Knowledge About the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Among Employees at a Tertiary Cancer Center: Room for Improvement
Introduction: The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for routine vaccination of boys and girls to protect against HPV-related cancers and genital warts. To meet the Healthy People 2020 target for HPV vaccination, health care providers must understand the importance of strongly recommending the HPV vaccine to all eligible adolescents. We sought to determine HPV vaccination patterns among employees at a tertiary cancer center and their children and attitudes regarding HPV vaccination among the employees.
Methods: All employees at a tertiary cancer center were invited to participate in a cross-sectional survey administered online during July and August 2015. The survey included questions about HPV vaccination of participants and their children, including reasons why vaccine-eligible employees and children had not been vaccinated.
Results: Of those eligible, 13% of male and 33% of female employees and 44% of daughters and 24% of sons of employees had completed the vaccine series. The main reasons for not completing the series or not having one’s son completing the series were not knowing that the vaccine was needed and vaccine not recommended by a health care provider. The main reasons for not having one’s daughter complete the series were the two aforementioned reasons and daughter not yet sexually active.
Conclusion: Opportunities exist to educate health care workers about the benefits of the HPV vaccine and to increase the number of providers who recommend HPV vaccination to their patients
3C236: Radio Source, Interrupted?
We present new HST STIS/MAMA near-UV images and archival WFPC2 V and R band
images which reveal the presence of four star forming regions in an arc along
the edge of the dust lane in the giant (4 Mpc) radio galaxy 3C236. Two of the
star forming regions are relatively young with ages of order 1E7 yr, while the
other two are older with ages of order 1E8 - 1E9 yr which is comparable to the
estimated age of the giant radio source. Based on dynamical and spectral aging
arguments, we suggest that the fuel supply to the AGN was interrupted for 1E7
yr and has now been restored, resulting in the formation of the inner 2 kpc
scale radio source. This time scale is similar to that of the age of the
youngest of the star forming regions. We suggest that the transport of gas in
the disk is non-steady and that this produces both the multiple episodes of
star formation in the disk as well as the multiple epochs of radio source
activity. If the inner radio source and the youngest star forming region are
related by the same event of gas transport, the gas must be transported from
the hundreds of pc scale to the sub-parsec scale on a time scale of 1E7 yr,
which is similar to the dynamical time scale of the gas on the hundreds of pc
scales
An optical-IR jet in 3C133
We report the discovery of a new optical-IR synchrotron jet in the radio
galaxy 3C133 from our HST/NICMOS snapshot survey. The jet and eastern hotspot
are well resolved, and visible at both optical and IR wavelengths. The IR jet
follows the morphology of the inner part of the radio jet, with three distinct
knots identified with features in the radio. The radio-IR SED's of the knots
are examined, along with those of two more distant hotspots at the eastern
extreme of the radio feature. The detected emission appears to be synchrotron,
with peaks in the NIR for all except one case, which exhibits a power-law

An infrared survey of brightest cluster galaxies: Paper I
We report on an imaging survey with the Spitzer Space Telescope of 62
brightest cluster galaxies with optical line emission. These galaxies are
located in the cores of X-ray luminous clusters selected from the ROSAT All-Sky
Survey. We find that about half of these sources have a sign of excess infrared
emission; 22 objects out of 62 are detected at 70 microns, 18 have 8 to 5.8
micron flux ratios above 1.0 and 28 have 24 to 8 micron flux ratios above 1.0.
Altogether 35 of 62 objects in our survey exhibit at least one of these signs
of infrared excess. Four galaxies with infrared excesses have a 4.5/3.6 micron
flux ratio indicating the presence of hot dust, and/or an unresolved nucleus at
8 microns. Three of these have high measured [OIII](5007A)/Hbeta flux ratios
suggesting that these four, Abell 1068, Abell 2146, and Zwicky 2089, and
R0821+07, host dusty active galactic nuclei (AGNs). 9 objects (including the
four hosting dusty AGNs) have infrared luminosities greater than 10^11 L_sol
and so can be classified as luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs). Excluding the
four systems hosting dusty AGNs, the excess mid-infrared emission in the
remaining brightest cluster galaxies is likely related to star formation.Comment: accepted for publication in ApJ
Implementing universal and targeted policies for health equity: lessons from Australia
ePublished: 9 November 2021Background: Debate continues in public health on the roles of universal or targeted policies in providing equity of access to health- related goods or services, and thereby contributing to health equity. Research examining policy implementation can provide fresh insights on these issues. Methods: We synthesised findings across case studies of policy implementation in four policy areas of primary healthcare (PHC), telecommunications, Indigenous health and land use policy, which incorporated a variety of universal and targeted policy structures. We analysed findings according to three criteria of equity in access – availability, affordability and acceptability – and definitions of universal, proportionate-universal, targeted and residual policies, and devolved governance structures. Results: Our analysis showed that existing universal, proportionate-universal and targeted policies in an Australian context displayed strengths and weaknesses in addressing availability, affordability and acceptability dimensions of equity in access. Conclusion: While residualist policies are unfavourable to equity of access, other forms of targeting as well as universal and proportionate-universal structure have the potential to be combined in context-specific ways favourable to equity of access to health-related goods and services. To optimise benefits, policies should address equity of access in the three dimensions of availability, affordability and acceptability. HST NIR Snapshot Survey of 3CR Radio Source Counterparts II: An Atlas and Inventory of the Host Galaxies, Mergers and Companions
We present the second part of an H-band (1.6 microns) atlas of z<0.3 3CR
radio galaxies, using the Hubble Space Telescope Near Infrared Camera and
Multi-Object Spectrometer (HST NICMOS2). We present new imaging for 21 recently
acquired sources, and host galaxy modeling for the full sample of 101
(including 11 archival) -- an 87% completion rate. Two different modeling
techniques are applied, following those adopted by the galaxy morphology and
the quasar host galaxy communities. Results are compared, and found to be in
excellent agreement, although the former breaks down in the case of strongly
nucleated sources. Companion sources are tabulated, and the presence of
mergers, tidal features, dust disks and jets are catalogued. The tables form a
catalogue for those interested in the structural and morphological dust-free
host galaxy properties of the 3CR sample, and for comparison with morphological
studies of quiescent galaxies and quasar host galaxies. Host galaxy masses are
estimated, and found to typically lie at around 2*10^11 solar masses. In
general, the population is found to be consistent with the local population of
quiescent elliptical galaxies, but with a longer tail to low Sersic index,
mainly consisting of low-redshift (z<0.1) and low-radio-power (FR I) sources. A
few unusually disky FR II host galaxies are picked out for further discussion.
Nearby external sources are identified in the majority of our images, many of
which we argue are likely to be companion galaxies or merger remnants. The

Powerful Radio-Loud Quasars are Triggered by Galaxy Mergers in the Cosmic Bright Ages
While supermassive black holes are ubiquitous features of galactic nuclei,
only a small minority are observed during episodes of luminous accretion. The
physical mechanism(s) driving the onset of fueling and ignition in these active
galactic nuclei (AGN) are still largely unknown for many galaxies and
AGN-selection criteria. Attention has focused on AGN triggering by means of
major galaxy mergers gravitationally funneling gas towards the galactic center,
with evidence both for and against this scenario. However, several recent
studies have found that radio-loud AGN overwhelmingly reside in ongoing or
recent major galaxy mergers. In this study, we test the hypothesis that major
galaxy mergers are important triggers for radio-loud AGN activity in powerful
quasars during cosmic noon (1 < z < 2). To this end, we compare Hubble Space
Telescope WFC3/IR observations of the z > 1 3CR radio-loud broad-lined quasars
to three matched radio-quiet quasar control samples. We find strong evidence
for major-merger activity in nearly all radio-loud AGN, in contrast to the much
lower merger fraction in the radio-quiet AGN. These results suggest major
galaxy mergers are key ingredients to launching powerful radio jets. Given many
of our radio-loud quasars are blue, our results present a possible challenge to
the "blow-out" paradigm of galaxy evolution models in which blue quasars are
the quiescent end result following a period of red quasar feedback initiated by
a galaxy merger. Finally, we find a tight correlation between black hole mass
and host galaxy luminosity for these different high-redshift AGN samples
inconsistent with those observed for local elliptical galaxies.Comment: Published by Ap
