    The Topological Non-connectivity Threshold and magnetic phase transitions in classical anisotropic long-range interacting spin system

    We analyze from the dynamical point of view the classical characteristics of the Topological Non-connectivity Threshold (TNT), recently introduced in F.Borgonovi, G.L.Celardo, M.Maianti, E.Pedersoli, J.Stat.Phys.,116,516(2004).     Between 1981 and 1995, we published five bibliographic lists (López et al., 1981, 1982,1987, 1989 y 1995) that included the publications referred to Argentine freshwater fishes and related general information published since Ringuelet et al. (1967). We included Uruguayan papers until 1989, when it became apparent that our access to those materials was not complete. Other bibliographic collections were published on several subjects (López et al., 1991, 1993, y Ferriz et al., 1998). In the foreword to the 1995 list, López stated that it was difficult to assess the actual usefulness of the lists, since they were seldom quoted in research papers. This consideration, along with the wide success of electronic databases, caused us to discontinue the series, since its only goal had been to increase the knowledge and access to local research papers and foreign publications of interest to local researchers. Regrettably, our experience indicates that access to scientific literature is still, if not difficult, somewhat arbitrary. Apart from that, the continuous work on diverse research lines at División Zoología Vertebrados of Museo de La Plata leads to the accumulation of a multiplicity of information which may be sorted out for the use of others without much difficulty. At present, electronically-supported databases appear as the simplest way to do this. The future will show if this method is more efficient than the preceding one. In this issue we have included papers published between 1996 and 2002; and it is our purpose to update the list on a yearly basis. Papers included cover Argentine fish fauna and some related subjects of more general interest. Naturally, it is hardly surprising that some involuntary omissions will occur when addressing this subject. Any corrections and/or additions will be incorporated in following versions; and all information is most welcome

    Signature of a polyamorphic transition in the THz spectrum of vitreous GeO2

    The THz spectrum of density fluctuations, S(Q,ω)S(Q, \omega), of vitreous GeO2_2 at ambient temperature was measured by inelastic x-ray scattering from ambient pressure up to pressures well beyond that of the known α\alpha-quartz to rutile polyamorphic (PA) transition. We observe significant differences in the spectral shape measured below and above the PA transition, in particular, in the 30-80 meV range. Guided by first-principle lattice dynamics calculations, we interpret the changes in the phonon dispersion as the evolution from a quartz-like to a rutile-like coordination. Notably, such a crossover is accompanied by a cusp-like behavior in the pressure dependence of the elastic response of the system. Overall, the presented results highlight the complex fingerprint of PA phenomena on the high-frequency phonon dispersion.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure

    A global descriptor of spatial pattern interaction in the galaxy distribution

    We present the function J as a morphological descriptor for point patterns formed by the distribution of galaxies in the Universe. This function was recently introduced in the field of spatial statistics, and is based on the nearest neighbor distribution and the void probability function. The J descriptor allows to distinguish clustered (i.e. correlated) from ``regular'' (i.e. anti-correlated) point distributions. We outline the theoretical foundations of the method, perform tests with a Matern cluster process as an idealised model of galaxy clustering, and apply the descriptor to galaxies and loose groups in the Perseus-Pisces Survey. A comparison with mock-samples extracted from a mixed dark matter simulation shows that the J descriptor can be profitably used to constrain (in this case reject) viable models of cosmic structure formation.Comment: Significantly enhanced version, 14 pages, LaTeX using epsf, aaspp4, 7 eps-figures, accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journa

    Here, we present the draft genome sequence of strain UYCP14C, a rhizobium isolated from Calliandra parvifolia nodules. The assembled genome size was around 9.8 million bp, containing 9,031 predicted protein-coding sequences, including several symbiotic and nitrogen fixation genes. UYCP14C appears to be a novel species of the plant growth-promoting Paraburkholderia genus

    Clustering of loose groups and galaxies from the Perseus--Pisces Survey

    We investigate the clustering properties of loose groups in the Perseus--Pisces redshift Survey (PPS). Previous analyses based on CfA and SSRS surveys led to apparently contradictory results. We investigate the source of such discrepancies, finding satisfactory explanations for them. Furthermore, we find a definite signal of group clustering, whose amplitude AGA_G exceeds the amplitude AgA_g of galaxy clustering (AG=14.53.0+3.8A_G=14.5^{+3.8}_{-3.0}, Ag=7.420.19+0.20A_g=7.42^{+0.20}_{-0.19} for the most significant case; distances are measured in \hMpc). Groups are identified with the adaptive Friends--Of--Friends (FOF) algorithms HG (Huchra \& Geller 1982) and NW (Nolthenius \& White 1987), systematically varying all search parameters. Correlation strenght is especially sensitive to the sky--link DLD_L (increasing for stricter normalization D0D_0), and to the (depth \mlim of the) galaxy data. It is only moderately dependent on the galaxy luminosity function ϕ(L)\phi(L), while it is almost insensitive to the redshift--link VLV_L (both to the normalization V0V_0 and to the scaling recipes HG or NW).Comment: 28 pages (LaTeX aasms4 style) + 5 Postscript figures ; ApJ submitted on May 4th, 1996; group catalogs available upon request ([email protected]

    A New Generation of Hydrogen-Fueled Hybrid Propulsion Systems for the Urban Mobility of the Future

    The H2-ICE project aims at developing, through numerical simulation, a new generation of hybrid powertrains featuring a hydrogen-fueled Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) suitable for 12 m urban buses in order to provide a reliable and cost-effective solution for the abatement of both CO2 and criteria pollutant emissions. The full exploitation of the potential of such a traction system requires a substantial enhancement of the state of the art since several issues have to be addressed. In particular, the choice of a more suitable fuel injection system and the control of the combustion process are extremely challenging. Firstly, a high-fidelity 3D-CFD model will be exploited to analyze the in-cylinder H2 fuel injection through supersonic flows. Then, after the optimization of the injection and combustion process, a 1D model of the whole engine system will be built and calibrated, allowing the identification of a “sweet spot” in the ultra-lean combustion region, characterized by extremely low NOx emissions and, at the same time, high combustion efficiencies. Moreover, to further enhance the engine efficiency well above 40%, different Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) systems will be carefully scrutinized, including both Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC)-based recovery units as well as electric turbo-compounding. A Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) aftertreatment system will be developed to further reduce NOx emissions to near-zero levels. Finally, a dedicated torque-based control strategy for the ICE coupled with the Energy Management Systems (EMSs) of the hybrid powertrain, both optimized by exploiting Vehicle-To-Everything (V2X) connection, allows targeting H2 consumption of 0.1 kg/km. Technologies developed in the H2-ICE project will enhance the know-how necessary to design and build engines and aftertreatment systems for the efficient exploitation of H2 as a fuel, as well as for their integration into hybrid powertrains

    Free electron laser-driven ultrafast rearrangement of the electronic structure in Ti

    High-energy density extreme ultraviolet radiation delivered by the FERMI seeded free-electron laser has been used to create an exotic nonequilibrium state of matter in a titanium sample characterized by a highly excited electron subsystem at temperatures in excess of 10 eV and a cold solid-density ion lattice. The obtained transient state has been investigated through ultrafast absorption spectroscopy across the Ti M2,3-edge revealing a drastic rearrangement of the sample electronic structure around the Fermi level occurring on a time scale of about 100 fs
