Morphological and Fractal Characteristics of City Road Networks from Philippine Metropolitan Regions

City road networks evolve from the fundamental need to connect various locations and to subdivide available space, especially in large urban areas. No two cities are exactly the same, however, and the differences manifest themselves in the layout of roads across their geographical regions. In this work, the fractal dimensions of urban roads from the three major metropolitan regions of the Philippines were investigated, along with the distributions of dimensionless spatial metrics for characterizing roads and road-bounded blocks. The dimensionless metrics reveal the commonalities, particularly the road and block motifs found in the urban road network tapestry. On the other hand, the fractal dimensions hint at the difference in levels of urbanization of the various cities and municipalities, which are considered subject to geographical constraints. This research adds to the growing literature with a complexity perspective on urban systems by reporting on an archipelagic road network data set. From a practical perspective, this work is deemed to be a useful first step towards an even deeper quantitative analysis of these regional economic centers and its insights may be used for drafting effective policy measures for management and further development

Les systèmes de contrôle sont fréquemment décrits comme bloquant l'apprentissage organisationnel. La réalité est beaucoup plus complexe. Dans ce cadre, cet article tente de compléter le travail réalisé par Kloot (1997) en précisant, au travers d'une grille d'analyse, l'influence des outils de contrôle sur la remise en cause des moyens organisationnels et/ou des objectifs associés. La position choisie consiste, dans le même contexte d'étude à savoir une collectivité locale, à prendre particulièrement en compte l'aspect politique, plus concrètement l'influence de l'élu, élément fondamental tant il peut remettre en cause l'intérêt, mais aussi la rationalité des outils de contrôle.contrôle; apprentissage organisationnel; collectivité locale; étude de cas

La gestion par les processus dans la banque : de l'intention à la mise en oeuvre

La gestion par les processus a connu son heure de gloire dans le secteur industriel, confronté à un environnement en perpétuelle évolution où réactivité et flexibilité sont les maîtres mots. Les banques françaises s'inscrivent aujourd'hui dans ces mêmes problématiques. Pourtant, l'étude de cas présentée dans cet article, au travers de l'analyse critique de la mise en place d'un processus au sein d'une banque régionale de détail, expose la difficulté pour les groupes d'acteurs impliqués dans cette démarche à mettre en œuvre des leviers d'action visant une réorganisation, même mineure, des structures ; ceux-ci adoptant au final une attitude plutôt conservatrice des logiques bureaucratiques ancrées depuis de nombreuses années. Ce cas nous enseigne alors la difficile mise en œuvre de la transversalité dans les organisations bancaires.Management par les processus; Banque; Transversalité; Recherche-action.

The effectiveness of mental health services among individuals with hoarding syndrome

The purpose of this project was to look further into the lives of hoarders and determine whether mental health services were being utilized and whether the current methods were effective. It is hoped that a movement to find more models of treatment, mental health interventions, and resources in general for individuals with this illness will be implemented
