On the Origin of the -4.4 eV Band in CdTe(100)"
We calculate the bulk- (infinite system), (100)-bulk-projected- and
(100)-Surface-projected Green's functions using the Surface Green's Function
Matching method (SGFM) and an empirical tight-binding hamiltonian with
tight-binding parameters (TBP) that describe well the bulk band structure of
CdTe. In particular, we analyze the band (B--4) arising at --4.4 eV from the
top of the valence band at according to the results of Niles and
H\"ochst and at -4.6 eV according to Gawlik {\it et al.} both obtained by
Angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES). We give the first
theoretical description of this band.Comment: 17 pages, Rev-TEX, CIEA-Phys. 02/9
BCS-Universal Ratios within the Van Hove Scenario
The central result of BCS theory are the Universal Ratios which do not depend
on physical parameters of the superconductor under study. Several attempts have
been made to introduce the van Hove Scenario within BCS theory but in none of
them the Universal Ratios of conventional superconductivity appear to be a
number independent of parameters. This fact prevents the precise definition of
a deviation from the BCS value for a particular superconductor. This concept is
at the basis of several applications of BCS theory in characterizing
conventional superconductors. We define a system that constitutes a weak
coupling limit that retains the essential features of the high-Tc oxides and
which does not differ in any essential way from other models widely used in
generalizations of BCS theory to high-Tc superconductors. The difference is
that we found a natural way of dealing with the mathematics of the problem so
as to get Universal Ratios in the same sense as in conventional
superconductivity.Comment: 11 PAGES, NO FIGURES, REVTEX 3.
Mi Cuerpo, Nuestra Responsabilidad: Using Photovoice to describe the assets and barriers to sexual and reproductive health among Latinos in North Carolina
Latinos in North Carolina experience disparities in sexual and reproductive health. To identify and explore assets for and barriers to sexual and reproductive health in the Latino community, an academic-community partnership engaged community health workers (CHW) in Photovoice, a participatory qualitative research methodology. Five sessions were completed in which CHW agreed on photo assignments and discussed the photos. Themes included the role of men, cultural taboos, and the effect of undocumented immigrant status on access to resources. Findings were presented at a community forum. Building on the strengths of CHW to reduce barriers to sexual and reproductive health is a viable strategy to address disparities
Long-term cost-effectiveness of group unified protocol in the spanish public mental health system
The limited material and human resources available in the Spanish public mental health system, combined with the high prevalence of emotional disorders nowadays, makes it necessary to search for and implement other more cost-effective formats. The versatility of the Unified Protocol (UP) for the transdiagnostic treatment of emotional disorders allows its application in group format, which could be a cost-effective solution for the system. The aim of the present study is to investigate the cost-effectiveness of the UP applied in group format in specialized care units compared to the Treatment as usual (TAU) in the Spanish public mental health system over a 15-month time period. The sample of this study consisted of 188 patients, diagnosed with an emotional disorder, randomized to the UP condition in group format or to the TAU condition in individual format. The findings of this study have shown the same beneficial results for the participants with symptoms of anxiety and depression in both conditions and greater improvements in quality of life in the UP condition. Regarding cost-effectiveness results, at the 15-month follow-up, participants in the UP condition received a greater number of sessions, with a lower total economic cost compared to the TAU condition. Finally, reductions in the number of participants using antidepressants and a reduction in medication burden were found in the UP condition over time. The results of this study show that UP applied in a group format can be a cost-effectiveness solution for the Spanish public mental health system. Efficient state-based CRDTs by delta-mutation
CRDTs are distributed data types that make eventual consistency of a distributed object possible and non ad-hoc. Specifically, state-based CRDTs ensure convergence through disseminating the entire state, that may be large, and merging it to other replicas; whereas operation-based CRDTs disseminate operations (i.e., small states) assuming an exactly-once reliable dissemination layer. We introduce Delta State Conflict-Free Replicated Datatypes (δ-CRDT) that can achieve the best of both worlds: small messages with an incremental nature, disseminated over unreliable communication channels. This is achieved by defining δ-mutators to return a delta-state, typically with a much smaller size than the full state, that is joined to both: local and remote states. We introduce the δ-CRDT framework, and we explain it through establishing a correspondence to current state-based CRDTs. In addition, we present an anti-entropy algorithm that ensures causal consistency, and two δ-CRDT specifications of well-known replicated datatypes. This work is co-financed by the North Portugal Regional Operational Programme (ON.2, O Novo Norte), under the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), within project NORTE07-0124-FEDER-000058; and by EU FP7 SyncFree project (609551)
Most of rotational disorders of extremities during
childhood are usually functional, and its natural history is
spontaneous correction. Sometimes, surgery is indicated
when a pathological persistent rotational disorder increase,
or may induce disability, or is cosmetically unacceptable for
patient and its family. The author’s experience in rotational
osteotomies during childhood by using external fixation is
presented
