in a 16-year-old patient who presented to our department

Abstract

Background

Mucoceles are benign lesions related to the minor salivary glands and their respective ducts frequently affecting oral structures which are generally asymptomatic. Mucoceles are generally characterized by swollen nodular lesions preferentially located on the lower lip and differ from the so-called ranulas, which are lesions located on the floor of the mouth and related to the sublingual or submandibular glands.

Methods

The objective of the present study was to analyze data such as age, gender, race and site of the lesion of 173 mucocele cases diagnosed at the Discipline of Stomatology, São José dos Campos Dental School, UNESP, over a period of 24 years (April 1980 to February 2003).

Results

Of the 173 cases analyzed, 104 (60.12%) were females and 69 (39.88%) were males. Age ranged from 4 to 70 years (mean ± SD: 17 ± 9.53) and most patients were in the second decade of life (n = 86, 49.42%); white (n = 124, 71.68%). The lower lip was the site most frequently affected by the lesions (n = 135, 78.03%), whereas the lowest prevalence was observed for the soft palate, buccal mucosa, and lingual frenum.

Conclusion

In this study, mucoceles predominated in white female subjects in the second decade of life, with the lower lip being the most frequently affected site.</p

RADIOISOTOPIC INVESTIGATION OF OMR COOLANTS. PART I. OMRE OPERATION, JANUARY 1958-AUGUST 1960

Over 30 radioisotopes were identified in the coolant of the OMRE during the period from January, l958 through August, l960. The principal gamma-emitting isotopes measured were the corrosion products: Mn/sup 56/, Fe/sup 59/ and Mn/sup 54/ the principal beta emitters were: P/sup 32/, H/sup 3/,S/sup 35/, Fe/sup 55/, and C/sup 14/. The total (gamma plus beta) activity of the coolant during normal reactor operations was estimated to have been less than l.08 mu c/gm of coolant, with Mn/sup 56/ contributing approximately 80% of the detected process radiation.
