This document is a result of discussions that took place during the workshop. It describes current state of research and development (R&D) in the areas of structural actuation and adaptation in the context of smart structures and advanced sensors (SS&AS), and provides an outlook to guide future R&D efforts to develop technologies needed to build SS&AS. The discussions took place among the members of the Structural Actuation and Adaptation Working Group, as well as in general sessions including all four working groups. Participants included members of academia, industry, and government from the US and Europe, and representatives from China, Japan, and Korea

Testing Performance Benchmark for Shaking Tables and Reaction Walls Within the NEFOREEE Project

    No full text
Within the NEFOREEE project, a one-storey one-bay steel frame model was tested at different shaking tables and pseudodynamic (PsD) facilities within the EU. The same specified unidirectional input was introduced in real time at the shaking tables or pseudodynamically at the other facilities. The specimens used at both kinds of facilities had the same characteristics and size (3m of length and height by 2.7m of width, with a rigid mass of 8250 kg) and were tested for several retrofitting configurations by means of added dissipator devices. However, at one of the facilities, real-time PsD tests were conducted by using only a part of the physical model thanks to the substructuring techniques. This paper presents the current stage of these studies including results of the performed tests in both kinds of facilities. The main results in the developments of the real-time PsD method with substructuring are also reported.JRC.G.5-European laboratory for structural assessmen
