Socio-technical transitions towards environmental sustainability through green ICT
We adopt the broad conceptualisation of Green Information Communication Technology (ICT) used by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), incorporating perspectives on Information Technology (IT) and Information Systems (IS) which has currency with both business practitioners and policy makers. The objective of our research is to develop a theory of the institutional mechanisms that underpin socio-technical transitions to environmental sustainability through the direct, indirect and systematic effects of Green ICT in and across organisational fields. We construct our theory by drawing on published research in several disciplines focusing on the organisational field of the ICT industry. We present a mechanism-based theoretical model that explains how institutional change in organisational fields can evoke appropriate socio-technical transitions and organisational responses to Green ICT. Systems researchers agree that Green ICT can help lower GHG emissions directly, through energy efficiencies and indirectly by enabling environmentally sustainable business processes. If this research is to be of theoretical or practical relevance it must recognize that government organizations and business enterprises may not adopt policies and strategies on Green ICT because it is rational or moral to do so rather, a web of social, and institutional mechanisms interact to produce the outcomes observed in practice

Spin Dependent Tunneling in FM|semiconductor|FM structures
Here we show that ordinary band structure codes can be used to understand the
mechanisms of coherent spin-injection at interfaces between ferromagnets and
semiconductors. This approach allows the screening of different material
combinations for properties useful for obtaining high tunneling
magnetoresistance (TMR). We used the Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Code (VASP) to
calculate the wave function character of each band in periodic epitaxial
Fe(100)|GaAs(100) and Fe(100)|ZnSe(100) structures. It is shown that Fe wave
functions of different symmetry near Fermi energy decay differently in the GaAs

Complementarities and differences in adoption: an application of hazard models to two technologies in Madagascar
This paper explores the adoption of two agricultural technologies, how their patterns of adoption differ, and the relationship between them. The first technology, the System of Rice Intensification, has been studied previously and high rates of disadoption were observed in some areas. The second technology is off-season cropping, the practice of growing crops (primarily potatoes) in the rice fields during the winter season after the rice harvest. The rates of adoption of off-season cropping were much higher than for SRI and very little disadoption was observed. Through this study we are trying to understand the factors that might explain the differences in adoption and how the adoption of and experience with one technology affects the likelihood of adoption of the other. Our analysis uses hazard models, which have only recently been applied to technology adoption. Findings suggest that both methods increase the likelihood of adopting the other, and off-season crop adopters were less likely to disadopt SRI. Liquidity constraints appear to be more of an obstacle to SRI adoption, suggesting that this might help explain the relative success of off-season cropping.technology adoption, hazard models, Food Security and Poverty, International Development,

Color poster with text and images.In Green Bay, Wisconsin, foreign language in the elementary schools or FLES programs are offered in French, German and Spanish. An influx of Mexican and Central American immigrants to the Midwest has launched Spanish into common usage in the Green Bay business community. This study surveyed students and teachers of Spanish in grades 3-12 at public schools in Green Bay.
