On the accuracy of conservation of adiabatic invariants in slow-fast systems
Let the adiabatic invariant of action variable in slow-fast Hamiltonian
system with two degrees of freedom have two limiting values along the
trajectories as time tends to infinity. The difference of two limits is
exponentially small in analytic systems. An iso-energetic reduction and
canonical transformations are applied to transform the slow-fast systems to
form of systems depending on slowly varying parameters in a complexified phase
space. On the basis of this method an estimate for the accuracy of conservation
of adiabatic invariant is given for such systems.Comment: 27 pages, 14 figure
Gravitational Constraint Combinations Generate a Lie Algebra
We find a first--order partial differential equation whose solutions are all
ultralocal scalar combinations of gravitational constraints with Abelian
Poisson brackets between themselves. This is a generalisation of the Kucha\v{r}
idea of finding alternative constraints for canonical gravity. The new scalars
may be used in place of the hamiltonian constraint of general relativity and,
together with the usual momentum constraints, replace the Dirac algebra for
pure gravity with a true Lie algebra: the semidirect product of the Abelian
algebra of the new constraint combinations with the algebra of spatial

Radiation from elementary sources in a uniaxial wire medium
We investigate the radiation properties of two types of elementary sources
embedded in a uniaxial wire medium: a short dipole parallel to the wires and a
lumped voltage source connected across a gap in a generic metallic wire. It is
demonstrated that the radiation pattern of these elementary sources have quite
anomalous and unusual properties. Specifically, the radiation pattern of a
short vertical dipole resembles that of an isotropic radiator close to the
effective plasma frequency of the wire medium, whereas the radiation from the
lumped voltage generator is characterized by an infinite directivity and a
non-diffractive far-field distribution.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
Rethinking the Properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma at
We argue that although at asymptotically high temperatures the QGP in bulk
behaves as a gas of weakly interacting quasiparticles (modulo long-range
magnetism), at temperatures up to few times the critical temperature it
displays different properties. If the running of the QCD coupling constant
continues in the Coulomb phase till the screening length scale, it reaches the
strong coupling treshold . As a result, the Coulomb phase
supports weakly bound Coulombic s-wave , light quark and even
states.
The existence of shallow bound states dramatically increases the
quasiparticle rescattering at low energies, reducing the viscosity and thereby
explaining why heavy ion collisions at RHIC exhibit robust collective
phenomena. In conformal gauge theories at finite temperature the Coulomb
binding persists further in the strong coupling regime, as found for SUSY YM in the Maldacena regime.Comment: v2 version have one more figure and one more reference, v3 is the

Two-proton events in the 17F(p,2p)16O reaction
In a recent experimental study (Gomez del Campo et al, PRL 86, 43 (2001)) of
the reaction 17F(p,2p)16O, two-proton events were measured from excitations
near a 1-, E*=6.15 MeV state in 18Ne. We calculate by means of R-matrix theory
the resonant two-proton production cross section and branching ratios. We
conclude that it is unlikely that two-proton production via population of the
1- state is sufficient to explain the observed two-proton events. Alternative

Multi-wavelength INTEGRAL NEtwork (MINE) observations of the microquasar GRS 1915+105
We present the international collaboration MINE (Multi-lambda Integral
NEtwork) aimed at conducting multi-wavelength observations of X-ray binaries
and microquasars simultaneously with the INTEGRAL gamma-ray satellite. We will
focus on the 2003 March-April campaign of observations of the peculiar
microquasar GRS 1915+105 gathering radio, IR and X-ray data. The source was
observed 3 times in the plateau state, before and after a major radio and X-ray
flare. It showed strong steady optically thick radio emission corresponding to
powerful compact jets resolved in the radio images, bright near-infrared
emission, a strong QPO at 2.5 Hz in the X-rays and a power law dominated
spectrum without cutoff in the 3-300 keV range. We compare the different
observations, their multi-wavelength light curves, including JEM-X, ISGRI and
SPI, and the parameters deduced from fitting the spectra obtained with these

Simultaneous multi-wavelength observations of microquasars (the MINE collaboration)
We present the international collaboration MINE (Multi-lambda INTEGRAL
NEtwork) aimed at conducting multi-wavelength observations of microquasars
simultaneously with the INTEGRAL satellite. The first results on GRS 1915+105
are encouraging and those to come should help us to understand the physics of
