Disorder-induced double resonant Raman process in graphene
An analytical study is presented of the double resonant Raman scattering
process in graphene, responsible for the D and D features in the
Raman spectra. This work yields analytical expressions for the D and
D integrated Raman intensities that explicitly show the dependencies
on laser energy, defect concentration, and electronic lifetime. Good agreement
is obtained between the analytical results and experimental measurements on
samples with increasing defect concentrations and at various laser excitation
energies. The use of Raman spectroscopy to identify the nature of defects is
discussed. Comparison between the models for the edge-induced and the
disorder-induced D band intensity suggests that edges or grain boundaries can
be distinguished from disorder by the different dependence of their Raman
intensity on laser excitation energy. Similarly, the type of disorder can
potentially be identified not only by the intensity ratio
, but also by its laser energy
dependence. Also discussed is a quantitative analysis of quantum interference
effects of the graphene wavefunctions, which determine the most important
phonon wavevectors and scattering processes responsible for the D and

Group Theory analysis of phonons in two-dimensional Transition Metal Dichalcogenides
Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have emerged as a new two
dimensional materials field since the monolayer and few-layer limits show
different properties when compared to each other and to their respective bulk
materials. For example, in some cases when the bulk material is exfoliated down
to a monolayer, an indirect-to-direct band gap in the visible range is
observed. The number of layers ( even or odd) drives changes in space
group symmetry that are reflected in the optical properties. The understanding
of the space group symmetry as a function of the number of layers is therefore
important for the correct interpretation of the experimental data. Here we
present a thorough group theory study of the symmetry aspects relevant to
optical and spectroscopic analysis, for the most common polytypes of TMDCs,
i.e. , and , as a function of the number of layers. Real space
symmetries, the group of the wave vectors, the relevance of inversion symmetry,
irreducible representations of the vibrational modes, optical selection rules

Closed trajectories of a particle model on null curves in anti-de Sitter 3-space
We study the existence of closed trajectories of a particle model on null
curves in anti-de Sitter 3-space defined by a functional which is linear in the
curvature of the particle path. Explicit expressions for the trajectories are

International gestational age-specific centiles for umbilical artery Doppler indices: a longitudinal prospective cohort study of the INTERGROWTH-21st Project.
BACKGROUND: Reference values for umbilical artery Doppler indices are used clinically to assess fetal well-being. However, many studies that have produced reference charts have important methodologic limitations, and these result in significant heterogeneity of reported reference ranges. OBJECTIVES: To produce international gestational age-specific centiles for umbilical artery Doppler indices based on longitudinal data and the same rigorous methodology used in the original Fetal Growth Longitudinal Study of the INTERGROWTH-21st Project. STUDY DESIGN: In Phase II of the INTERGROWTH-21st Project (the INTERBIO-21st Study), we prospectively continued enrolling pregnant women according to the same protocol from 3 of the original populations in Pelotas (Brazil), Nairobi (Kenya), and Oxford (United Kingdom) that had participated in the Fetal Growth Longitudinal Study. Women with a singleton pregnancy were recruited at <14 weeks' gestation, confirmed by ultrasound measurement of crown-rump length, and then underwent standardized ultrasound every 5±1 weeks until delivery. From 22 weeks of gestation umbilical artery indices (pulsatility index, resistance index, and systolic/diastolic ratio) were measured in a blinded fashion, using identical equipment and a rigorously standardized protocol. Newborn size at birth was assessed using the international INTERGROWTH-21st Standards, and infants had detailed assessment of growth, nutrition, morbidity, and motor development at 1 and 2 years of age. The appropriateness of pooling data from the 3 study sites was assessed using variance component analysis and standardized site differences. Umbilical artery indices were modeled as functions of the gestational age using an exponential, normal distribution with second-degree fractional polynomial smoothing; goodness of fit for the overall models was assessed. RESULTS: Of the women enrolled at the 3 sites, 1629 were eligible for this study; 431 (27%) met the entry criteria for the construction of normative centiles, similar to the proportion seen in the original fetal growth longitudinal study. They contributed a total of 1243 Doppler measures to the analysis; 74% had 3 measures or more. The healthy low-risk status of the population was confirmed by the low rates of preterm birth (4.9%) and preeclampsia (0.7%). There were no neonatal deaths and satisfactory growth, health, and motor development of the infants at 1 and 2 years of age were documented. Only a very small proportion (2.8%-6.5%) of the variance of Doppler indices was due to between-site differences; in addition, standardized site difference estimates were marginally outside this threshold in only 1 of 27 comparisons, and this supported the decision to pool data from the 3 study sites. All 3 Doppler indices decreased with advancing gestational age. The 3rd, 5th 10th, 50th, 90th, 95th, and 97th centiles according to gestational age for each of the 3 indices are provided, as well as equations to allow calculation of any value as a centile and z scores. The mean pulsatility index according to gestational age = 1.02944 + 77.7456*(gestational age)-2 - 0.000004455*gestational age3. CONCLUSION: We present here international gestational age-specific normative centiles for umbilical artery Doppler indices produced by studying healthy, low-risk pregnant women living in environments with minimal constraints on fetal growth. The centiles complement the existing INTERGROWTH-21st Standards for assessment of fetal well-being

An extreme [OIII] emitter at : a low metallicity Lyman continuum source
[Abridged] We investigate the physical properties of a Lyman continuum
emitter candidate at with photometric coverage from to MIPS
24m band and VIMOS/VLT and MOSFIRE/Keck spectroscopy. Investigation of the
UV spectrum confirms a direct spectroscopic detection of the Lyman continuum
emission with . Non-zero Ly flux at the systemic redshift and
high Lyman- escape fraction suggest a low HI column density. The weak C
and Si low-ionization absorption lines are also consistent with a low covering
fraction along the line of sight. The
[OIII] equivalent width is one of the
largest reported for a galaxy at
(, rest-frame) and the NIR spectrum shows that this is mainly due to an
extremely strong [OIII] emission. The large observed [OIII]/[OII] ratio ()
and high ionization parameter are consistent with prediction from
photoionization models in case of a density-bounded nebula scenario.
Furthermore, the
is
comparable to recent measurements reported at , in the reionization
epoch. We also investigate the possibility of an AGN contribution to explain
the ionizing emission but most of the AGN identification diagnostics suggest
that stellar emission dominates instead. This source is currently the first
high- example of a Lyman continuum emitter exhibiting indirect and direct
evidences of a Lyman continuum leakage and having physical properties
consistent with theoretical expectation from Lyman continuum emission from a

Avaliação de genótipos de feijão-caupi de porte semiprostrado na região Meio-Norte do Brasil.
O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar e selecionar genótipos de feijão-caupi de porte semiprostrado com base na produtividade de grãos e seus componentes. Foram avaliados 20 genótipos de feijão-caupi de porte semiprostrado em nove ambientes na região Meio-Norte do Brasil, no perÃodo de 2010 a 2011. Os caracteres avaliados foram: número de dias para o inÃcio da floração (NDIF), valor de cultivo (VC), acamamento (ACAM), comprimento de vagem (COMPV), número de grãos por vagem (NGV), peso de 100 grãos (P100G), Ãndice de grãos (IG) e produtividade de grãos (PG). Foram realizadas análises de variância conjunta dos ambientes e comparação das médias pelo teste Scott-Knott (P<0,05). Os genótipos apresentaram maior variabilidade para os caracteres NDIF, VC, COMPV, NGV e P100G. Embora os genótipos não tenham diferido para PG, a cultivar BRS Xiquexique obteve a maior média em valor absoluto.
