    The Replacement of Maize with graded level of Brewer’s Dried Grain (BDG) in the diet of weaner grasscutters

    A 40 Day feeding trial was conducted to determine the effect of replacing maize with brewer’s dried grain (BDG) in the diet of grass cutter. 20 growing grass cutter (males) with an average initial weight of 599 g were used for the experiment. Four grass cutter were allotted to each treatment in a completely randomized design. The body weight gain, feed efficiency ratio and protein efficiency ratio were recorded weekly. The result of the experiment showed that the control with 0% level of BDG had the highest feed conversion (1.51) and efficiency (0.66) ratios while the least feed conversion (3.95) and efficiency (0.25) ratios were recorded for treatment 5 (100% BDG inclusion). There was not significant difference (P < 0.05) in feed intake among the treatments means. However the body weight gain differed significantly (P < 0.05). It was concluded that BDG can be used to replace maize in the diet of grass cutters up to 75% level of inclusion without negative effect on the performance of grass cutters.     The article explores the political dynamics that explain the rapidity of the impeachment processes and resignation of Nigeria’s Senate presidents in the Fourth Republic. By means of narrative analysis and utilising content-analysis of primary and secondary sources, gathered from fieldwork in Lagos and Abuja, the article captures the crisis-ridden character of the Nigerian Senate from 1999 to 2007. This article probes the elements of corruption, intra-elite struggle and the dimensions of legislative-executive conflict in the determination of the internal power struggle and leadership instability within the Nigerian Senate (1999–2007) and concludes with the need to address the problem of poor representation in Parliament

    Bacteria and fungi isolated from housefly (Musca domestica L.) larvae

    Housefly larvae were cultured on fresh fish and collected for the isolation and identification of microorganisms associated with them. The microbes were cultured from both the gut and body surface of the maggot on nutrient agar (for bacteria) and potato dextrose agar (for fungi) and incubated at about 37&#176C for 48 h before observations. A variety of microorganisms, which includes the pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aerruginosa, Aspergillus tamarii and Bacullus cereus were found.     Emergence of drug-resistant microorganisms over the past few decades has resulted in the search for bioactive compounds potent against these microorganisms. Phytochemicals derived from plants have shown positive curative properties and can be extracted from any part of the plant such as the roots, stem or flower. Bitter apple (Citrullus colocynthis) has been used traditionally for the treatment of infectious diseases and this has stimulated pharmacological interest in the active ingredients responsible for its medicinal properties. The plant also possesses several biological and pharmacological activities including anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, anticancer, and antioxidant.     Effects of managerial skills required in entrepreneurship among undergraduates in Oyo State, Nigeria

    Nigeria must pay attention to the growth of entrepreneurship in order to move out of the disturbingly high level of unemployment and poverty. Therefore, entrepreneurship education is one of the most promising strategies for rescuing the country from the burden of poverty and youth unemployment. Taking cognizance of this fact, this study examined the effects of the managerial skills among university undergraduates of Agriculture in Oyo State, Nigeria. Following a survey research design, data was collected from a sample of 120 respondents. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics. The findings were that there is no significant difference in the mean responses of males and females on the managerial skills required for entrepreneurship. It is recommended that government changes the way it perceives entrepreneurial activities; reduces the administrative burden on entrepreneurs; and provides adequate funds to Universities to enable them to establish and equip entrepreneurial development centres.Keywords: BTVET; Agriculture; Curriculum innovatio

    Comparative Microbiological and Physicochemical analysis of Domestic and Industrial wastewater in Ado-Odo Ota LGA, Ogun State, Nigeria

    Wastewater from industrial and domestic sources flows into major bodies of water where people drink and bathe, resulting in a high incidence of severe water-borne infections. This study aims to compare the microbiological and physicochemical parameters of domestic and industrial wastewater in Ado-Odo LGA, Ogun State, Nigeria. Microorganisms were isolated from collected wastewater samples and were phenotypically identified using standard microbiological methods. Antimicrobial Sensitivity testing was carried out using Kirby Bauer`s disk diffusion technique. The physicochemical analysis of the water samples was also determined using standard analytical methods. A total of nineteen microorganisms were isolated from the samples collected with the predominant organism isolated from the two sources being Escherichia coli. The microorganisms isolated from the industrial wastewater sample were Citrobacter freundii (37.5%), Escherichia coli  (37.5%), and Proteus vulgaris (25.0%) while those isolated from the domestic wastewater sample were Klebsiella oxytoca (18.18%), Escherichia coli (45.45%), Proteus vulgaris (9.09%), Staphylococcus saprophyticus (9.09%) and Staphylococcus aureus (18.18%). The physicochemical analysis conducted indicated that there were lower levels of impurities in industrial wastewater pH (4.1 ± 0.14), Electrical conductivity (479 ± 1.41), Total Dissolved Solids (223.5 ± 3.53), and Chloride content (168.12) compared to the domestic wastewater with pH (8.05 ± 0.07), Electrical Conductivity (1928± 4.24), Total Dissolved Solids (765.5 ± 0.70) and Chloride content (238.224) which suggests that industrial wastewater has been subjected to series of chemical and biological processes. The presence of Escherichia coli in higher levels in domestic wastewater indicates fecal contamination which is a major public health challenge since this wastewater leaks into various water bodies
