Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Neonatal stroke (NNS) incidence appears to be increasing over the last years. This is believed to be a consequence of diagnostic accuracy rather than a real amplification of this entity. Nowadays, NNS incidence is estimated to be 1:4000 full newborns.
CASE REPORT: Child with left middle cerebral artery territory infarction in which several thromboembolic risk factors were documented both in the child (neonatal sepsis and factor V Leiden) and his mother (lupus anticoagulant, pre-eclampsy and factor V Leiden).
CONCLUSIONS: This case supports the increasing evidence in recent reports that association of multiple prothrombotic risk factors (maternal and foetal) is present in NNS genesis. This way the authors agree that wide prothrombotic study may be of crucial interest in identifying subjacent thrombophilic disease, even when an exogenous risk factor is present.

Microfluidics at fibre tip for nanolitre delivery and sampling
Delivery and sampling nanolitre volumes of liquid can benefit new invasive surgical procedures. However, the dead volume and difficulty in generating constant pressure flow limits the use of small tubes such as capillaries. This work demonstrates sub-millimetre microfluidic chips assembled directly on the tip of a bundle of two hydrophobic coated 100 μm capillaries to deliver nanolitre droplets in liquid environments. Droplets are created in a specially designed nanopipette and propelled by gas through the capillary to the microfluidic chip where a passive valve mechanism separates liquid from gas, allowing their delivery. By adjusting the driving pressure and microfluidic geometry we demonstrate both partial and full delivery of 10 nanolitre droplets with 0.4 nanolitre maximum error, as well as sampling from the environment. This system will enable drug delivery and sampling with minimally invasive probes, facilitating continuous liquid biopsy for disease monitoring and in-vivo drug screening

A descoberta da molécula de hepcidina e a descrição e caracterização molecular da anemia ferropriva refratária ao ferro veio contrariar essa anterior convicção. Os autores apresentam os casos clínicos de duas doentes, primas em segundo grau, com diagnóstico de anemia ferropriva refratária ao ferro, com o objetivo de alertar para esta etiologia, aquando do diagnóstico de uma anemia ferropriva de etiologia desconhecida e refratária a terapêutica com ferro oral e endovenos

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Despite early dietary therapy, many patients with galactosemia show a neurodegenerative disease specially evident in speech impairment and movement disorders. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain, show cerebral white matter changes with hypomielinization bilateral and symetrical periventricular hypersignal in T2.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We presented clinical and neuroradiological data of seven children (3 to 12 years of age) with classical galactosemia. All had a typical presentation in neonatal period. Two children had normal development (10 and 12 years-old), four presented developmental delay (10, 7, 4 and 3 years-old), and one showed a dystonic cerebral palsy (kernicterus).
RESULTS: The brain MRI showed the typical involvement of white matter, in five children, and basal ganglia abnormalities in the kernicterus patient. Three patients are homozygous for Q188R mutation and two are compound heterozygous.
CONCLUSION: We found a positive correlation among developmental delay, white matter involvement and Q188R mutation

This article explores such problems, and analyses those (few) approaches to Instrumental Rationality that defy the Maximization thesis. Then, some clues for the understanding of Peassant Rationality are provided.Ao estudar a Racionalidade Camponesa, depara-se, sobretudo, com problemas do âmbito da Racionalidade Instrumental. Este artigo explora tais problemas, e analisa as (poucas) abordagens da Racionalidade Instrumental quo desafiam a tese da Maximização. Finalmente, são fornecidas algumas pistas para a compreensão da Racionalidade Camponesa

explanations: a breakdown of Lorentz invariance, the ``burst'' scenario,
new hadrons with masses of several GeV as primaries, and magnetic monopoles
with mass below GeV as primaries. I then describe in a little more

Integrating hydraulic modelling and GIS for wastewater systems management: a case study
The increasing costs related to operation and maintenance of urban wastewater systems has led to a special attention of utilities in promoting studies to address the key problem of water infiltration, inflow and improper connections entering the separate drainage networks. This is a common and hard to predict operational situation that needs to be identified and minimized as it negatively affects the managerial conditions of the network and the downstream wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) efficiency.
Management difficulties in separate drainage networks seldom occur when unexpected groundwater inflow, stormwater infiltration, and flows from improper connections enter into the dedicated sanitary sewer systems. Although the consequences that improper flows may have on wastewater systems are known, the problem is difficult to locate and quantify.
The use of modelling tools is of special relevance to the planning, management and rehabilitation of these types of systems, which can be very useful for: (i) evaluating the capacity of existing systems in real time; (ii) testing alternative solutions to solve problems detected; or testing different procedures to operate the systems in extreme events scenarios.
The implementation of mathematical models for determining the hydrodynamics behaviour of dry-weather and wet-weather flows in sewers was applied in a small urban wastewater network of the city of Braga in Portugal (Figure 1). The free user program US EPA SWMM was applied with the integration of GIS InterAqua information related to the wastewater collection system
