    Bacterial diversity and bioaugmentation in floodwater of a paddy field in the presence of the herbicide molinate

    This work aimed at studying variations on the diversity and composition of the bacterial community of a rice paddy field floodwater, subjected to conventional management, namely by using the herbicide molinate. The promotion of the herbicide biodegradation either by the autochthonous microbiota or by a bioaugmentation process was also assessed. This study comprehended four sampling campaigns at key dates of the farming procedures (seeding, immediately and 6 days after application of the herbicide molinate, and after synthetic fertilization) and the subsequent physic-chemical and microbiological characterization (pH, DOC and molinate contents, total cells, cultivable bacteria and DGGE profiling) of the samples. Multivariate analysis of the DGGE profiles showed temporal variations in the bacterial community structure and the Shannon's index values indicated that the bacterial diversity reached its minimum at the molinate application day. The highest bacterial diversity coincided with the periods with undetectable concentrations of the herbicide, although microcosm assays suggested that other factors than molinate may have been responsible for the decrease of the bacterial diversity. The ability of autochthonous microorganisms to degrade molinate and the influence of the herbicide on the bacterial community composition were assessed in microcosm assays using floodwater collected at the same dates. Given molinate was not degraded by autochthonous microorganisms, and considering it represents an environmental contaminant, bioaugmentation microcosms were assayed aiming the assessment of the feasibility of a bioremediation process to clean contaminated floodwater. A molinate-mineralizing culture, previously isolated, promoted molinate removal, induced alterations in the autochthonous bacterial community structure and diversity, and was undetected after 7 days of incubation, suggesting the feasibility of the process.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    Justiça Organizacional - Um Panorama da Produção Científica Brasileira

    The relevance of organizational justice for the improvement of the relationship between workers and organizations has given the theme a prominent role on the international stage in recent decades. In Brazil, discrepancies between national and foreign contributions were pointed out by the last review on the subject, in 2005. Thus, this study analyzed the Brazilian scientific production on organizational justice, focusing on the dimensions of the organizational justice, the theoretical background, and the relationships investigated. A semi-systematic literature review was carried out in 19 journals (1996-2018). The results showed significant differences between national and international production. A national research agenda is presented, highlighting the need for studies exploring the antecedents and the effects of the process of mediation and interaction of justice and a better theoretical foundation.A relevância da justiça organizacional para melhoria da relação entre trabalhadores e organizações conferiu ao tema destaque em cenário internacional nas últimas décadas. No Brasil, discrepâncias entre as contribuições nacionais e estrangeiras foram apontadas pela última revisão do tema, em 2005. Assim, buscando responder como as dimensões de justiça foram pesquisadas, baseadas em que teorias e quais as principais relações investigadas, este estudo analisou o desenvolvimento da produção científica brasileira sobre justiça organizacional. Realizou-se uma revisão semi-sistemática da literatura, em 19 periódicos (1996-2018). Os resultados evidenciaram diferenças significativas entre a produção nacional e internacional.     Um panorama do espaço ocupado pelas comédias brasileiras no mercado de cinema nacional

    Essa pesquisa pretende explorar o painel de desempenho em mercado de algumas comédias brasileiras, a partir da análise de dados como o market share, bilheteria, número de salas de exibição e diferentes formas de financiamento e comercialização dos filmes. O estudo percorre os diversos momentos da cinematografia nacional em que as comédias conseguiram se sustentar de forma competitiva no mercado, principalmente fazendo oposição ao produto estrangeiro. Diante de alguns entraves à realização da atividade cinematográfica, muitos filmes do gênero conseguiram acompanhar as transformações estruturais e representar apostas do setor, que enxergaram nos filmes de humor uma fórmula de sucesso já testado. A atuação de agentes do setor como a Globo Filmes, e as estrangeiras distribuidoras majors, e grupos de exibidores dos complexos multiplex, exerceram influência na carreira de muitos filmes de comédia. O surgimento do Fundo Setorial Audiovisual, e a atividade de distribuidoras nacionais, refletiram uma nova investida aos filmes de comédia que se proliferaram numa mais recente explosão do gênero. Através da participação desses agentes, e por meio de grandes investimentos na comercialização dos filmes, observou-se a aparição de blockbusters de comédia, que ocuparam lugares de relevância no market share de distribuição do mercado nacional. Além disso, os desempenhos dos filmes desse gênero são capazes de refletir as condições estruturais do setor e do mercado de cinema brasileiro

    Fermented foods have been used for several years all over the world, due to their unique nutritional characteristics and because fermentation promotes conservation and food security. More over, fermented foods and beverages have a strong impact on human gut microbiota. Papaya is the fruit of the Carica papaya plant, traditionally used as a medicinal fruit, but there are also references to the use of the fermented form of this fruit. The main purpose of this review is to provide an improved understanding of fermented papaya nutritional and health applications. A literature search was conducted in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Both in vitro and in vivo studies were included. According to the retrieved studies, fermented papaya has proven to be an excellent antioxidant and an excellent nutraceutical adjuvant in combined therapies against several diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, allergic reactions, anticancer activity, and anemias.     Fluorometric method based on molecular recognition solid-phase extraction for determination of riboflavin in milk and infant formula

    Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is involved in several biological processes, particularly in energy production, and it is acquired from food ingestion, principally from supplemented food during the first years of life. Therefore, a simple, fast and cost-effective high-throughput method for determination of riboflavin in milk and infant formula is proposed, based on selective extraction using commercially available molecularly imprinted polymers targeted to riboflavin, followed by direct fluorometric determination. Several aspects were studied, namely microplate assay conditions, the composition of eluting solution and the stability of riboflavin in the eluate. Hence, elution using 1% (v/v) acetic acid in methanol or in acetonitrile is recommended, followed by immediate analysis or solvent evaporation, with reconstitution and analysis within 24 h. The proposed method provided a LOD of 0.03 mg L−1, with working range for undiluted samples between 0.125 and 2 mg L−1, and sample throughput of 24 h−1.     Analysis of 17- β -estradiol and 17- α -ethinylestradiol in biological and environmental matrices — A review

    The estrogens 17-β-estradiol (E2) and 17-α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) are reported as highly endocrine-disrupting agents, being recently included in an EU watch list regarding emerging aquatic pollutants. Therefore, the monitoring of these chemicals in the different environmental compartments assumes great importance. Moreover, due to the possible adverse effects on living beings, their occurrence on animal tissues and fluids must also be addressed. In recent years, a significant number of studies have described and proposed different analytical methodologies to detect and/or quantify E2 and EE2 mostly in environmental aqueous samples, including sludge and sediments and also in biological matrices such as plasma and tissues. Taking into account the complexity of real matrices and that both estrogens are generally present at trace levels, the development of accurate and reliable techniques for their determination can be quite a challenge. The present review aims at describing the main characteristics of the analytical methods recently used for E2 and EE2 determination in environmental and biological samples. The steps for sample preparation such as analytes extraction, preconcentration and clean-up are discussed and the instrumental based analytical techniques are compared.     Analytical methods for quantification of tranexamic acid in biological fluids: A review

    Tranexamic acid (TXA) is a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine with antifibrinolytic properties. There is still a lack of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data concerning variable age groups undergoing surgeries with high blood loss. The optimum dose and administration schedules of TXA are still subject of research, aiming at a safe inhibition of fibrinolysis in the perioperative period. Hence, effective methods for determination of TXA in biological samples are needed. The aim of this review is to discuss the required sample treatment procedures and the analytical methods applied for quantification of TXA, focusing on selected derivatisation agents and internal standards. Methods comprising a separative step (GC, LC or CZE) coupled to spectrophotometric, fluorimetric and mass spectrometry detection were considered, showing a tendency for implementation of MS/MS methods in more recent reports.     Screening of antioxidant effect of spontaneous and bioinoculated with gluconobacter oxydans fermented papaya: a comparative study

    Fermented papaya is recognized as a nutraceutical with a diverse and rich composition. Fermentation of fruit with desirable microorganisms could be a strategy to improve the nutritional quality and profile of the fruit. Despite the popularity of fermented papaya, there is still a lack of knowledge on the effects of various fermentation parameters. The goal of this study was to screen the antioxidant and other properties of the products obtained through a variety of fermentation experiments, as well as the impact of adding Gluconobacter oxydans on their physicochemical properties. The strategies used to produce the fermented papaya extracts were spontaneous fermentation and bioinoculation with G. oxydans. Different fermentation tests were performed to measure pH, total soluble solids, reducing sugars, sodium pyruvate content, total phenolic content (TPC), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP). There was a decrease in TPC during spontaneous fer mentations (five assays). However, it can be observed that in the fermentation assays with G. ox ydans, there was an increase in TPC and antioxidant properties. The highest content of TPC was observed on the eighth day of P7 (260.18 ± 0.02 µg gallic acid equivalents· mL−1) which was fer mented with the bacteria and supplemented with glucose. Therefore, phenolic compounds in fer mented papaya were found to increase antioxidant capacity as a result of bioinoculation with G. oxydans.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
