Electric cars are rapidly gaining popularity across the United States because they are environmentally friendly. The problem is that the United States does not have enough infrastructure to support the number of electric cars expected to be purchased in the next decade. This project strove to fix that problem by converting an old gas station to an electric car charging station that doubled as a roadside attraction. Pit Stop functions as a charging station, a restaurant, and an exercise/play area for families to stretch their legs between drives. All the parking spots come equipped with an electric car charging unit, so there will always be space available. Located on top of the canopy that covers the cars is a classic American grill that the whole family can enjoy entitled The Grill. The restaurant features standard tables for families in a rush, or if the family has extra time, they can have their food grilled in front of them. On the backside of the lot located away from the street traffic is exercise space for adults and a play area for kids. Since this project caters to a family on a road trip, including space to burn off energy before getting back in the car is vital. The structure of the building is a combination of 2 systems. The first is a timer beam system that supports the floor from below, and the second is a steel cable system that pulls up from above. These two systems together keep the canopy and restaurant in tension and stable

Globotriaosylceramide is correlated with oxidative stress and inflammation in Fabry patients treated with enzyme replacement therapy

AbstractFabry disease is an X-linked inborn error of glycosphingolipid catabolism due to deficient activity of α-galactosidase A that leads to accumulation of the enzyme substrates, mainly globotriaosylceramide (Gb3), in body fluids and lysosomes of many cell types. Some pathophysiology hypotheses are intimately linked to reactive species production and inflammation, but until this moment there is no in vivo study about it. Hence, the aim of this study was to investigate oxidative stress parameters, pro-inflammatory cytokines and Gb3 levels in Fabry patients under treatment with enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) and finally to establish a possible relation between them. We analyzed urine and blood samples of patients under ERT (n=14) and healthy age-matched controls (n=14). Patients presented decreased levels of antioxidant defenses, assessed by reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity and increased superoxide dismutase/catalase (SOD/CAT) ratio in erythrocytes. Concerning to the damage to biomolecules (lipids and proteins), we found that plasma levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and protein carbonyl groups and di-tyrosine (di-Tyr) in urine were increased in patients. The pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α were also increased in patients. Urinary Gb3 levels were positively correlated with the plasma levels of IL-6, carbonyl groups and MDA. IL-6 levels were directly correlated with di-Tyr and inversely correlated with GPx activity. This data suggest that pro-inflammatory and pro-oxidant states occur, are correlated and seem to be induced by Gb3 in Fabry patients

As methodologies for studying physiology with caregivers, we used conversation wheels, the EPWORTH Sleepiness Scale, anatomical molds of the digestive system, and intestinal constipation questionnaire in two 90-minute meetings. Nine caregivers participated in sleep physiology activities, and it was observed that 66.6% of respondents should take better care of their sleep or had an inadequate sleep. Regarding the physiology of the digestive system, 11 caregivers participated in the activities, and 20% were considered constipated. The study of sleep and digestive system physiology allowed caregivers to think about self-care, improving their well-being, and helped the extensionists to put the University's knowledge into practice. Palavras-chave: Ensino; Disseminação de informação; Educação em saúde Knowledge multipliers: Role of extension actions with caregivers of people with disabilities Abstract: For the university extension to occur, it is necessary to establish a target population to which extension actions will be directed. However, these actions tend to spread beyond the community by forming knowledge multipliers in the served population. This study aimed to report the experience of the contribution of extension actions beyond the target audience when working on health-related topics such as the use of medicinal plants and teas and Systemic Arterial Hypertension with caregivers of People with Disabilities (PwD). This extension project worked with fifteen caregivers of PwD based on themes suggested by them. In the medicinal plants and teas activity, the methodologies used were the box of myths and truths, conversation wheel, bingo game, and distribution of folders. For the activity on hypertension, we used "brainstorm," blood pressure measurement, and distribution of folders. These actions were carried out in 3 meetings between March and May 2019. As a result, 11 to 16 caregivers (one casual) and 2 to 3 employees from the partner institution participate in the meetings. It was observed that the active methodologies used were important for learning and fixing the contents addressed, according to the words of the caregivers themselves. The actions allowed the caregivers to share what they learned, taking this knowledge to friends and family, as well as the employees of the partner institution who participated, characterizing the contribution of the project beyond the target audience.
