Appraisal of MC2010 shear resistance approaches coupled with a residual flexural strength prediction model
In the present work the predictive performance of the two approaches proposed by
Model Code 2010 for the evaluation of the shear capacity of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC)
elements flexurally reinforced with conventional steel bars is assessed considering a database
(DBs) constituted by 80 FRC beams do not including conventional transverse reinforcements.
The accuracy of these shear models is evaluated by statistical analysis of the prediction ratio
between the experimental and estimated shear capacity of the beams of the DBs, and applying
the Demerit Points Classification approach for further information about the reliability of the
two approaches in design context. Due to the absence of the post-cracking experimental
characterization of the FRC used in several beams considered in the DBs, an approach was
developed for estimating the residual flexural strength parameters from the most relevant known
variables of steel fiber reinforcement mechanisms for concrete, namely the fiber volume and
aspect ratio, and the concrete compressive and tensile strength. The residual flexural strength
prediction model is assessed and its influence on the performance of the shear resistance models

This paper presents a series of tests performed in the Structural Technology Laboratory of the Escuela
de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos de Barcelona (Department of Construction Engineering) from the
Polytechnic University of Catalonia. The campaign included a series of tests of beams section "Double T" Self
Compacting Concrete of low strength (HAC-RM) and a parallel series using conventional concrete (HC) of the same
mechanical strength. Was observed compared to the structural behavior of shear beams with reinforced concrete and
prestressed reinforcement pretesa and postesa, and both continuous isostatic structures. The results show a lower
resistance to shear at SCC beams with frame steel active and passive. For beams with prestressed SCC and HC, the
shear strength values were similar.
similares
Variability of the bond and mechanical properties of self-compacting concrete
This main objective of this research is to evaluate the variability of the mechanical properties (compressive strength, modulus of elasticity
and tensile strength) and bond strength of the self-compacting concrete (SCC), with 50 MPa compressive strength at 28 days, varying
the maximum aggregate size and the SCC fluidity. The tests were made in 15 x 30 cm concrete cylinders and in beams standardized by
Rilem-Ceb-Fib (1973). In agreement with the obtained results, can be concluded that the variability of the self-compacting concrete is
small for the modulus of elasticity and for the compressive strength, but the tensile strength presented a significant variability due to the
failure mode. About the bond strength, the variability was small showing that the self-compacting concrete is reliable and possesses great potential for use in the civil construction.Peer Reviewe
