Complementary stereotyping of ethnic minorities predicts system justification in Poland

We investigate the phenomenon of complementary stereotyping of ethnic minorities in Poland and its relationship to system justification. Using results from a nationally representative survey we test the hypothesis that complementary stereotypes—according to which ethnic minorities are seen as possessing distinctive, offsetting strengths and weaknesses—would be associated with system justification among Polish majority citizens. For four minorities, results indicated that stereotyping them as (a) low in morality but high in competence or (b) high in morality but low in competence predicted greater system justification. These results suggest that even in a context that is low in support for the status quo, complementary stereotyping of ethnic minorities is linked to system justification processes. For the three minority groups that were lowest in social status, complementary stereotyping was unrelated to system justification. It appears that negative attitude towards these groups can be expressed openly, regardless of one’s degree of system justification

Personality and psychomotor factors of success in drivinglicence tests

Artykuł podejmuje problem skuteczności egzaminacyjnej u kandydatów na kierowców w powiązaniu z czynnikami psychomotorycznymi i psychologicznymi. Badaniami zostali objęci kandydaci na prawo jazdy ozróżnicowanym poziomie skuteczności w zakresie zdawania egzaminów. Przeprowadzone badania obejmowały: własności psychomotoryczne, funkcjonowanie poznawcze, a także czynniki osobowościowe z uwzględnieniem poziomu samooceny i strategii radzenia sobie ze stresem. Prowadzone analizy miały na celu sprawdzenie jaką role w powodzeniu lub niepowodzeniu na egzaminie odgrywają czynniki psychologiczne związane z kandydatami na kierowców. Wymiar aplikacyjny przeprowadzonych badań odnosi się do projektowania rekomendacji w zakresie skuteczność diagnozy przyszłych kierowców, a także do opracowania systemu wsparcia psychologicznego dla kandydatów na kierowców. Badania prowadzono we współpracy z Wojewódzkim Ośrodkiem Ruchu Drogowego w Lublinie.This article refers to the problems of the effectiveness of the examination of candidates for drivers in conjunction with psychomotor and psychological factors. The candidates for driving licensewith different levels of effectiveness in exams took parts in research. We studied: psychomotorproperties, cognitive, and personality factors with the level of self-esteem and coping with stressstrategies. The analyzes were to examine what role in the success or failure of the exam psychological factors associated with the candidates for the drivers played. Application dimension of the research referred to the design recommendations for the diagnosis of future driver’s effectiveness as well as to develop a system of psychological support for candidates for drivers. Anastomozujący system górnej Narwi, NE Polska

The studied section of the upper Narew river is an example of an anastomosing system. It consists of a network of interconnected channels and interchannel areas covered with peat-forming rush and reed vegetation. The channels have low longitudinal gradient, are laterally stable, relatively deep, they have sandy bed and strongly overgrown banks. There are no natural levees built of clastic sediment. Straight-type channels dominate in the channel system. Meandering reaches lack discernible point bar topography. Vegetation plays an important role in the evolution of the anastomosing system of the Narew.Badany odcinek Narwi jest przykładem systemu rzeki anastomozującej. Składa się on z sieci rozdzielających się i ponownie łączących się koryt oraz z obszarów pozakorytowych, porośniętych roślinnością torfotwórczą. Koryta mają mały spadek, są stosunkowo głębokie i lateralnie stabilne, a ich brzegi są silnie zarośnięte. Większość koryt ma stosunkowo niewielką krętość, ale podrzędnie występują także odcinki kręte, typu meandrującego, pozbawione jednak dostrzegalnych łuków przyrostowych, charakterystycznych dla topografii odsypów meandrowych. Brak jest wyraźnie rozwiniętych wałów przykorytowych zbudowanych z materiału klastycznego. Roślinność odgrywa znaczącą rolę w rozwoju omawianego systemu

Results of the first GPS measurement campaign for the determination of absolute vertical and horizontal deformations in the Main and Old City of Gdansk

The results of GPS static measurements, conducted in the first measurement campaign at the reference and check points should be adopted as the values of reference for future observation results. The measurement procedures, developed for the first campaign, should be followed in further measurements. The measurement equipment (pole for forced centring of a GPS aerial, GPS aerial, GPS receiver) assigned to each point during the first campaign, should be used each time at the check points. The same calculation procedure should be followed in the analysis of the GPS observation data in future measurement campaigns. If the need to change the calculation procedure is justified, the calculations from previous measurement campaigns should be absolutely redone

Determination of coordinates of control points in the Wieruszów District area

W pracy przedstawiono metodykę pomiaru i opracowania osnowy szczegółowej GPS III na obszarze powiatu wieruszowskiego. Pomiary 988 punktów wykonano metodą statyczną w ciągu dziesięciu dni z wykorzystaniem 12 odbiorników GPS Ashtech Z-XII, Z-Surveyor, Z-Xtreme. W pracy przedstawiono także analizy wyrównania i transformacji z układu ETRF-89 do państwowych układów współrzędnych: "1965" i "2000". Z uwagi na liczne zasłony drzew nad wyznaczanymi punktami, obserwacje GPS powtórzono na około trzydziestu punktach, aby uzyskać wymaganą dokładność i niezależną kontrolę pomiarów. Dodatkowo przy takiej liczbie odbiorników bardzo skuteczne okazały się analizy zamknięć przyrostów w trójkątach jak również warunki geometryczne nieoznaczoności pomiarów fazowych stosowane przy rozwiązaniach multistacyjnych.The paper presents the methodology of GPS measurements and data elaboration for control points in the Wieruszów District area. GPS measurements of 988 points were executed with the use of static method during ten days of measurements and twelve GPS receivers of Ashtech company i.e. Z-XII, Z-Surveyor, Z-Xtreme. The results and analyses of adjustment and transformation from ETRF-89 to the national coordinate systems: ,,1965" and ,,2000" were also presented. Due to bad observational conditions of GPS measurements there were about thirty points on which GPS measurements were repeated in order to achieve reliable and accurate results. Additionally, loop closures of baselines and geometric conditions of ambiguity network solutions were successfully useful before final adjustment
