    Superconductivity-induced Phonon Renormalization on NaFe1x_{1-x}Cox_{x}As

    We report a study of the lattice dynamics in superconducting NaFeAs (Tc = 8 K) and doped NaFe0.97Co0.03As (Tc = 20 K) using Raman light scattering. Five of the six phonon modes expected from group theory are observed. In contrast with results obtained on iso-structural and iso-electronic LiFeAs, anomalous broadening of Eg(As) and A1g(Na) modes upon cooling is observed in both samples. In addition, in the Co-doped sample, a superconductivity-induced renormalization of the frequency and linewidth of the B1g(Fe) vibration is observed. This renormalization can not be understood within a single band and simple multi-band approaches. A theoretical model that includes the effects of SDW correlations along with sign-changing s-wave pairing state and interband scattering has been developed to explain the observed behavior of the B1g(Fe) mode.Comment: 10 pages; 6 figure

    Infrared Hall conductivity of Na0.7_{0.7}CoO2_2

    We report infrared Hall conductivity σxy(ω)\sigma_{xy}(\omega) of Na0.7_{0.7}CoO2_2 thin films determined from Faraday rotation angle θF\theta_{F} measurements. σxy(ω)\sigma_{xy}(\omega) exhibits two types of hole conduction, Drude and incoherent carriers. The coherent Drude carrier shows a large renormalized mass and Fermi liquid-like behavior of Hall scattering rate, γHaT2\gamma_{H} \sim aT^{2}. The spectral weight is suppressed and disappears at T = 120K. The incoherent carrier response is centered at mid-IR frequency and shifts to lower energy with increasing T. Infrared Hall constant is positive and almost independent of temperature in sharp contrast with the dc-Hall constant.Comment: 5 Pages, 5 Figures.     Effective potential for composite operators and for an auxiliary scalar field in a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model

    We derive the effective potentials for composite operators in a Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model at zero and finite temperature and show that in each case they are equivalent to the corresponding effective potentials based on an auxiliary scalar field. The both effective potentials could lead to the same possible spontaneous breaking and restoration of symmetries including chiral symmetry if the momentum cutoff in the loop integrals is large enough, and can be transformed to each other when the Schwinger-Dyson (SD) equation of the dynamical fermion mass from the fermion-antifermion vacuum (or thermal) condensates is used. The results also generally indicate that two effective potentials with the same single order parameter but rather different mathematical expressions can still be considered physically equivalent if the SD equation corresponding to the extreme value conditions of the two potentials have the same form.Comment: 7 pages, no figur

    Uji laboratorium dan lapangan dengan IGR Triflumuron (OMS-2015) terhadap larva nyamuk Aedes aegypti telah dilakukan di Jakarta. Uji laboratorium dilakukan dengan 6 variasi dosis, yaitu 0,004; 0,011; 0,034; 0,10; 0,33 dan 1,0 ppm Triflumuron terhadap perkembangan larva nyamuk Ae. aegypti di dalam tempayan. Dari uji laboratorium dapat diketahui bahwa Triflumuron dengan dosis 0,004 ppm dapat menekan perkembangan pupa untuk menjadi dewasa dalam waktu 2 minggu, sedangkan dosis 0,10 ppm menekan padat populasi nyamuk Ae. aegypti selama 4 minggu dan dosis 1,0 ppm menekan padat populasi nyamuk Ae. aegypti selama 8 minggu. Uji lapangan dengan menggunakan Triflumuron di daerah pelabuhan Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, seluas 27 hektar dengan dua kali perlakuan, dengan dosis 0,042 dan 0,075 ppm, terjadi penurunan populasi nyamuk Ae. aegypti dewasa dan indeks pupa menjadi 0 dalam 4 hari setelah perlakuan. Penurunan populasi nyamuk Ae. aegypti dewasa terlihat setelah 2 minggu se­sudah perlakuan dengan tidak berhasilnya larva/pupa menjadi nyamuk dewasa

    Sebuah percobaan penanggulangan pinjal Xenopsyll cheopis dari tikus Rattus rattus diardii dilaku­kan di Ciloto dari bulan Februari sampai Nopember 1978. Racun serangga yang digunakan 50 % mala-thion wdp, 40 % fenitrothion wdp dan 75 % DDT wdp. dicampur dengan serbuk bedak sehingga ter­dapat 5 % zat racun aktif (active ingredient). Percobaan dilakukan pada 3 dusun. Pengamatan dilakukan dari bulan Februari sampai Nopember 1978 di daerah percobaan dan daerah kontrol DDT 5 % tidak effektif untuk pemberantasan pinjal, malathion 5 % effektif sampai 15 minggu dan Fenitrothion 5 % sampai 19 minggu sesudah perlakuan pertama. Ketiga racun serangga juga effektif untuk tungau dan kutu, tapi tidak demikian untuk tungau dewasa mesostigmatik (mesostigmatic mites)

    Nambu-Goldstone Mechanism in Real-Time Thermal Field Theory

    In a one-generation fermion condensate scheme of electroweak symmetry breaking, it is proven based on Schwinger-Dyson equation in the real-time thermal field theory in the fermion bubble diagram approximation that, at finite temperature TT below the symmetry restoration temperature TcT_c, a massive Higgs boson and three massless Nambu-Goldstone bosons could emerge from the spontaneous breaking of electroweak group SUL(2)×UY(1)UQ(1)SU_L(2)\times U_Y(1) \to U_Q(1) if the two fermion flavors in the one generation are mass-degenerate, thus Goldstone Theorem is rigorously valid in this case. However, if the two fermion flavors have unequal masses, owing to "thermal flactuation", the Goldstone Theorem will be true only approximately for a very large momentum cut-off Λ\Lambda in zero temperature fermion loop or for low energy scales.     Development of an animal-component free insect medium for the Baculovirus Expression Vector System (BEVS)

    Insect cells derived from Spodoptera frugiperda have been widely used with the baculovirus expression vector system (BEVS) for the production of recombinant proteins and adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) due to their ease of culture, scalability in high cell density suspension cultures, and high protein expression levels. Traditionally, insect cells are cultured in an undefined medium containing yeast hydrolysate and cod liver oil, however, there is an increasing push to use chemically defined, animal-component free medium to minimize any potential contaminants and decrease lot-to-lot variability while maintaining high cell growth and production. In this case study, an animal-component free insect medium was developed utilizing Rational Culture Media DesignTM and evaluated with Sf9 cells. Using a traditional formulation as a starting point, the final medium was developed by optimizing multiple nutrient groups in the basal medium, replacing the animal-derived components, and screening several yeast hydrolysate sources. By utilizing multifactor design of experiment software, various nutrient groups were screened including amino acids, vitamins, and metals. The metals group was identified to have the most impact on cell growth and productivity, and therefore concentrations of metal components were further optimized. In addition, the animal-derived components in the starting formulation, cod liver oil and cholesterol, were replaced with animal-component free fatty acids and synthetic cholesterol, respectively. The concentrations of these components were optimized to achieve better growth performance and production while also sustaining formulation stability and streamlining manufacturing processes. Finally, yeast hydrolysate is a well-known, undefined component that is crucial for insect cell growth and productivity. To minimize lot-to-lot variability, the yeast hydrolysate concentration was significantly lowered, and multiple yeast hydrolysate sources and lots were evaluated to determine the highest quality source. As a result, an animal-component free insect medium was developed that had improved growth performance and comparable productivity to a widely used commercially available animal-derived medium

    Identifying cell class specific losses from serially generated electroretinogram components

    Purpose. Processing of information through the cellular layers of the retina occurs in a serial manner. In the electroretinogram (ERG), this complicates interpretation of inner retinal changes as dysfunction may arise from “upstream” neurons or may indicate a direct loss to that neural generator. We propose an approach that addresses this issue by defining ERG gain relationships. Methods. Regression analyses between two serial ERG parameters in a control cohort of rats are used to define gain relationships. These gains are then applied to two models of retinal disease. Results. The to gain is unity whereas the to and to gains are greater than unity, indicating “amplification” (). Timing relationships show amplification between to and compression for to and to , (). Application of these gains to -3-deficiency indicates that all timing changes are downstream of photoreceptor changes, but a direct pSTR amplitude loss occurs (). Application to diabetes indicates widespread inner retinal dysfunction which cannot be attributed to outer retinal changes (). Conclusions. This simple approach aids in the interpretation of inner retinal ERG changes by taking into account gain characteristics found between successive ERG components of normal animals
