The Structure of Long Tubular Bones Fractures of Lower Extremity by the Data of the Regional Bureau of Forensic-medical Examination.

The main purpose of the research is carrying out forensic-medical analysis of cases from expert's practice with fractures of the long bones based on the findings of the Regional Bureau of Forensic-Medical Examination over 2009-2012 years period. The research has been carried out using methods of statistical and comparative analysis. Their distribution by gender, age, localization, character and type of external influence, the conditions of their occurrence and participation of other persons has been outlined. Fractures of lower extremity bones make up from 15,8 to 22,5% of all the cases of mechanical trauma with lethal outcomes. Therewith male persons suffer more often from injury of the left extremity at different day time and season. The principal mechanism of their origin is injury resulting from road accidents in the countryside with the participation of other persons

A survey of the opinions of recent veterinary graduates and employers regarding early career business skills

    No full text
A questionnaire was designed to assess recent veterinary graduates' proficiency in early career business skills, from the perspectives of graduates of 2006–2008 and employers of recent graduates in the UK. Recent graduates perceived themselves to be generally more competent in financial matters than employers considered them to be. However, when specific skills were assessed, graduates felt less prepared than employers considered them to be competent. Overall, graduates and employers rated recent graduates' preparedness/competence as poor to average for all skills, which were regarded as having average to high importance. Both groups commented on the difficulties faced by new graduates in terms of client communication (generally and financially), and having the confidence to charge clients appropriately for veterinary services. The results of this study indicate that veterinary schools need to take a more active role in the teaching of basic finance skills in order to equip graduates with essential early career competencies. It is anticipated that the information reported will help inform undergraduate curriculum development and highlight the need for increased training at the continuing education level

On the Feasibilities of Using the Wavelet Analysis of Mueller Matrix Images of Biological Crystals

    Get PDF
The efficiency of using the statistical and fractal analyses for distributions of wavelet coefficients for Mueller matrix images of biological crystal networks inherent to human tissues is theoretically grounded in this work. The authors found interrelations between statistical moments and power spectra for distributions of wavelet coefficients as well as orientation-phase changes in networks of biological crystals. Also determined are the criteria for statistical and fractal diagnostics of changes in the birefringent structure of biological crystal network, which corresponds to pathological changes in tissues

The problem devoted to determination of prescription of death coming (PDC) takes one of the leading places in practice of an expert of forensic medicine. Improvement and elaboration of express methods that enable objectivity and precisely determine the prescription of death coming are urgent at modern stage of development of forensic medical science. There was no universal and effective method till now which might satisfy legal investigating agencies in decision of the given question in full measure. Forensic medical experts in day-to-day practice orientate themselves mainly to dynamics of the development of early and late changes of cadavers, however this evaluation is rather subjective and mostly depends upon the level of practical skills of a specialist, as well as the type, cause of death and specific characteristics of its coming. We suggest a new approach in the decision of this task – establishment of the totality of differential criteria for objective determination of the prescription of death coming according to a complex of polarizable, matrix, statistical and correlative parameters of laser images of biological tissues of different morphological structure and media of the human body.Hour’ range to determine prescription of death coming from 1 to 140 hours and exactness of determination – 1.5 hours has been established as a result of investigation, carried out by us, taking the muscular tissue as an example. Thus, the elaborated diagnostic method supplements the existing methods to define the prescription of death coming and enables to get objective demonstrable basis for legal investigating agencies. Taking into consideration efficacy of laser polarimetry we consider broadening of the range of the investigated tissues and studying possibility of investigation of fluids and media of the body for elaboration of the new methods of diagnostics of port-mortem and life time processes in a human body to be expedient.

Management of primary cicatricial alopecias: Options for treatment

    No full text
Primary cicatricial alopecias (PCAs) are a poorly understood group of disorders that result in permanent hair loss. Clinically, they are characterized not only by permanent loss of hair shafts but also of visible follicular ostia along with other visible changes in skin surface morphology, while their histopathological hallmark usually (although not always) is the replacement of follicular structures with scar-like fibrous tissue. As hair follicle neogenesis in adult human scalp skin is not yet a readily available treatment option for patients with cicatricial alopecias, the aim of treatment, currently, remains to reduce symptoms and to slow or stop PCA progression, namely the scarring process. Early treatment is the key to minimizing the extent of permanent alopecia. However, inconsistent terminology, poorly defined clinical end-points and a lack of good quality clinical trials have long made management of these conditions very challenging. As one important step towards improving the management of this under-investigated and under-serviced group of dermatoses, the current review presents evidence-based guidance for treatment, with identification of the strength of evidence, and a brief overview of clinical features of each condition. Wherever only insufficient evidence-based advice on PCA management can be given at present, this is indicated so as to highlight important gaps in our clinical knowledge that call for concerted efforts to close these in the near future.</p
