Mechanical Properties of Coronary Veins
There are several publications available and experiments were done regarding to the vessel biomechanical properties. In the range we could find in vitro and in vivo assessments data for elasticity properties. Even though we have many results in this topic we still don’t have enough data for special veins. Three coronary veins were investigated from pig’s heart. The aim of these experiments was to define and measure the longitudinal tensile stress and tensile strength of coronary veins. The tensile tests were done successfully and the tensile stress was defined in the range of 1.66-2.57 MPa
Preszinaptikus moduláció megfigyelése 2-foton képalkotással = 2-photon imaging of presynaptic modulation
Ennek a megoldásán jelenleg is dolgozunk. Az axon varikozitásokból történő mérések nem tartoznak a legegyszerűbb 2-foton mikroszkópos kísérletek közé, az ebből születő eredmények nemzetközi szinten is újdonságnak számítanak. A biztosan mérhető posztszinaptikus hatás vizsgálata azért is fontos, mert a technikai újdonságot jelentő 2-foton mikroszkópiának folyamatosan új ismereteket kell szolgáltatnia, hogy jelentős befektetés kutatási szempontból sikeresnek bizonyuljon. | In the first year of the OTKA support we made the setup and fine-tuning of experimental design to optimally image structure and function. First, we studied the pharmacological modulation of dendritic spine motility. Next we investigated the calcium dynamics of dendrites and spines of pyramidal neurons and interneurons. Because of the technical difficulties, we could reach only smaller sample size for the imaging of axonal varicosities (dye loading in fine process). The safe and reliable measurement of postsynaptic effects in spines and dendrites is extremely important as the 2-photon studies, representing a technical breakthrough for the neuroscience, must provide new information to be a beneficial and reasonable investment
Coloring Points with Respect to Squares
We consider the problem of 2-coloring geometric hypergraphs. Specifically, we show that there is a constant m such that any finite set of points in the plane (Formula presented.) can be 2-colored such that every axis-parallel square that contains at least m points from (Formula presented.) contains points of both colors. Our proof is constructive, that is, it provides a polynomial-time algorithm for obtaining such a 2-coloring. By affine transformations this result immediately applies also when considering 2-coloring points with respect to homothets of a fixed parallelogram
Növényi jellegek és alkalmazásuk növényökológiai kutatásokban I.: Történeti áttekintés, jelleg típusok, módszertan és adatbázisok = Plant functional traits and their application in ecological research I.: History, traits, methodologies and databases
Abstract: The importance of studies based on plant functional traits is indicated by the huge number of
papers (more than 5000) published in the last 15 years in this topic. In community ecology the recent
trend of studying organisms on the functional- rather than on the taxonomic level is quite significant. In
this review we attempted to summarise the applicability of functional plant traits commonly used in
ecological studies. We discussed the levels of functional categorisation, described the different plant
strategies based on functional traits and emphasised the usage of standardised measurements. The
most outstanding trait databases are introduced here, showing their availability, content and
specialities. This review is intended as an introduction to the topic and can later be completed by
papers elaborating on how plant functional traits are used in theoretical and applied plant ecology.

Összefoglalás: A növényi funkcionális jellegek kutatásának aktualitását mi sem jelzi jobban, mint az a
több mint 5000 publikáció, mely az utóbbi 15 évben megjelent a témában. A közösségi ökológia
számára ma már nélkülözhetetlen a fajok szintjén túlmutató funkcionális csoportok alkalmazása, ahol a
növényeket taxonómiai minőségük helyett funkcionális jellegeik alapján vizsgálják. Jelen dolgozatban
bemutatjuk a növényökológiában leggyakrabban alkalmazott növényi jellegeket, típusaikat valamint az
általuk meghatározott növényi stratégiákat. Szót ejtünk a jellegek egységes mérésének módszertanáról,
illetve bemutatjuk a legfontosabb jellegadatbázisokat, és azok alkalmazási lehetőségeit. Jelen
dolgozatot a téma bevezetésének szánjuk, amit később olyan írások követhetnek, amelyek részletesen
foglalkoznak a funkcionális jellegek gyakorlatban történő alkalmazásának lehetőségeivel.

Non-perturbative effects and the resummed Higgs transverse momentum distribution at the LHC
We investigate the form of the non-perturbative parameterization in both the
impact parameter (b) space and transverse momentum (p_T) space resummation
formalisms for the transverse momentum distribution of single massive bosons
produced at hadron colliders. We propose to analyse data on Upsilon
hadroproduction as a means of studying the non-perturbative contribution in
processes with two gluons in the initial state. We also discuss the theoretical
errors on the resummed Higgs transverse momentum distribution at the LHC
arising from the non-perturbative contribution.Comment: 22 pages, 10 figure
Guaranteed Non-Asymptotic Confidence Ellipsoids for FIR Systems
Recently, a new finite-sample system identification
algorithm, called Sign-Perturbed Sums (SPS), was introduced in [2]. SPS constructs finite-sample confidence regions that are centered around the least squares estimate, and are guaranteed to contain the true system parameters with a user-chosen exact probability for any finite number of data points. The main assumption of SPS is that the noise terms are independent and symmetrically distributed about zero, but they do not have to be stationary, nor do their variances and distributions have to be known. Although it is easy to determine if a particular parameter belongs to the confidence region, it is not easy to describe the boundary of the region, and hence to compactly represent the exact confidence region. In this paper we show that an ellipsoidal outer-approximation of the SPS confidence
region can be found by solving a convex optimization problem, and we illustrate the properties of the SPS region and the ellipsoidal outer-approximation in simulation examples
Triangle percolation in mean field random graphs -- with PDE
We apply a PDE-based method to deduce the critical time and the size of the
giant component of the ``triangle percolation'' on the Erd\H{o}s-R\'enyi random
graph process investigated by Palla, Der\'enyi and VicsekComment: Summary of the changes made: We have changed a remark about k-clique
percolation in the first paragraph. Two new paragraphs are inserted after
equation (4.4) with two applications of the equation. We have changed the
names of some variables in our formula
