Microeconomic Aspects of Productivity Growth under Import Substitution: Turkey

This paper assesses the empirical relevance of "dynamic" factors in industrialization in developing countries. Using data from a sample of 91 firms, rates of growth of output per unit of input are calculated. It is shown that there is little basis, at least with regard to Turkish experience, to the notion that non-traditional industries are in some sense more "dynamic" than traditional industries.

Modeling of the Phase Noise in Space Communication Systems

Our work is focused on the investigation of an influence of an additive thermal noise and a multiplicative phase noise in space communication chains. The most important properties of both noise types are summarized. The main concern of this paper is on the multiplicative phase noise that is especially important in systems with the phase shift keying. The simulation procedure for modeling of a signal degraded by the multiplicative phase noise is described. One starts from the frequency domain, where noise properties are set up. Five basic phase noise types can be included. After a passing to the time domain, the final noisy signal is obtained. To prove the modeling correctness, two ways are used. Firstly, Allan variances are utilized as a time domain processing. Finally, for a comparison, the direct conversion formula from the frequency to the time domain is exploited. Created signal corrupted by the phase noise expresses the harmonic oscillator output signal. A pair of these oscillators, disturbed by different phase noise processes, is installed into a communication channel model and with its help, the simultaneous influence of both oscillators on the useful signal is examined. Results show a good coincidence with theoretical presumptions

Pregnancy-Associated Pyogenic Sacroiliitis: Case Report and Review

Background: Pyogenic sacroiliitis occurs infrequently during the peripartum period. Case: A case at our institution and a review of the literature were analyzed. A total of 15 cases were discovered. The onset of illness was during pregnancy (40% of cases), within 3 weeks postpartum (40%) or post-abortion (20%), and the presentation was usually acute (< 7 days in 67% of cases). Frequent manifestations included localized pain in the hips or buttock, sacroiliac joint tenderness and fever. Computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging revealed joint involvement in all cases tested. Microbiology was confirmed by blood (40%) or joint aspirate (75%), and most patients were treated with antibiotics. Surgical intervention took place in five cases. Pretermlabor was reported in only one case. All patients respondedwell to therapy without locomotive disability, and persistent pain was uncommon. Conclusion: Septic sacroiliitis should be considered in peripartum patients who present with fever and severe localized pain. Medical management is usually curative, and without an adverse effect on pregnancy
