    INFORMATION VALUE IN WEED MANAGEMENT

    Get PDF
Use of the economic threshold to improve the efficiency of preemergent-herbicide treatment decisions is limited by a lack of weed information. An economic model for assessing the expected value of weed information needed to implement a threshold decision rule is developed. Empirical results suggest that early season weed information can have value in cabbage weed management in Massachusetts.Crop Production/Industries,

Small Quadrupole Deformation for the Dipole Bands in 112In

High spin states in 112^{112}In were investigated using 100^{100}Mo(16^{16}O, p3n) reaction at 80 MeV. The excited level have been observed up to 5.6 MeV excitation energy and spin āˆ¼\sim 20ā„\hbar with the level scheme showing three dipole bands. The polarization and lifetime measurements were carried out for the dipole bands. Tilted axis cranking model calculations were performed for different quasi-particle configurations of this doubly odd nucleus. Comparison of the calculations of the model with the B(M1) transition strengths of the positive and negative parity bands firmly established their configurations.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures, 2 table

Finite to infinite steady state solutions, bifurcations of an integro-differential equation

    Get PDF
We consider a bistable integral equation which governs the stationary solutions of a convolution model of solid--solid phase transitions on a circle. We study the bifurcations of the set of the stationary solutions as the diffusion coefficient is varied to examine the transition from an infinite number of steady states to three for the continuum limit of the semi--discretised system. We show how the symmetry of the problem is responsible for the generation and stabilisation of equilibria and comment on the puzzling connection between continuity and stability that exists in this problem

Hydraulics of Flow and Sediment Transport in the Kankakee River in Illinois

    Get PDF
The hydraulics of flow and sediment transport in the Kankakee River in Illinois were investigated in a 2-year study. The progression of river channelization in Indiana and the behavior of the river in the straightened portion in Indiana and the nonstraightened portion in Illinois were reviewed. Historical data regarding peak, average, and low flows for six gaging stations were analyzed to identify trends. Both deposition and scour occurred at various places on the main stem of the river in Illinois between 1968 and 1978. Median diameters of bed materials of the river ranged from 0.2 to 0.4 mm. Extensive suspended sediment, bed load, and water discharge data were collected and analyzed, and regression equations were developed between water discharge and suspended sediment discharge. For about 60 to 80 days during storm events, the river carries about 80 percent of the yearly sediment load. A number of active sand bars were surveyed. One sand bar near the state line appears to be forming and crossing the state line once a year. A hydrographic map of the Six Mile Pool was developed. A number of preventive and remedial measures to reduce sediment load are outlined in the report.publishedpeer reviewedOpe

Magnetic Modulation in Mechanical Alloyed Cr1.4fe0.6o3 Oxide

    Get PDF
We have synthesized Cr1.4Fe0.6O3 compound through mechanical alloying of Cr2O3 and Fe2O3 powders and subsequent thermal annealing. The XRD spectrum, SEM picture and microanalysis of EDAX spectrum have been used to understand the structural evolution in the alloyed compound. The alloyed samples are matching to rhombohedral structure with R3C space group. The observation of a modulated magnetic order confirmed a systematic diffusion of Fe atoms into the Cr sites of lattice structure. A field induced magnetic behaviour is seen in the field dependence of magnetization data of the annealed samples. The behaviour is significantly different from the mechanical alloyed samples. The experimental results provided the indications of considering the present material as a potential candidate for opto-electronic applications.Comment: 8 figure
