    Managing Knowledge in Aircraft Engineering

    In this paper, the authors analyse knowledge management (KM) practices in civil aviation industry and introduce a framework for better management of knowledge in aircraft engineering (AE). After comprehensive review of KM literature, this paper offers insights into the existing KM practices in AE using a case study in the Saudi Arabian Aviation industry (SAAI). The KM research data was collected through discussions and interviews as well as through observations during one of the authorĂ¢s employment as aircraft engineer in the SAAI. Synthesis of these results with the KM literature was used to identify the gaps between the KM theory and current practices in AE. Finally, an operationsbased knowledge management (OBKM) system framework was developed to address these gaps and overcome ineffectiveness in current practices

    This paper is about knowledge management (KM) in Aircraft Engineering (AE). This industry is highly technology dependant; thus, enhanced KM in AE is a key success factor. This paper analyses KM literature, and offers insights into the existing KM practices in AE using a case study in the Saudi Arabian Aviation industry (SAAI). The KM practices were ascertained by interviewing senior aircraft engineers as well as through observations during one of the author's 6-year employment as aircraft engineer in the SAAI. Synthesis of these results with the KM literature identified gaps between the KM theory and current practices in AE. Finally, an operations-based knowledge management (OBKM) system framework was developed to address these gaps and overcome ineffectiveness in current practices

    Using video data in project management research

    In project management research, on site engagement is acknowledged as being good practice for gaining primary data and understanding the context of the projects being studied. However, it is not possible for researchers to be on site for every project they intend to research because projects can be difficult to access, or may be secret during the execution phase, or simply may have been completed a long time ago. Reading the project documents will provide a substantial amount of information, but there is always more to any project than written data alone, as project practitioners are well aware. Advances in technology since the beginning of the 20 th century enable the filming of project works and perhaps the main benefit of that filming is to document the process for documentary production. Since the camera can capture a wealth of detail and rich complexity that it is impossible or very difficult to capture by other means, and since the eye and ear can acquire a great deal of information that it is practically impossible to write down simultaneously, can the use of such video data be beneficial in project management research? This paper reports the experience of the authors in using video data in such research. More than 250 hours of video data have been examined in researching British aviation projects during the period of the Second World War. In this study, the authors reviewed the project success literature and provided a framework for defining and evaluating project success. The framework consists of four levels that contain the possible criteria for assessing and evaluating success. The authors demonstrate the framework by case application.     Risk-based framework for SLA violation abatement from the cloud service provider's perspective

    © The British Computer Society 2018. The constant increase in the growth of the cloud market creates new challenges for cloud service providers. One such challenge is the need to avoid possible service level agreement (SLA) violations and their consequences through good SLA management. Researchers have proposed various frameworks and have made significant advances in managing SLAs from the perspective of both cloud users and providers. However, none of these approaches guides the service provider on the necessary steps to take for SLA violation abatement; that is, the prediction of possible SLA violations, the process to follow when the system identifies the threat of SLA violation, and the recommended action to take to avoid SLA violation. In this paper, we approach this process of SLA violation detection and abatement from a risk management perspective. We propose a Risk Management-based Framework for SLA violation abatement (RMF-SLA) following the formation of an SLA which comprises SLA monitoring, violation prediction and decision recommendation. Through experiments, we validate and demonstrate the suitability of the proposed framework for assisting cloud providers to minimize possible service violations and penalties

    Program Ipteks bagi Wilayah (IbW) di Kecamatan Nusa Penida, Kabupaten Klungkung tahun 2012 ditujukan untuk memberdayakan potensi yang ada di masyarakat. Sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat, pemberian bantuan Iptek dari Perguruan Tinggi, dukungan Pemda, serta peran partisipasi masyarakat menjadi hal yang sangat penting. Bidang-bidang yang menjadi fokus perhatian dalam program ini adalah bidang pendidikan, pertanian-peternakan, industri rumahan, infrastruktur, dan lingkungan hidup. Desa lokasi program IbW Nusa Penida adalah Desa Suana, Desa Batukandik, dan Desa Sakti. Program ini dilaksanakan melalui metode/model: Partisipatory Rural Apprasial (PRA), Enthrepreneurship Capasity Building (ECB), Technology Transfer (TT), dan Information Technology (IT), dalam berbagai bentuk kegiatan seperti pendidikan dan pelatihan (diklat), pembinaan dan pendampingan, penyuluhan, percontohan (demplot), dan penghijauan. Adapun hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah; (1) meningkatnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam bidang komputer bagi staf desa, kecamatan, dan guru-guru SD; (2) meningkatnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan bagi anggota kelompok Sari Gading bidang pembuatan VCO; (3) membuat demplot biogas bagi petani; (4) meningkatkan keterampiran proses pembelajaran bagi bagi guru-guru PAUD; (5) meningkatnya keterampilan masyarakat sesuai minatnya sambil mereka belajar membaca dan berhitung; (6) meningkatkan keterampilan membuat media pembelajaran IPA berbasis lokal; (7) meningkatkan kualitas batako dan dampak lingkungan; (8) meningkatnya pengetahuan masyarakat tentang cara pembibitan dan menanam pohon penghijauan sekitar 2.000 pohon jati dan karet setiap desa; (9) pengembangan budidaya jarak kepyar bekerjasama dengan Kimia Farma yang melibatkan sekitar 400 petani
