B-R Colors of Globular Clusters in NGC 6166 (A2199)
We have analysed new R-band photometry of globular clusters in NGC 6166, the
cD galaxy in the cooling flow cluster A2199. In combination with the earlier B
photometry of Pritchet \& Harris (1990), we obtain BR colours for 40
globular clusters in NGC 6166. The mean BR is 1.26 0.11, corresponding
to a mean [Fe/H] = 1 0.4. Given that NGC 6166 is one of the most
luminous cD galaxies studied to date, our result implies significant scatter in
the relationship between mean cluster [Fe/H] and parent galaxy luminosity. We
obtain a globular cluster specific frequency of S 9, with a possible
range between 5 and 18. This value is inconsistent with the value of S
4 determined earlier by Pritchet \& Harris (1990) from B-band
photometry, and we discuss possible reasons for the discrepancy. Finally, we
reassess whether or not cooling flows are an important mechanism for forming
globular clusters in gE/cD galaxies.Comment: 8 pages, uuencoded, gzipped tar file with latex file, 6 figures (Fig

Experimental studies on the impact properties of water ice
Experimental studies on the impact of ice particles at very low velocity were continued. These measurements have applications in the dynamics of Saturn's rings. Initially data were obtained on the coefficient of restitution for ice spheres of one radius of curvature. The type of measurements were expanded to include restitution data for balls with a variety of surfaces as well as sticking forces between ice particles. Significant improvements were made to this experiment, the most important being the construction of a new apparatus. The new apparatus consists of a smaller version of the disk pendulum and a stainless steel, double-walled cryostat. The apparatus has proved to be a significant improvement over the old one. Measurements can now be made at temperatures near 90 K, comparable to the temperature of the environment of Saturn's rings, and with much greater temperature stability. It was found that a roughened contact surface or the presence of frost can cause a much larger change in the restitution measure than the geometrical effect of the radius of curvature

Iron Oxide Grains in Stardust Track 121 Grains as Evidence of Comet Wild 2 Hydrothermal Alteration
Stardust Track 121 terminal grains contain Fe-oxide. These are consistent with the presence of hydrothermal alteration on the Comet Wild 2 parent body

UV-Vis spectroscopy of stardust
NASA's Stardust mission flew through the coma of comet Wild 2 in January 2004, capturing dust grains as it did so. The grains were returned safely to Earth in January 2006, and are in the process of being distributed to investigators. As members of the Spectroscopy Preliminary Examination Team, we are preparing to analyse Stardust grains. Our contribution is to measure the spectrum of the grains between 200 nm (in the near ultraviolet) and 800 nm (near infrared). The purpose of the measurement is to provide an additional technique for characterizing the grains, one that is complementary to other spectroscopic techniques and one that produces results that can be matched directly with spectra acquired remotely (with telescope or spacecraft instrumentation). As part of the preparation for analysis of Stardust materials, we are producing a database of spectra from appropriate minerals, and are honing the technique through analysis of primitive meteorites

Characterisation of Float Rocks at Ireson Hill, Gale Crater
Float rocks discovered by surface missions on Mars have given unique insights into the sedimentary, diagenetic and igneous processes that have operated throughout the planets history. In addition, Gale sedimentary rocks, both float and in situ, record a combination of source compositions and diagenetic overprints. We examine a group of float rocks that were identified by the Mars Science Laboratory missions Curiosity rover at the Ireson Hill site, circa. sol 1600 using ChemCam LIBS, APXS and images from the MastCam, Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) and ChemCam Remote Micro-Imager (RMI) cameras. Geochemical data provided by the APXS and ChemCam instruments allow us to compare the compositions of these rocks to known rock types from Gale crater, as well as elsewhere on Mars. Ireson Hill is a 15 m long butte in the Murray formation with a dark cap-ping unit with chemical and stratigraphic consistency with the Stimson formation. A total of 6 float rocks have been studied on the butte

Seasonal Aeration Rates for the Eastern United States Based on Long-Term Weather Patterns
Most aeration fans are sized to produce a minimum airflow rate of 0.1 m3/min/t (0.1 cfm/bu) in on-farm grain storage structures. At this airflow rate a significant amount of time is required to move a cooling front completely through a bin. The desired grain temperature and prevailing weather conditions will have a significant effect on required fan size. Thirty years of weather data were analyzed for the eastern United States to determine the amount of time available in temperature windows between 0 to 15.C and 0 to 17.C. Contour maps were generated with ArcMap 8.3 for the percentage of each month within the given temperature windows. A substantial amount of time (over 4% of the month) is available within temperature limits of 0 and 17.C between September and April. This indicates that airflow rates of at least 0.6 m3/min/t (0.5 cfm/bu) would be more adequate to completely move an aeration front through a bin for summer harvested grain in Southern regions of the United States. However, during July and August only the northern half of the United States would have a sufficient amount of time available for cooling grain below 17.C using an airflow rate of 0.1 m3/min/t (0.1 cfm/bu). The maps generated provide a starting point for sizing aeration fans in the eastern United States
