    Self-diffusion and shear viscosity for the TIP4P/Ice water model

    With an ever-increasing interest in water properties, many intermolecular force fields have been proposed to describe the behavior of water. Unfortunately, good models for liquid water usually cannot provide simultaneously an accurate melting point for ice. For this reason, the TIP4P/Ice model was developed at targeting the melting point, and has become the preferred choice for simulating ice at coexistence. Unfortunately, available data for its dynamic properties in the liquid state are scarce. Therefore, we demonstrate a series of simulations aimed at the calculation of transport coefficients for the TIP4P/Ice model over a large range of thermodynamic conditions, ranging from T=245T=245 K to T=350T=350 K for the temperature and from p=0p=0 to p=500p=500 MPa for the pressure. We have found that the self-diffusion (shear viscosity) exhibits smaller (increased) values than TIP4P/2005 and experiments. However, rescaling the temperature with respect to the triple point temperature as in a corresponding states plot we find TIP4P/Ice compares very well with TIP4P/2005 and to experiment. Such observations allow us to infer that despite the different original purposes of these two models examined here, one can benefit from a vast number of reports regarding the behavior of transport coefficients for the TIP4P/2005 model and utilize them following the routine described in this paper

    Genus Claviger Preyssler, 1790 (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae) in the Low Beskid Mts. (Poland) – new sites and host affiliation

    In the area of Poland there occur two species of the genus: Claviger longicornis P.W.J. Müller, 1818 and Claviger testaceus Preyssler, 1790. Both species are rare in Poland. Beetles of the genus Claviger are specialized myrmecophiles and are dependent on their host ants throughout the whole life cycle. During the field research, which were conducted in the Low Beskid Mts. (South - Eastern Poland), new sites of both species were found. C. longicornis was recorded in a colony of Lasius sabularum (Bondroit, 1918) and this is the first record of this ant as host. In addition, population of this species in ant colony was extremely large and correlated in time with the presence of sexual generation of ants. Transfer of beetles into artificial nest of L. niger and an attempt of rearing in laboratory conditions was unsuccessfu and finished after 36 days. C. testaceus was recorded in a colony of Lasius flavus (Fabricius, 1781), which is the most common host of this species

    Pursuing colloidal diamond

    The endeavor to selectively fabricate cubic diamond is challenging due to the formation of competing phases such as its hexagonal polymorph or others possessing similar free energy. The necessity to achieve that is of paramount importance, since the cubic diamond is the only polymorph exhibiting a complete photonic bandgap making it a promising candidate in view of photonic applications. Herein, we demonstrate that due to the presence of external field and delicate manipulation of its strength we can attain the selectivity in the formation of cubic diamond in a one-component system comprised of designer tetrahedral patchy particles. The driving force of such phenomena is the structure of the first adlayer which is commensurate with (110) face of the cubic diamond. Moreover, after a successful nucleation event, once the external field is turned off, the structure remains stable, paving an avenue for a further post-synthetic treatment

    Electoral Agitation Data Set: The Use Case of the Polish Election

    The popularity of social media makes politicians use it for political advertisement. Therefore, social media is full of electoral agitation (electioneering), especially during the election campaigns. The election administration cannot track the spread and quantity of messages that count as agitation under the election code. It addresses a crucial problem, while also uncovering a niche that has not been effectively targeted so far. Hence, we present the first publicly open data set for detecting electoral agitation in the Polish language. It contains 6,112 human-annotated tweets tagged with four legally conditioned categories. We achieved a 0.66 inter-annotator agreement (Cohen's kappa score). An additional annotator resolved the mismatches between the first two improving the consistency and complexity of the annotation process. The newly created data set was used to fine-tune a Polish Language Model called HerBERT (achieving a 68% F1 score). We also present a number of potential use cases for such data sets and models, enriching the paper with an analysis of the Polish 2020 Presidential Election on Twitter.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, Language Resources and Evaluation Conferenc

    Increased risk profile in the treatment of patients with symptomatic degenerative aortic valve stenosis over the last 10 years

    Introduction: Currently, Cardiology Centres are overfilled with patients with degenerative aortic valve stenosis (DAS), usually eldery, with severe concommittant comorbidities, who are referred for further decisions and possible intervention. Aim: To evaluate changes in the risk profile of patients with severe DAS admitted to the cardiology department a decade ago compared with patients currently being admitted. Material and methods: We retrospectively evaluated all patients admitted with confirmed severe DAS, hospitalized during 2005–2006 (group I: 140 patients) and in 2016 (group II: 152 patients), admitted for aortic valve intervention. A standard transthoracic echocardiogram, cardiovascular symptom and risk factor distribution, perioperative risk with the logistic EuroSCORE II and STS mortality scores were obtained. Results: Patients in group II were significantly older (p < 0.001), had more cardiovascular risk factors, and more often presented with atrial fibrillation (27% vs. 11.4%, p = 0.001), renal impairment (34.9% vs. 22.8%; p = 0.024), severe lung disease (17.1% vs. 2.1%, p < 0.001), and extracardiac arteriopathy (40.1% vs. 17.8%, p < 0.001). The aortic valve area (AVA) (p = 0.356), mean-transvalvular pressure gradient (p = 0.215), and left ventricular ejection fraction (p = 0.768) were similar in both groups. However, the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension, severe mitral regurgitation, and low-flow, low-gradient DAS were 3.1-, 8.4- and 1.84-fold more frequent in group II than group I. The percentages of subjects with EuroSCORE II and STS scores ≥ 4% in 2005–2006 were 7.1% and 6.4%, as compared to 27% and 26.3% in 2016 (both p < 0.001). 22% of patients in 2016, as compared to 31% in 2005/2006, were considered ineligible for DAS intervention. Conclusions: In just a decade, the risk profile of patients admitted with DAS has increased hugely, mainly due to older age, accumulation of comorbidities and more advanced disease at presentation. Although transcatheter aortic valve intervention has expanded the indications for intervention in high-risk patients, the number of patients disqualified from interventional treatment remains high

    Morphological description of the alimentary tract of Geoicautricularia (Passerini, 1856) (Insecta, Hemiptera, Eriosomatinae)

    Existing literature data report the lack of stomach and crenated intestine in the aphid species Geoicasetulosa (Passerini, 1860), a representative of subfamily Eriosomatinae. This odd anatomical feature seemed remarkable, due to the presence of fully developed intestine in closely related genera and mutualistic relationship with ants of this genus. The study aimed at repeated anatomical research of Geoicautricularia (Passerini 1856), in order to confirm what seemed to be a generic feature. Standard histological methods were applied, with addition of oblique light microscopy, fluorescence microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy. The results indicated the existence of a fully developed intestine, with broad sac-shaped stomach and loops of the crenated intestine. The general anatomy of the alimentary tract of G. utricularia resembles that of other representatives of the tribe Fordini. Also well-developed rectal gland is present, most probably playing a role in modifying the carbohydrate composition of excreted honeydew

    Invertebrates in contemporary coniferous resins – an insight into the ecosystem?

    A study aiming at the description of invertebrate fauna trapped in contemporary, coniferous resins was undertaken in a mixed forest of Central Europe (Southern Poland). Resins were collected predominately from spruce (Picea abies), but also from pine (Pinus sylvestris) and larch (Larix decidua), the cadavers were extracted from the ethanol solution of resin. As many as 394 specimens were extracted, consisting mainly of insects, but also arachnids, crustaceans and single mollusc were found. Among the collected specimens, some were identified to species, and a few mutual, ecological interrelationships could be traced. Although the amount of collected resins is far from being comparable with the amount of particular types of amber studied in the world so far, the Discussion focuses on similarities and differences in insect inclusions composition in resins and known amber collections
