Nuclear Chiral Axial Currents and Applications to Few-Nucleon Systems
This Thesis is divided into three main parts. The first part discusses basic aspects of chiral effective field theory and the formalism, based on time ordered perturbation theory, used to to derive the nuclear potentials and currents from the chiral Lagrangians. The second part deals with the actual derivation, up to one loop, of the two-nucleon potential and one- and two-nucleon weak axial charge and current. In both derivations ultraviolet divergences generated by loop corrections are isolated using dimensional regularization. The resulting axial current is finite and conserved in the chiral limit, while the axial charge requires renormalization. A complete set of contact terms for the axial charge up to the relevant order in the power counting is constructed. The third part of this Thesis discusses two applications: (i) the calculation of the Gamow-Teller matrix element of tritium, used to constrain the single low-energy constant entering the axial current; (ii) the calculation of neutrino-deuteron inclusive cross sections at low energies. These results have confirmed previous predictions obtained in phenomenological approaches. These latter studies have played an important role in the analysis and interpretation of experiments at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory
MULTI-PURPOSE FLEXIBLE BODIES INTEGRATION INTO A METRO-VEHICLE MULTI-BODY SYSTEM
The aim of the thesis is to highlight the effects of bodies flexibility concerning the Running Dynamics requirements and the Structural requirements and how such aspects could be taken into account in an integrated design process focused on the optimization of the vehicle design in terms of Comfort, Safety, Track fatigue and Bogie frame design.
A simplified multi-body system of the vehicle has been developed utilizing the software SIMPACK and thanks to the interaction between SIMPACK module, FEMBS, and the commercial finite element softwares (e.g. I-DEAS as pre and post-processor and MSC NASTRAN as solver), the flexible bodies, as carbody, wheelset, bolster-beam and bogie-frame, have been implemented.
In the integration process of the flexible body into a multi-body system, a critical step is the reduction of the finite element model of the body to decrease the computational burden. For such reason an analytical verification, in order to validate the reduced FE-model with respect to the full FE-model, has been planned and implemented to provide the company with a powerful and useful design tool
Finite-volume matrix elements of two-body states
In this talk, we present a framework for studying structural information of
resonances and bound states coupling to two-hadron scattering states. This
makes use of a recently proposed finite-volume formalism to determine a class
of observables that are experimentally inaccessible but can be accessed via
lattice QCD. In particular, we shown that finite-volume two-body matrix
elements with one current insertion can be directly related to scattering
amplitudes coupling to the external current. For two-hadron systems with
resonances or bound states, one can extract the corresponding form factors of
these from the energy-dependence of the amplitudes.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, Proceedings of Lattice 201

BLIND: a set of semantic feature norms from the congenitally blind
Feature-based descriptions of concepts produced
by subjects in a property generation task are widely used in
cognitive science to develop empirically grounded concept
representations and to study systematic trends in such repre-
sentations. This article introduces BLIND, a collection of
parallel semantic norms collected from a group of congenital-
ly blind Italian subjects and comparable sighted subjects. The
BLIND norms comprise descriptions of 50 nouns and 20
verbs. All the materials have been semantically annotated
and translated into English, to make them easily accessible
to the scientific community. The article also presents a pre-
liminary analysis of the BLIND data that highlights both the
large degree of overlap between the groups and interesting
differences. The complete BLIND norms are freely available
and can be downloaded from

Deep Quantum Circuit Simulations of Low-Energy Nuclear States
Numerical simulation is an important method for verifying the quantum
circuits used to simulate low-energy nuclear states. However, real-world
applications of quantum computing for nuclear theory often generate deep
quantum circuits that place demanding memory and processing requirements on
conventional simulation methods. Here, we present advances in high-performance
numerical simulations of deep quantum circuits to efficiently verify the
accuracy of low-energy nuclear physics applications. Our approach employs
several novel methods for accelerating the numerical simulation including 1-
and 2-qubit gate fusion techniques as well as management of simulated
mid-circuit measurements to verify state preparation circuits. We test these
methods across a variety of high-performance computing systems and our results
show that circuits up to 21 qubits and more than 115,000,000 gates can be
efficiently simulated
