NR 33. Effect of phenolic compounds release from straw by ammonia treatment on fibrolytic microbial activity

    No full text
The effect of release of phenolic compounds promoted by ammonia treatment of straw on rumen microbial action over structural polysaccharides was studied. Samples of barley straw (PC) and ammoniated straw (PT) were incubated in the rumen of sheep fed on either untreated straw plus urea (PU) or PT. Phenolics were solubilized in a higher extent from PT than from PC. Microbial adhesion was higher in PT as substrate (P<.001), and also with PT diet (P<.05), showing that phenolics had little influence on attachment mechanisms. Total polysaccharidase activity was higher in PT as substrate, but there was a fermentation lag between 4 and 8 h, until phenolics become metabolised. Total and specific enzymatic activity were higher in PU diet, showing that phenolic release inhibits enzyme synthesis and hydrolytic activity

NR 34. In vitro fermentation of lignocellulosic forages using different sources and levels of carbohydrates as supplement

    No full text
The effect of the source and level of carbohydrate supplementation on microbial fermentation of roughages was studied in vitro by the gas production technique. Tested supplements (starch, A; pectin, P and cellulose, C) were included at 0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 % of the substrate (ammoniated straw, 200 mg) in duplicates. The amount of gas produced by the supplements themselves was substracted from the straw + supplement volume, according to the results of an additional set of incubation. Comparison among the effects of supplements was performed in pairs, in three sets of incubation. The higher amount of gas produced from straw was obtained with P (P<.05), whereas the effect of A was not different from C (P>.05). There was no negative response to increasing levels of P, but increases of A and C linearly reduced gas production from straw

Se sugieren unas recomendaciones pertinentes, tanto a estudiantes como a docentes, con la intensi贸n de minimizar la problem谩tica [email protected]@hotmail.comCuatrimestralThe objective of this paper is to identify factors that may hamper the process of translation of natural language into algebra. This is a quantitative research study with a quasiexperimental research design. A specific test (objective) of five items included a mathematics problem-solving question methodology, which was, in turn, based on the highschool mathematics syllabus. Results suggest that students are not skilled to translate natural language mathematics problems into algebraic expressions. Therefore, some relevant recommendations to teachers and students are made aiming at downgrading difficulties in this regard

Similar comportamiento se observ贸 con la PC (11,9%), excepto para el factor tiempo que no arroj贸 diferencias (P>0,05).513 - 516BimestralThe "dry ammoniation" method was developed at "La Esperanza" farm, University of Zulia, Venezuela, located in a dry tropical area, as a need to improve the quality of tropical hays without the humidity problems observed with the wet technique. The effect of storage time (14 and 21 days), water volume (200 and 400 ml/Kg hay) and urea quantity (20, 40 and 60 g/Kg hay) on the crude protein content (CP) and in vitro digestibility of NDF (NDFIVD) were studied using a factorial arrangement design (2x2x3) + one control (non treated hay) with three replications per treatment. Small hay bales of 0.8 Kg, made from several commercial hay bales of sorghum crop residue (Sorghum bicolor), were used as experimental units. The urea solutions were added into plastic containers (19 l) before placing the hay, leaving a space of 5-8 cm between the hay and the solution. Thereafter the containers were covered hermetically with a plastic sheet and stored under a roofed area. The "dry ammoniation" improved the CP (5.2 to 9.3%) as well as the NDFIVD (50.5 to 62.4%).The highest values of NDFIVD (67.6%) and CP (11.9%) were found with 21 day of storage, 400 ml of solution and 20 g urea/Kg hay

Continuous Daily Evapotranspiration with Optical Spaceborne Observations at Sub-Kilometre Spatial Resolution

    No full text
Evapotranspiration (ET) is a key parameter in the description of the energy and water fluxes over land. Continuous and spatially detailed ET simulations are thus required for a number of scientific and management-related purposes. These conditions are determined by the modelling approach and the composition of the forcing dataset. This study aimed at simulating daily ET in a diversity of climate and land cover conditions at a spatial resolution of ∼1 km and higher. The modelling approach was based on the algorithm driving the ET product developed and set in operations in the framework of the Satellite Application Facility on Land Surface Analysis programme (LSA-SAF). The implemented algorithm allowed the ingestion of biophysical parameters derived from SPOT-V and PROBA-V observations developed by the Copernicus Global Land Programme, as well as other model parameters at a similar spatial resolution. The model was tested at an ∼1 km spatial resolution in over 40 sites located in different climate and land cover contexts. The implementation at ∼300 m was tested in the upper Biebrza basin, in Poland. The simulations correlated well with the validation dataset (r2 > 0.75 in 80% of sites) and exhibited root mean squared values lower than 1 mm/day in 80% of the cases. The results also pointed to the need for refining the accuracy of soil moisture data sources, especially in dry areas. The results showed the ability of the modelling approach and the SPOT-V/PROBA-V missions to support the generation of long ET time series. They also opened the gate to incorporate Sentinel-3 in ET continuous modelling
